I think the stat that he's misrepresenting is the one about Jewish people being over-represented in the slave trade compared to whites. No idea if it's true though.

I think the reason that the "plight of black slaves " is given more profile than the Barbary slave trade is probably because the former still has a relevance in terms of racial politics and relationships whilst the latter isn't really relevant to our current situation. As you say Europe has recovered well.

The fact that the victims of the Barbary slave trade and the Eastern slave trade were worked/raped to death rather than bred as a stock of slaves probably has more to do with it I think. There is no one left alive to claim victimhood the way African Americans can. We also have a weird Eurocentric view in the West in which we are the cause or reason behind everything. That's probably why we still think that the Second World War started when Germany invaded Poland, or how we kinda blank out the countless Muslim invasions of Europe and focus on the Crusades, even though they're dwarfed by the sheer scale of the former.
