Hi Guys and Girls,

I’m currently looking at how to make the match day experience better for you at football matches, what have been some of your favourite experiences (e.g. certain atmospheres, special moments like being a mascot, etc), what is important to you and what is not important to you.

If you could spare a few minutes to help me out and complete the following survey, then I’d be hugely grateful! And of course, you're more than welcome to discuss any ideas here on this thread, and I'll post the results if anyone's interested!

Even just taking 1 minute to power through the multiple choices is very helpful!

Thanks!

I'm a Wednesday fan and I personally hate bands at football games, it feels too rehearsed.

Bring back the early 90s.

Standing terraces, less sanitisation, less televise football, more 3pm kick offs on a Saturday, the FA Cup meaning summat, traditional atmospheres. We finished 3rd in the Country

+1 to this, though the FA Cup hasn't diminished in my opinion - though maybe that has something to do with our progress in recent years.

The other week I stopped by the Tilehurst Road (where our old ground once stood) for the first time in about ten years. It was sad, not least the shabby council estate that now stands there, but the memories that we'll never relive. I remember being a 14 year old kid, being bought drinks in a packed Spread Eagle and bowling into the ground five minutes before kick-off. I remember mixing with good lads who were well known and had their own place on the terraces - got caught up in some serious shit, but that's another story; that sort of stuff is rarely seen nowadays. It just had a different feel to it all.

Going to a game knowing you didn't have to buy in advance to stand with your mates.

I used to stand on our cavernous Kop, I then spent a few years sat on there before growing tired of listening to the monotone parping and tooting of that god forsaken band.

Was down there myself the other week. Area around where the ground was has hardly changed. Part of me still wishes we still played at Elm Park. Tearracing and none of the pre game bollocks we have at the Mad Stad. Was also closer to town and Reading West station so you could actually drink in town and it was only a short walk to Elm Park.

Definitely. We used to stand near someone we only knew as 'Whitley Steve' - every week he would turn up seconds before kick-off, barge past everyone and take the same spot on the terrace. Nobody would bat an eyelid. A few years back we saw him at Wembley, he remembered us and we didn't pay for a drink all day - he even joined us out in London for the evening! :cool1:

It's characters like Steve, born on the terraces, that are missed I think.

You're not wrong mate!

I remember Cardiff and Milwall certainly enjoying the short walk from Reading West up the Oxford Road....

Terracing yes, but only in areas where home and away fans have to mix, fans need to learn not to be dickheads to each other.

But sadly for us older folk, Christ I'm only 35, the new modern stadia seem to be revered by all, the generic bland designs, the generic food places, the extra leg room, the frowns you get for singing, having women and kids look at you in disgust when you shout an obscenity to someone.

Meh

I'd have terracing anyway. Fans still hold a weird tribal mentality and no amount of forced amalgamation will stop it.

Elm Park - the only ground in the country where I got six types of shit kicked out of me.

Memories eh?

MK weren't formed when Reading last played at Elm Park, which club had you adopted back then?

I was a season ticket holder at Brentford (my great-uncle was on the board) and went to all games, home and away, until I moved from Ascot in 1981. Reading away was always a difficult game as the majority of my mates supported them so I occasionally went in the home stands for a laugh.

A big mistake on one occasion.

Effort and Heart of the team and Match Result (predictably) the most important aspects from the results so far! Cheers all who've done the survey - much appreciated.

Everything comes to an end eventually, we are giving them the reason at the moment. Zero police at football games and zero segregation and 90% of all the bollocks would stop in two weekends.

Fuck me, dont get me goin' we'll be here all neyt.

For a start, Instantly ban (for life) any goon singing those awful generic chants that have crept their way into the game. Usually sung by young lads with perms....

Allez allez oh
Everywhere we go
Just can't get enough
Oooooh....nananana.....ooooh ooooh ooooh (or summat like that)

Dat int footy. Get stood on, benders.

On chants there seems to have been a mass rise in tunes to what I can only imagine is 'achy breaky heart' if it was song slightly incorrectly.

Feel for you. Elm Park was pretty hostile at times, not nearly as bad as Ninian Park in the 90s. Would like to see the young Stone Island and baseball cap lads give it big outside there. You needed your wits about you then, the police let you get on with it and you certainly wouldn't have raised your voice.

I'm not sure about said group as I don't get down for many games nowadays, just a generalisation, but I can probably picture them.
