Erm… I recognise it could be. Shane has undoubtedly added some star power and intrigue to the card, which is what it needed. The angle has got people talking and it's possible he was brought in simply and solely to have that effect. Perhaps there is no medium-to-long term plan.

But that's really shit. I'm not saying such booking is beneath them as it demonstrably isn't (we're talking about the same people responsible for the anonymous GM angle here) but I dunno… I guess I'm just struggling to accept they'd waste Shane's return on something so short-term. They didn't have to tease a takeover. They didn't have to use Shane in this way, especially not if the plan is to have him fuck off again.

Also, I don't think Shane not being advertised for post-WM shows tells us much, as that may be deliberate. It took them a while but I think WWE is now quite savvy to how little details like that show their hand and effectively function as spoilers. We'll see I guess.

You seem very sure Taker isn't loosing. Why?

More to do with the fact I don't suspect Shane is sticking around after Wrestlemania. But I also can't quite envisage Taker losing to Shane at WM unless it is a screwjob. I hope you're right and there is an intriguing angle but I don't have faith in WWE to pull it off.

They have been advertising shows after Wrestlemania as The Authority vs WWE or something haven't they? It was something along those lines anyway...

I been and done found the article I saw:

'A May 23rd RAW taping in Baltimore, Maryland is listed as “Monday Night RAW vs. WWE.” This is the taping directly after the May 22nd PPV, which was just changed to be Extreme Rules.'

Was the bit that I saw...

That would certainly shake things up a bit and add a bit more emphasis to Smackdown and hopefully NXT.

Ambrose Lesnar and the Cell match creates intrigue and will be entertaining matches. I can't call Ambrose Lesnar....the whole Ambrose coming close to the big moment only to have it taken from him is getting tiresome. But do they have the balls to put Ambrose over Brock??

I can't see Shane winning and as much as well it's been marketed, it is an act of desperation....unless Shane wins.

New Day vs League of Nations is the biggest load of Crap ever!! Love the New Day and they stick them with the most boring and irrelevant guys ever.

Kalisto Ryback....Smackdown match.

Usos Dudleyz....Raw match and wastes 2 great teams on the big stage.

Battle Royal....zzzzz. It's not prestigious and does sod all for the career of the winner.

Ladder match....yeah will have good spots.

Divas tag....why??? Just why??

Divas triple threat...should have been Sasha Vs Charlotte. I like Becky but don't think she anywhere near the level of the other 2.

Main event....if and huge if...Shane wins then Triple H retains. Interesting scenario with Triple H no longer COO but is champion. Roman though has had so much investment in him but it's not working at all. Surely he walks out as champ. No dq match...something unexpected has to happen.

Few wildcards...what is Rock gonna do? Seth rumoured to be fit again,.Cena is around. Last year's card looked underwhelming but it delivered...can they do the same with an even worse looking card?

New Day v LON isn't even a title match, it's ridiculous. New Day have been one of the best acts over the past year and should have a bigger match.

I assume nobody is watching Payback, what an awful looking card. But I wouldn't be surprised if it surprised

I'm watching. Blindly hoping for a Balor/Bullet club debut but there isn't an awful lot else to be excited about.

Not really sure how it's anything close to an awful looking card considering it's one of the minor PPVs.

Not a bad card at all tbf. Zayn v Owens should be great, looking forward to Sawft vs Vaudevillans and also the outcome of the main event. Roman will retain of course but how is the question.

We went from Banks, Charlotte and Lynch to Charlotte vs Natalya
Roman to go over Styles

Maybe I'm being pessimistic. I've only recently started watching again (since the rumble) so I'm a tad green on the new guys. Will the tag match be good then?

Do they normally have two matches on the pre-show?

Is that to free time up for some interference or for the Mcmahon segment

We can all dream it is Punk

The women's scene is puzzling cos Sasha got screwed at WM so in theory should have been top contender but I think they're saving her 'moment' for a bigger PPV like Summerslam and don't want her losing before then - same with Becky, she's lost enough too.

Zayn v Owens and Styles v Reigns should be good (especially with added shenanigans) - there's a McMahon segment. Miz/Cesaro should be solid - there's enough there for a good PPV. Especially when you compare it to Payback 2014 & 2015 which both had one good match each.

The matches were very good. Especially the Women's match, AJ Reigns and Owens (stole the show)...

Bad things were that lonnnnng segment, the shitty finish for the womens match (Bret looking totally bored) and obviously Enzo's bad injury...

solid PPV all things considered.

Ryback v Kalisto was a good match
Tag Team match could have derailed the night seeing the concern for Enzo but fortunately Owens/Zayn got the crowd back with ease. Ambrose/Jericho was poor, the women's match was far too long and well below average, good finish in the Miz/Cesaro title match and then a great main event (ruined a little bit by the run-ins, the match really didn't need it).

I thought it was a very good PPV overall. Obviously Zayn/Owens was the highlight, and it only makes it that much more painful that they didn't swap around the whole US title and IC title pictures at WM, having Owens and Zayn go one on one there instead. Owens was the MVP of the entire show though, pretty much stealing the IC title match as well with great commentary.

As for the main event... besides the stop/start stuff with the countout and DQ it was fantastic, I thought. Yeah, Roman Reigns having yet another fantastic main event match shocker. Fuck it, I was booing as loud as anybody during Mania and all of the Raws I've been to as of late, but it's hard to deny that the guy is capable of great main events matches... in fact, his Mania main event with Triple H is the only time as of late I can remember him having a match anything less than great.
Bit disappointed with how it all ended up, though. Reigns had took numerous flying forearms, a beat down from Gallows and Anderson, and kicked out of it all. Styles took one spear and was beaten with it. Kind of came across that Reigns and Styles are on completely different levels in the end, which seems a bit damaging overall. I don't think anybody really expected Styles to win, and maybe WWE think that Styles being able to say that, technically, he won twice on the night (via countout and then DQ) is enough, but nah. I don't buy that.

Rumoured that there's going to be a 'Bash at the Beach' Network special in Hawaii featuring: Asuka vs Charlotte, Lesnar vs Owens, and Cena vs Nakamura.

That sounds bad-ass, Wrestlemania level matches.

A very odd ending to the US Title match. If Kalisto was genuinely hurt and they called an audible then bending him in half to finish the match was reckless. If it was just the booking of the match, why? It didn't lead to anything so its inclusion was pointless. I initially thought the ref was going to call for a DQ on Rusev, a decent way of extending the programme.

Hopefully they turn him into a complete loser like they were when he was constantly losing to Cena and others before he got injured. The timing of his return suggests he's being fed to Reigns, it's way to early for the title to be taken off him as they will want him to have a long, establishing reign (no pun intended).

Jericho took the "thumb tack spot", wow.

Great to see Rollins back - I'll start watching RAW again.

Before those tacks were introduced that match was seriously getting up there with one of the most boring gimmick matches I've seen. When Ambrose went to the top to jump of I just thought, don't bother Dean, it won't make the match any better. The tacks added a bit of tension and saved the match somewhat.

The problem with "extreme matches" is there's a huge element that's been taken away that we were conditioned to: headshots. I think we can agree it's for the best, health-wise, but seeing attacks to the body afterwards just feels lame.

Yeah - it all feels a little pointless in modern-day WWE. Still, occasionally you get an entertaining or genuinely shocking spot sneak through.
