I'd bin the Euros off completely. What's the point of playing it in 12 different cities during a pandemic? Cut your losses and fuck it off till 2024.

League football below the Championship to be suspended after this weekend is my guess. With dispensation allowed for the 20 L1 or below sides still in the FA Cup subject to COVID testing. Cannot see the league continuing without interruption. League One is absolutely riddled as it is.

Yep, seven League One games off tomorrow, won’t be long till the Football League’s hand is forced on this one. Probably in line with full England lockdown that the media are now sowing the seeds for.

But then the Championship and League Two don’t seem to be as affected .. yet.

UEFA will have to change the Euros to one country only .

Talk of SAGE wanting a tier 5 lockdown which apparently closes schools; takeaways and thus imagine sports.

Can see January being written off both in football and general life terms and resume in February when a few million of the most vulnerable have been vaccinated.

You know now the Prem have had a postponement everyone will get excited despite the fact it’s been the norm in the EFL since the start.

League One is riddled now, not sure how League Two has survived so far with few P-Ps, possibly due to most clubs being outside the areas where the new strain is most rampant with it being more Northerly and S Western this year.

Pretty sure we will go into tier 3 Wednesday, so suspect tomorrow will be the last game I see in the flesh for a while.

i feel most posters are correct. The media stories are not being made up by journos, rather they are being given these lines to prepare us for another lock down. Despite what Gove is saying, the thing that is worrying me is the numbers that seem linked to schools. Think an enforced winter break is not far off.

How many League 1 & 2 players will be in the Euros, so if need be and possible carry on during June.

They can put any tiers in, have any amount of lockdowns they like, but if they don’t shut the schools and universities it’ll all be pointless.

Problem is, if you shut the schools parents can no longer work (ie pay tax). That’s why they’re reluctant to do it, not because little Johnny might not get a GCSE in algebra like they like to make out.

This has been fucked up so monumentally from the start that it now looks like vaccines are the only glimmer of hope of a return to any kind of normality.

Can’t see tier 5 not allowing live sport, you can’t postpone some areas but have the rest of the league carry on, depending on location.

Either it’ll all be off or we will all crack on some how.

I really fail to see how a stoppage will be of benefit unless they extend the season though.

Probably will have to happen though, perhaps with late / early / weird kick off times to avoid clashes, especially if fans are allowed back in by then. It’s not as if many of us will be losing players to call ups.

My off the cuff theory with little foundation is that the quick fire games is causing covid to spread between teams as players are contagious in matches without time for symptoms to show.
I would agree on the quantity of games causing the increased likelihood of the spread but if UEFA want all domestic competition to be finished before the Euro’s that’s what will happen and I can see the season being curtailed just like last season

NHS beds will dictate above all, as it did in March. It’s never the actual deaths or infections. The Tories would be happier if covid killed within a couple of days of being infected, rather than linger for 4+ weeks for those that need hospital care. The NHS at absolute capacity is the absolute nightmare scenario and an extremely scary thought. They have blatantly playing a balancing act with it all year and so if the trend of inpatients continue to increase, which it will as we are not going to see the effects of Christmas social mixing for a couple of weeks, then a full lockdown inclusive of schools being shut is inevitable in order to stem hospital admissions. The media making an issue of schools today suggests a announcement is brewing.

I’ve just seen the figures for hospital admissions on the BBC, they’re higher than they were in the spring.

We could end up with a cancelled and annulled season as its too early for projected points per game.

Full lockdown is coming you just know it.
Possibly announced Wednesday.

Shops also need to shut. Trafford Centre turning people away, and you know everyone was out for the sales. Is ikea really an essential trip?
No social distancing at all.
Get your point about schools, but I have a 9 year old daughter and if she is at home my wife is not earning as she has to be at home with her.

They probably want to do that but parents and teachers then complain you are messing with kids education and social life/mental health so the Government cannot win .

Still can’t understand why masks aren’t mandatory outside your own home. We’ve had to mask up here for months - and a curfew between 9pm and 5am. And that’s despite having the lowest infection rate in Greece - 69 cases since the whole entire shitstorm started.

At work we have recently had 2 confirmed Covid-19 cases. These are my first 2 staff in the building testing positive despite the office continuing to work 24/7.
We had 5 people self isolating as a result due to the definition of close contact but they came back with negative tests.
It shows that with the correct Covid secure protocols in place we can stop this whilst continuing some sort of business as usual.

If the EFL were to penalise teams that aren't able to fulfil their fixtures then maybe more clubs would take their responsibilities more seriously.

How are you, Karl?

How do you explain the outbreak at Man City, then?

IMO there is no way that this populist government will stop Football again. They need compliance when the inevitable lockdown comes, and Football on the tele will keep a chunk of the population relatively happy and sane.

A ‘Football firebreak’ that coincides with the lockdown is IMO the only thing that MAY happen. Shut it down for 2 weeks whilst the whole of the country is in lockdown, drive down the infection rate within Football and then crack on. Whilst the country is in lockdown the rates within Football will drop like a stone, so BCD will be fine just like towards the end of lockdown 1.

For those talking of a firebreak right now in football, without a lockdown it’s completely pointless. Footballers would still be getting infected in their day to day lives, and once squads got back together they would just infect each other again.

My prediction. Nationwide lockdown very soon, Football to carry on BCD.

Danny the logic of your Frankfort School approach, that entertainment is a bauble to keep the masses occupied and happy, suggests that one solution open to the Government is to give all squads, refs, coaches and key staff the vaccine. Not sure how popular this would be if they are ahead of key workers and other sports’ stars.

Rumours on social media that the Prem is going to be halted after this round of fixtures.

I thought I made it fairly clear (clearly not clear enough) that I was passing opinion on what this populist (populist not a term of endearment) government would do.

The only part of my post that I believe is there is zero point in a Football circuit breaker without a full national lockdown (which there clearly will be).
