Never expected us to be here. We have a large proportion of the Brotherhood to play away from home in the remainder of the season so plenty of tests of our metal to come. The key is not stringing defeats together. Whoever does that wins the league. So far this season we haven't lost 2 games in a row and hopefully we can keep that going.

Then again by the time we have finished at Grimsby we will have played 12 of our 21 games away from home. So plenty of points to be won infront of our home fans in the 2nd half of the season

8 points between top and 11th.So I am sure lots of clubs fancy there chances of promotion. We have played everyone in top 11 except BW. On what I have seen there is no outstanding team in the league who will run away with the title and the Play Offs will be a lottery

We’re reasonably handily placed if the last two years are anything to go by, have been extremely strong finishers both times but left ourselves 10+ points to make up. Just about stopped ourselves from doing that again, and we’ve also played a lot of the top teams away from home and are yet to face either King’s Lynn or Dover at all. Still feel our week of madness might end up costing us, particularly the six points we decided to torch against Halifax and Woking.

January is big for us, losing either Wootton or Rodrigues would be a big blow for our hopes.

We have to be favourites for the title given the peak form we are in.

I think you can safely exclude Halifax from this.

I'm guessing most sides are where they deserve to be, but have any of those had an easier first half of the season because of how the fixtures/Covid postponements?

It’s been a bit of a running joke that Chesterfield haven’t played anyone good yet, but think they’ve caught that up now with recent games.

Notts have probably had a ‘harder’ set of fixtures so far than anyone because a quirk of the fixture list and postponements mean we’ve not played either Dover or King’s Lynn at all yet, and everyone above us has played both of them.

Said at the start of the season we were the wildcard that nobody really had a clue about. 20 games in and having gone from the best team in the division to the worst, we're still none the wiser.

We've got Halifax and Borehamwood left to play for the first time out of that lot in Lee's opening post. We've beaten Wrexham and Yeovil, drawn with Stockport and lost to Chesterfield, Bromley, Soilihull, Notts and Daggers.

The last part of that last sentence is pretty damning and that combined with our current form have almost certainly put paid to any title hopes. Had we picked up points at playoff contender rate as opposed to rock bottom rate over the last 7 games then I'd have said we'd still be in with a shot at first place but you just have to look at the form and squads of Chesterfield, Stockport and Wrexham to suggest that this is perhaps going to end up as a two or three horse race. However, looking at things optimistically, yes we're on a horrible slump but as I've said a few times previously all of our defeats have been narrow and not a single team has outplayed us whereas we've shown that we have the quality do that to other teams. That's the nature of Hurstball though, when the chips are down it's about getting points on the board by being cautious so you're susceptible to single goal defeats.

Still wouldn't swap Hurst for any other manager in the division despite the last few months. His remit is a playoff spot and I fully expect him and our squad (with January reinforcements) to deliver that. We need to wise up and stop getting overran as a matter of urgency though, we look just like a team that thinks it can pass its way out of trouble right now. Win those midfield battles and get the ball in behind fullbacks and we'll start winning again.

I'm calling the top 7 as..

1) Stockport
2) Chesterfield
3) Halifax (providing they don't get plundered in Jan)
4) Wrexham
5) Bromley
6) Notts
7) Grimsby

I reckon we need to be 3 or 4 points clear after 40 games in order to possibly win it, Boreham Wood H, Chesterfield A, Wrexham A and Halifax H is an interesting last 4 games to say the least.

Yes. Chesterfield.
We’ve got to play each other twice still. Our first game was supposed to be next week but FA Cup has got in the way. Eastleigh are the other team we haven’t played yet.

Rusk ball means despite some handsome victories in recent weeks we’re still way off the pace goal difference wise.

Wrexham look like the team that’s going to significantly strengthen their squad and Chesterfield have players returning so they are the two threats to me. I don’t rate Boreham Wood or Bromley as title threats and well I think Halifax are a great team and Wild should be on for manager of the season they lack squad depth.

Highlights from our win against fellow promotion rivals Solihull for those who are interested:

Boreham Wood and Bromley are both capable of sticking with it IMO. They just need to beat the bottom half sides and make it difficult against the top ten, which they both do (bad Christmas for Bromley though).

We still haven’t sorted out our flakiness away against shit teams, but do have a useful tendency to go beserk in the spring and string together 6/7 wins in a row.

So who’s dropping out the race then Jacob or do you really believe it’s going to be at least seven teams battling it out for the title to the end?

All being as it is now, I think Chesterfield, Wrexham, Stockport, Halifax, Notts, Bromley, Boreham Wood are all good enough to keep up their current pace, which could well mean it is. I reckon one of Bromley or B Wood will drop off and one will stick with it, though - more likely the latter with their games in hand and a few quid from the FA Cup to spend in January.

I would also say Notts and Halifax both look vulnerable to losing key players in January, but if we can both get through that then I think you’ll see a top six start to emerge and an almighty scrap for seventh involving Bromley, Solihull, Dagenham, Grimsby, Yeovil etc.

Halifax are already promoted according to B2TF and as he is known for talking sense it’s time to just end this thread.

I think the big spenders with the squads will pull away this year. I know Sutton and Barrow both won but Wrexham, Stockport and Chesterfield aren't all going to slip up.
I think Challinor is like signing a 30 goal striker, he gives you a hell of a chance and James Rowe hasn't put a foot wrong so far.
I also rate Pete Wild but it's a slog of a season and I think squad depth if nothing else will stop them winning the league.
Wrexham are looking solid but I just don't think they'll finish above both Stockport and Chesterfield.
As for Notts, we've thrown points away, really should have more in the bag. I think it's 17pts dropped from winning positions so far. That's not good enough to be winning the league but we're still right in contention despite all that.
We haven't had a settled defence and keeper with one thing and another but with Patterson ( keeper) on loan for the rest of the season and Kyle Cameron playing very well, if we can keep Alex Lacey fit alongside him we should get more clean sheets that may make the difference turning draws into tight wins.
Owners have also sent out a statement today more or less confirming that we're not selling our best players in the window which helps too.

He's been posting in the League Two forum. It'll be hilarious when they fade down to 10th.

Table:

1. Chesterfield - P20 - 43 pts
2. Halifax - P21 - 41 pts
3. Wrexham - P22 - 39 pts
4. Boreham Wood - P19 - 39 pts
5. Dagenham - P22 - 38 pts
6. Notts - P20 - 38 pts
7. Bromley - P21 - 38 pts
8. Stockport - P20 - 36 pts
9. Solihull - P21 - 36 pts
10. Grimsby - P20 - 33 pts

PPG:

1. Chesterfield 2.15
2. Boreham Wood 2.05
3. Halifax 1.95
4. Notts 1.90
5. Bromley 1.81
6. Stockport 1.80
7. Wrexham 1.77
8. Dagenham 1.73
9. Solihull 1.71
10. Grimsby 1.65

Next weekend’s games:

Dover vs Notts
Torquay vs Dagenham
Halifax vs Eastleigh
Bromley vs Solihull

Relentless stuff tbf. Grimsby’s 1.65 PPG would ordinarily have you comfortably in the play-offs over a full season.

It's going to be redonk. It feels like 2pts per game isn't going to be enough to win you the league, which is just stupid. Very little room for error.
