Yeah both were given three year deals by Still (Smith actually has a clause for a fourth, not clear but the way it is worded sounds like he can trigger it).

http://www.lutontown.co.uk/news/art...bourenmouth-striker-josh-mcquoid-2511301.aspx

The McQuoid one always seemed a big risk given how his career was progressing. Smudger too really, a nice gesture as he had done fantastically well to come back from horror injury and be an important player for us, but three (potentially four) years for someone of his limited ability set and not exactly a youngster... odd.
Oh bloody hell Stilly.
Tobefairlike, McQuoid never shirked his responsibility and always gave 100%; I thought there was a player in there, but he just never got in any sort of rhythm or form.

Ours appears to have been "leaked" its not been confirmed by the club, but someone has filtered it round the internet. A few of these players may well end up here next season, so here we go:

Retained under contract:
Sam Dalby
Tristan Abrahams
Steven Alzate
Myles Judd
Josh Koroma
Henry Ochieng
Aron Pollock
Sam Sargeant
Michael Clark
Robbie Weir
Teddy Mezague
Yvan Erichot

Released on expiry of contract:
Nigel Atangana
Alex Cisak
Nicky Hunt - Apparently going to Notts County
Jens Janse
Callum Kennedy
Paul McCallum
Sammy Moore
Freddy Moncur
Ulrich Nnomo
Ollie Palmer

Released on activation of contractual relegation clause:
Liam Kelly
Tom Parkes
Gavin Massey
Jordan Bowery

All 4 will be good signings for any club at this level, Bowery did well at Crewe despite being awful for us.

Offered new contract:
Charlie Grainger
Sandro Semedo
Michael Collins - If he signs I will be amazed
Victor Adeboyajo (scholar offered pro)
Dan Happe (3rd year scholar)
Rian McLean (3rd year scholar)
Charley Barker (3rd year scholar)

Poor Robbie Weir, Teddy Mezeague and Yvan Erichot - The only senior players forced to stay!

Has Jordan Cook been really bad for Luton then?

Was among the most bang average footballers I've seen at league 1 level, surprised that he he hasn't been at least useful at this level.

One of the most anonymous, nothing type players I have had the misfortune of watching who typified the completely ineffectual midfield we had for the whole season.

It's not that he is necessarily bad per se just that he never actually DOES anything. He just sort of exists without any purpose you'd be forgiven for not actually noticing his very existence for the most part.

If im actually be fair to him, he was forced into playing in a diamond midfield which I don't think suited him but even when playing number 10 he was poor. If I ever have to see him take another fucking shit corner that hits the first man again I'll scream too

Basically it's not just that he is poor, but he also is the physical embodiment of all that was awful about our awful midfield this season.

Some decent footballers in that Orient released list. I'd take Parkes, Massey, McCallum

Good to see Miller still there.

Did Tomlinson even play?!

I think he came on for 15 minutes in a game we were losing, and he barely touched the ball.

Miller was great in his first season, not so much this season.

Tomlinson was awful for us. Never looked close to L2 standard. I saw him play for our reserves in a PSF against 9th tier Bedfont & Feltham and even in that game he was anonymous. Watching him for us it's hard to believe he scored a fair few goals at Conference level.

Ben Tomlinson was awful for us when we had him on loan in the conference too. Absolutely baffling that Hurst was picking him ahead of Amond and Bogle in some matches!

I only saw Tomlinson play for about 20 minutes, but in that 20 minutes I came to the conclusion that he isn't even a footballer. I've seen Sunday league players with more ability than him.

I'd be amazed if he's playing at or above conference north/south standard next season.

He did well here, about 40 goals in two seasons but his game was based on his work rate, which is never a good sign if you're wanting to move up the leagues. He played on the left of a front 3 here.

He had his chance in the FL with Macclesfield a few years back and I said at the time Barnet signed him that he was never an FL player. He wasn't someone who you'd see take players on, dribble past a player or really do much of anything. He was able to force mistakes out of defenders through his harrying and pick up scraps in the penalty area from set pieces - that's what he was good at.

Maybe Ellis and Brisley, not sure who else of that lot we'd transfer list.

Tomlinson no surprise, joins Hooper and Ward in being released among those brought in on short term contracts at the end of the season, none of whom made any impact. I imagined Crocombe might be going when we were linked with another keeper, especially as sub keepers are usually moved on at the end of their contracts anyway, and it's a shame for Brough but hopefully he'll kick on now at the level he's been playing at this season. I think Curle did the right thing in keeping him on to give him a chance as he does show potential but we're now at the point where he's probably not going to push on at this level.

Nabi's only appearance for us was away from home (Wycombe I think), and from the commentators description of him he sounded a real live-wire, skillful if unpredictable, and young so good to see we're going to see what we can do with him, even though most fans will no little to nothing of what he's like as a footballer.

Bailey, I have been very critical of as he has had some shockers at Brunton Park since signing. However it always seemed from listening to the radio that he performed better away from home, he had an improved game in the playoffs at BP and also down at Exeter so I think given that he has joined the squad late in the season, having been away from English football he's shown enough in those good performances to suggest he will be a decent player once he gets a summer under his belt.

Also, Junior Joachim, who is in France on family business and who Curle has yet to speak with. I imagine he would be released though, we had him on trial last summer and didn't offer him a contract then, only bringing him in a couple months ago when we were desperate for strikers, and he didn't really contribute anything, and Tomlinson and Waring were both ahead of him in the pecking order.

Not a huge clear-out all in all, hopefully we're able to get the players we've offered contracts to signed up and then add to the squad so we have more strength in depth next season to go the distance. I'd say we're already looking stronger in one of our key areas where injuries hurt us last year, in central midfield, where we had Jones and Joyce performing really well, but once Jones got injured it all went to shit and the back-up Penn clearly wasn't good enough. I'd say that now, having Jones, Joyce, Liddle and Bailey who can drop into those positions we should be fine. Just need to look in other areas to strengthen now... well in defence but I don't have much hope that anyone we sign could improve our defensive record by much. We could have Beckenbauer and Maldini at the back and would still probably ship two goals per game.

Jon Guthrie was released by us today with Doncaster, Cheltenham and Swindon allegedly chasing after his signature to the point he turned down a new deal with us...

Yeah this is an essential pre season thread where we will watch Crawley destroy half of Sussex and some Morecambe fan proclaim they will win the league on the back of a steam rolling of a Preston XI.

It's either that or we talk about Rakish Bingham or who Mansfield haven't signed

We have mutually terminated Paulo Tavares and Chris Mbamba's contracts thus saving us about 4k a week on wages! Mbamba played about 30 minutes I think!

Is that including the additional payment we get for Burnley staying up this season? All told we must have got quite a bit over £2m for him, not bad for a player who'd barely kicked a ball in the FL at the time and only had a year left to run on his deal. I don't think many would have anticipated him going on to be quite as successful as he has been in the top two levels when he left us.

Yep. £600,000 initial payment from Luton to Brentford. One payment of £300,000 and two of £400,000 for the following two seasons for his sell on clause. Plus £200,000 for staying in the Premier League.

Not bad for a player not as good as Liam Hearn and wouldn't be good enough for the Championship.

Josh Yorwerth has signed on for another year. Centre back who relishes the fight a bit too much but he is only 23 so he could come good.
We have offered Matt Harrold another year's contract. As he has been injured nearly all season (three separate injuries I think) he couldn't of expected much more.
We have also activated the option for Lewis Young.

Bobson Bawling, Conner Henderson and Jason Banton released. Banton has all the skills you'd ever want but seems to want to waste it. Henderson has a good touch etc. but the games just seems to pass him by. Bobson Bawling works really hard, is quick and is probably going to either terrorise the park players or come back to haunt us. If someone could teach him to cross/pass/control the ball he would be frightening at this level.

This means we have pretty much the same squad as this season. Which is good because we obviously did so well....Er.

We've finally released ours....

Released:
Bobby Olejnik
Tom McCready
Connor Riley-Lowe
Matt Oakley (retired)

Loans returned to their parent clubs
Jack Stacey
Luke Croll

Offered deals
Troy Archibald-Henville
Joel Grant
A few youngsters yet to make league apps.

Under contract
Everyone else, which is great news as it means we will be very strong going forward (unless Watkins or Wheeler get sold, but that would be for big money so win win).

Why oh fucking why he offered Troy A H a deal I don't know as he's made of crisps.

Shame about Olejnik but he's probably on a big wage and we have two other keepers so makes sense. I expect he will sign on for another L2 club as he's decent. And Connor Riley-Lowe is a tidy LB but may drop into the National League initially.

So, that leaves a decent Ish squad. I'd like Stacey back here and we need a left back plus another midfielder. If we can sort that and by some miracle retain Watkins past August, I quite fancy our chances of at least a playoff place.

How did Grant do last season mate? He was always injured when he played for us but did score some cracking goals.

Very in and out tbh, although the final month or so he's been great for us. Probably because he wants a new deal!

He's definitely talented but is a typical player that flatters to deceive. I'd like to keep him though, as he's a useful squad player to have.

Yep, no surprises with our list. Bobby was 2nd choice for half the season so I'm not too disappointed that he looks to be moving on. Think I'd prefer for us to go for Pym in the long run anyway. I liked CRL and think he can still develop into a good left back. Grant had a good last month and does have his moments so I would like us to retain him.

On the whole I'm pleased to see we've kept all our key players. Think we need a new left back (Moxey please), right back (Stacey please), centre mid and maybe an attacking midfielder in the event Watkins does move on.

Wow, Jack Stacey must have improved hugely since his loan spell with us in 15/16. He looked horribly out of his depth in League 2 back then.
