Well there's a relegation thread so thought i may as well start a playoff thread for the run in as it looks likely to go down to the wire. Cheltenham and Forest Green obviously aren't involved and barring a disastrous run of form Grimsby have probably got their spot already booked. So the teams involved:

4th. Braintree 61 points 35 games
5th. Tranmere 61 points 37 games
-------------------------------------------------------
6th. Dover 58 points 34 games
7th. Gateshead 58 points 36 games
8th. Wrexham 56 points 36 games
9th. Eastleigh 56 points 35 games
10th. Lincoln 55 points 36 games

This weeks matches:
Dover vs Tranmere
Eastleigh
vs Chester
Gateshead vs Forest Green
Macclesfield vs Lincoln
Wrexham
vs Boreham Wood

So a massive game at Dover, both teams would probably take a draw, as a defeat would be disastrous, especially for us with their games in hand. Would expect Eastleigh and Wrexham to pick up routine home wins whilst Gateshead and Lincoln have on paper the tougher looking fixtures.

Interesting few weeks ahead.

We won't make the play off's but it's just nice to be involved. Anything less than 4 points from Macc on Saturday and Dover on Tuesday and that's it for us.

But, as I said in another thread, we need 7 from the next 3 at least and we certainly can't lose to Dover on Tuesday.

Find it stunning how well Dover are doing this year, play-offs would be outstanding. Can't see them winning through though, any of the top 3 would have too much for them IMO.

Why is it stunning, their Chairman has spunked £3m on the team in the last few years, now he's had enough on crowds of a few hundred.
When he pulls the plug Dover will loose their highly paid players like Payne who many rate as the best striker in NL.

Haha, lol at the fact we're even in this thread, #topbantz.

4th and 5th to stay as they are.

Impossible to pick a winner from the upcoming Dover v Tranmere fixture based on our recent games against them both. Two strong teams.

Payne as in Stefan Payne? He has some attributes, but if he's the best down here then this league is shitter than I thought!

I might be biased but at the minute Padraig Amond is head and shoulders above any other striker in the NL. Not only for his goals but for his overall play over 90 minutes almost every game.

I think the games in hand are going to be the death of our playoff challenge. If we beat Dover we're in a slightly better position, but it's still out of our hands. Fingers crossed I'm wrong!

I hadn't realised this. I assumed they had a decent wedge though as a few of their players could easily play for 'bigger' full time teams.

Fairytale ruined

In the last few years being the last 11 years, and most of that money will have been spent on paying off the debts we had as a club. Could quite easily have not paid our creditors and started again as AFC Dover Athletic like most do. £3 million in 11 years really isn't a lot of money considering we've had developments at the ground, paid far too much for shit managers in the Ryman South and until recently had zero cup pedigree. We made a fair bit from our TV game vs Palace which I'm sure has helped but to say we're bankrolled is just incorrect.

Payne isn't even the best striker at Dover let alone the best striker in the league. Our wage budget is minuscule compared to most of the top half of this league, and in theory we're still part time FFS

Dover aren't even the most bankrolled Kent team in NL, when you consider Ebbsfleet and Maidstone just down the road.

Like I said £3m over 11 years is nothing. Just over £250k per year. Let's remember that Forest Green LOSE almost £3m every bloody year.

Ricky Modeste is a hero - class player and winds up oppo players and fans brilliantly. On the receiving end of some awful challenges though.

Even Margate are more bankrolled than us in terms of living beyond their means.

Count us out, we concede too many goals and have defenders injured and suspended every week.

Barring some miracle run by someone you could probably rule anyone including and below Gateshead out. Two of Braintree, Dover and Tranmere. It's certainly there for Braintree and Dover if they want it, they won't get a better chance than this year.

Not impossible for the rest of us but unlikely given how the rest of the season has panned out.

As an aside, assuming Braintree make the play-offs, would they be allowed to compete for promotion, given their ground can't be anywhere near FL standard?

Massive few days coming up for us. If we can take 4 points from Tranmere/Lincoln then I'm happy. Could potentially lose both, then it's season over. All still to play for down to Lincoln as far as I'm concerned

It won't be Eastleigh or Dover, neither have looked good enough in the last week that we've played them. If anyone is going to upset Braintree and Tranmere, I think it will be Wrexham. I haven't seen what Gateshead are like under Aspin, apart from when we beat them 5-1 at their place in the early days.

Gateshead are like Alfreton the other year who have managed to get a sniff of the PO's with a negative GD.

Insert joke about Alfreton here.

I was talking about that just last night with a friend. As you say, surely their ground can't be up to FL standard, or is it??
