Is that the proposal dead in the water now then? Barnet fans can finally relax!

I still don’t understand the issue when frankly there are two promotion spots there (assuming Dover have to be relegated)

All that will happen now is NL again has an odd number of teams and Dover will probably start on -30 to -40 points which wastes them for two seasons in row (because if NL do nothing others will stop playing soon when nowt to play for)

Think Dover might appeal to be demoted than start on a huge minus number!

The National South is running with 21 teams, so relegating/demoting Dover would even things up number wise.

It would seem to be the easy out for everyone - providing no-one else in the NL gives up before the end of the season

Your chairman must be spewing - 2022 is now out of the window.
I’m sure he’ll be alright when he wakes up in his multi million pound house and goes for a drive in his Bentley

''Alex at Gloucester did explain in detail what the promotion competition was, and you can see why even an open minded committee would throw it out. Rather than everyone start of 0 points, which really is the only way to do any sort of league, it was to start with a sort of 'handicap' points system, whereby they looked at PPG from games played so far, and then allocated a 'starting points' level for each club. But even that didn't really work because the gaps between top (Dorking) and bottom (Welling?) were too great, so then they tweaked it so that Welling were 6 points off 7th place for the start. It just sounded too complicated and contrived to me. No footballing league has ever started like that to my knowledge.''

When this was the plan for this mini league its no surprise the FA didn't agree to it.

Well that's a complete joke. Or they could have just taken into account the actual number of points gained head-to-head between the teams in the league so far.

I was looking forward to the NL board giving small teams like Dorking etc extra points to start than the 'big' teams like York

A little behind with this but I'm assuming there's no relegation from the NL this season, just a decision to be made on any potential Dover point deductions?

Yes, that was confirmed a couple of weeks ago. Dover more likely to be demoted than points deducted though.

I reckon a big points deduction, they should be thrown out but this is the national league. If they get deducted points say anything above 15 they will be relegated next season anyway leaving the owner an easy decision to not have to fund another season. Either way a horrible year or so to come for their fans, at least they have a club I guess.

The problem with a deduction is that it means everyone who hasn't played Dover would have to be given 3 points. Unless they plan on expunging Dover's record anyway.

I don’t really see what they can do other than expunging their record, in relation to the 15 games they already played at least. As for demotion or points deduction, I reckon it will be the latter, which will likely be an effective demotion anyway, just postponed for a year.

Stockport County.
They should be demoted. They've been a shambles this year. Other clubs have managed to muddle their way through and did the best with the money they received at the start of the season.

There are 21 teams in the South , 22 in the North and 23 teams in the NL. It makes sense to put Dover in the South next season and make it all even up. We've lost two teams the last two seasons because Bury and Macc have never been replaced in the pyramid.

If Dover are so fucked financially, they won't be able to compete next year either? The smart money says if they get a reprieve, they will suddenly be competitive again.

Send them down to keep King's Lynn, Wealdstone, Woking etc honest until the close of the season's play.
