Our local derby at sCUNThorpe on Saturday has been brought forward as well; 13:00 Kick-off, not even been brought forward by the police like normal!

The worlds gone mad.

Looks like the National League may still go ahead by virtue of the League taking on the loan then reducing central funding to effectively pay it back.

Seems grossly unfair on the two teams who get relegated this year who will effectively pay off the debt for the 2 promoted sides.

Our resident stat expect are worked out we have suffered 35 injuries so far this season, it's really not a surprise we're in such trouble

Sounds as though that option is off the table now too, but I can't see how it would have worked to be honest - the organisation taking on a debt is something that would affect all three of its member leagues, so if the two regional ones are against it then surely it can't be feasible.

''First they came for Chesterfield
and I didn't speak out because I wasn't a Chesterfield fan
then they came for Notts County
and I didn't speak out because I wasn't a Notts fan
Now they're coming for Bolton
and I'm not sure I like that
They're also coming for Grimsby
and I definitely do not like that so I better speak out''

I never thought I'd be saying this but is going back to the re-election years such a bad thing after all? Has the time come for a proper and thorough re-evaluation of the whole system?

Just think about it for a moment. There won't be any Hollywood celebs buying small NL clubs if the door is closed once and for all. IOW, there won't be any more NEW SALFORDS. Otherwise what's to stop Brad Pitt buying 'sleeping giant' Bwood because his nana once lived in the area when she was 17 years old?

Sorry but we should never go back to Re- Election. Sometimes you really need to get rid of the deadwood and that does'nt mean by bribing officials from other clubs which did happen in the past. Also sometimes going outof the league you can re-evaluate and come back as a better club with better players. So a big no from me going backwards.

Maybe we could go back and stop Cambridge getting elected? I mean let's be honest. They weren't even a national league side!

I could never support pulling up the drawbridge after we got in.

Yep that’s what happened to us, we got back into the league and have learned our lessons and gone from strength to strength. :bg:

I think I read somewhere that the majority of Harrogates league attendances in their promotion season attracted sub 1000 crowds. A line needs to be drawn somewhere I think.

I'm not a fan of re-election despite the pain of our 3 years in the NL. There does need to be some equivalent of salary capping in the NL to curb money-bags owned sides buying their way into the FL

A salary cap across the board so that clubs who build themselves up in a way that is sustainable eventually find their level is the way forward. Re-election is not the way to solve that. It caused a situation that led to stagnation in the lower divisions. I think a 3 up 3 down relegation/promotion system between League 2 and the National League with an agreed salary cap would be the right way to go. It would stop the hobby clubs.

They got into the EFL with financial help from their owner. When your club where playing in the UEFA Cup Harrogate Town were playing in the Northern Counties (East) League. They made their way to the Northern Premier League but stagnated. It was only when they got bankrolled by the managers father that they started their journey to the EFL. In a similar way that Bolton Wanderers spent money they did not have that led them to being a rival to Harrogate Town in the same division. The moral being live within your means or you will find life is going to show you reality.

Lets remember that there is no Red Bull club here yet. As long as we can stop that we still have a soul. If any club does get sold out to them it will be Salford City. They are the worst thing to ever happen to football in this country.

Sod that - we lost our league place to Hereford when we didn't even finish in the bottom 2....
and we are the only club to lose a re-election vote and get back into the league - and nobody is taking a share of that unique record off us (unless Southport or Workington get back - i'll allow that).I'd be quite happy for the NL to introduce a squad and salary cap to help stop the Salfords though.....

Some of our fans are ‘uncomfortable’ with staying up if the league below gets scrapped. As long as no team goes bust, bollocks to our pride, there’s no way I want to go back down there and any way out of it is good by me.

Why did you refer to the Isle of Wight in the middle there?

Yes ~~ we played them in 2010/11 and it was just a field with a wall around and their crowds were about 100.

I've always maintained it should remain at 1 up-1 down, but that is me being selfish, and also because I think it would reduce the number of hobby clubs in the National League and lower. When we got promoted in 1999, there was only Rushden who were blowing other teams out of the water financially (look what happened to them). It took them another two years to get up after us though, and that was only because Max Griggs was hellbent on getting up. How many of the others would have kept going had there been no playoffs? Would Vince have hung around at FGR as long as he has if he didn't get up eventually via the playoffs? (NOTE: This is just an example, he might well have done).

With that being said, I do like that the 2 down has shown the, so called, traditional league clubs that they can't just rest on their laurels anymore.
