It's all very interesting...

Current Table:
1. Bristol PL: 37 P: 73
2. Barnet PL: 36 P: 71
3. Grimsby PL: 36 P: 65
4. Macc PL: 35 P: 64
5. FGR PL: 37 P: 62
6. Eastleigh PL: 34 P: 57
7. Halifax PL: 32 P: 55
8. Woking PL: 35 P: 53
9. Kiddy PL: 36 P: 52
10. Gateshead PL: 32 P: 50
11. Chester PL: 35 P: 49

Probably safe enough to assume Bristol, Barnet and Macclesfield will have a play-off place. They'd have to have a pretty severe dip in form to drop out of the play-offs and it doesn't, at the moment, look likely.

Grimsby may be eyeing a top three finish but they should also be looking over their shoulders. A drop in form could easily see them slide out of the play-offs and with their next four games being Braintree H (a difficult side to break down), Woking A (play-off chasers), Chester A (tough place to go, outside hopes of play-offs, aiming for top 10 finish) and Eastleigh H (play-off chasers) they really need to be 'at it'. A decent return from those four, seven points, should be enough to keep confidence high and their position.
They do, however, have some 'easier' games - Welling A, Alfreton A, Southport A, Aldershot H. Whilst on paper they should be looking for a return of nine points from these games, those teams are fighting for their lives and the three away games have 'potential banana skin' written in bold on them. It could, though, be that Southport (penultimate game) and Aldershot (final game) are both safe by the time those fixtures come around.

FGR will be cursing their three-point deduction ahead of a difficult run-in. They still have to visit Barnet, Woking, Lincoln, Chester and Gateshead whilst welcoming Southport, Braintree, Aldershot, Macclesfield and Dover to The New Lawn. With Eastleigh five points behind with three games in hand and Halifax on the same point total with five games to spare, there is no room for error. Two key players in Wedgbury and Norwood both came off injured on Tuesday vs Wrexham, bad news indeed.

Eastleigh's remaining fixtures are the pick of the bunch, for the wrong reasons. They're next eight games are horrific - Macclesfield H, Bristol A, Kiddy A, Barnet H, Wrexham H, Grimsby A, Gateshead A, Dover H. This is then followed by Welling A, Alfreton H, Lincoln A and Kiddy H. Somewhere in there, as well, they have to travel to Halifax. The good news for them is that they will feel that it is in their hands and rightly so. Whilst I'm sure they'd have wanted some more favourable fixtures at least they don't have to rely on others.

Halifax, like Eastleigh, have their play-off hopes in their hands. What they don't have in their hands is a decent pitch or control of the weather. They have 15 games left to play so it'll be interesting to see how the part-timers get on playing Saturday - Tuesday (and maybe even Thursdays) most weeks. They're run-in isn't great - Macclesfield H, Lincoln A, Barnet A, Torquay H and Woking A. They also have to add two home fixtures, Eastleigh and Barnet, into their list. Good luck, like.

Kidderminster, despite seemingly selling every player they have, are still in with a shot at sneaking into 5th place. They're eight points off the play-offs with a game in hand however, they're recent form is less than convincing. They've only scored three goals in their last eight games - winning two, drawing two and losing four. Halifax H, Alfreton A, Eastleigh H and Dover H await them. Anything less than six points will probably see them drop out of the top 10. Kidderminster's run-in isn't convincing either - Bristol H, Welling A, Barnet H and Eastleigh A. Ground-sharing with Worcester has taken it's toll on the pitch which won't help matters.

Woking's Christmas period has put their play-off hopes seriously at doubt following a highly promising start. They've won once in their last ten but have seen some promising performances that resulted in draws away at Eastleigh, Gateshead and Kidderminster (2nd half) and at home to Bristol. It is, though, now or never. A defeat away at Lincoln could extinguish all hope if other results also don't go their way. The hope that lies with Woking is that their remaining fixtures could be much worse and in the past two season they have put together a late run of wins. Lincoln A, Dartford A, Grimsby H and Telford A are their next four games, all certainly winnable. FGR, Gateshead and Halifax are also yet to visit Kingfield. The Cards will need to rely on slip-ups from FGR and Eastleigh but their is still hope.

Gateshead have gone about their business pretty quietly this season but also pretty poorly. I'm sure Gary Mills will have wanted to be much closer/in the top five by this time. Like Halifax, they have 15 games still to play which could cause them problems. They have trips to Dover, Halifax, Grimsby, Woking and Barnet to look forward to and also home games against Bristol, Macclesfield, Eastleigh and FGR. It's not over for them at all and they'll take confidence from winning three of their last four. Bristol H, Wrexham H, Braintree A and Welling H will provide tough tests in the coming weeks.

Outsiders:
Chester
- Won four of their last five.

Three more wins should make absolutely sure of top five.

It would be more than just a severe dip in form if we were to miss out on the play offs from this position.

Ours as you say is all a case of managing the players for the fixtures and still being fresh for the play offs (if we get there).

We ran out of steam in the play offs last year and that was without fixture congestion! We've got a bigger squad this year so just got to see how it goes...

First step, 3 points at Kiddy on Saturday

We could have a sweepstake on here for the next Town home game to be held at the Shay. You could choose any week right up to the first July friendlies. Our other problem is struggling against the better teams in this league, and obviously to stand any chance given our final 7+ games we'll need to pull summat out in that regard.

Good wins for FGR, Eastleigh and Woking today. Kidderminster's draw with Halifax means Woking move up to 8th.

Think it's between us, Fax, Gateshead, Eastleigh and FGR for the final play-off place (with us being the outsiders of course). Halifax would be 11 points ahead for us if they win their games in hand and atm I think it's just too big an ask. All we can do now is hit a run like we did this time last year and hope that other results go our way. Next 5 games are Dartford, Grimsby, Telford, FGR and Chester. Need at least 10 to stay in the hunt.

Same here mate, we've hit a brick wall since February arrived now at home and as well as away.
No goals and no wins, terrible month.

Just when it looked like we might put on a run, we've lost (probably deserved a point). Halifax and Gateshead both slipped up as well but Eastleigh and FGR both got massive wins and Eastleigh are now 5 points ahead of us with 2 games in hand. It's the hope that gets you :(

As I said in the match thread a side that only gets one win in 15 games against sides in the top 10 is never going to make the play-offs

I don't think that's the reason. We're only in this position because IT'S THE WORST CONFERENCE PREMIER FOR YEARS. Anyway, aren't we mid-table yet like everyone said we would be? :fl::woo:

Aha well what i did, after i finished work at 2 yesterday i had my private jet waiting to take me to Woking, arrived just before kick off but due to a stroke of bad fortune i got something in my eye and couldn't see any of the game, so don't ask me what happened as i will be unable to tell you! (and my twitter is down) ;)
I hope you believe me, i mean, why would i lie, what is my motive.....!? ;) :fl:

Are there many games where the Top 4 have to play each other left?

I have just looked at the teams likely to be in contention for direct promotion or the play-offs, and the games where they play each other, and come up with the following fixtures:

Bristol R - Macc (H) and Hal (A)
Barnet - East (A), Hal (H + A) and Gates (H)
Grimsby - East (H) and Gates (H)
Macclesfield - Bris (H), FGR (A), Hal (A) and Gates (A)
FGR - Macc (H) and Gates (A)
Eastleigh - Barn (H), Grim (A), Hal (A) and Gates (A)
Halifax - Bris (H), Barn (H + A), Macc (H), East (H) and Gates (H)
Gateshead - Barn (A), Grim (A), Macc (H), FGR (H), East (H) and Hal (A)

I think that is right, it shows that there is still a lot to play for and the likes of Halifax and Gateshead must be considered serious contenders for the play-offs, if they can get a good run together. It will have to involve taking points from fellow challengers, which will only enhance their chances, for Halifax home form will be the key factor. I haven't included Woking, which won't please some, but they still have home games against FGR, Halifax and Gateshead, so may still feature. They would probably need to win the majority of their remaining games and hope the teams mentioned above manage to neutralise each other.

It's almost in Grimsby's hands now. If they hold their nerve, I can see them taking the title.

Ahh the age old way of ensuring something doesn't happen, by suggesting that it will! ;)

Well we have a very kind run in, but as we all know those are the kind of games we tend to fuck up in so we shall see i suppose......

We're in trouble to be honest, tough fixtures coming up and we're bang out of form.

Eastleigh at home will be terrifying but if we can somehow win that and be even closer than we are now, I'd actually be disappointed if we don't at least go close.
