I can see Bruce getting it. Any thoughts on big Sam? Obviously not going to happen because of all the shit that's happened, but I've always thought he was great at getting the job done.

Hasn't Smith ruled himself out? I may be wrong. Not that it matters if he has of course as he could always do a U-turn when the cash is flashed.

Not known for his loyalty is he? He signed a new contract at Walsall and left them a month or two later to go to Brentford.

On checking this was before RDM was sacked, and even then he just kind of refused to comment on it.

I'd have taken him, wanted him last season but he took the bloody Sunderland job. Seeing as it looks like he's going to be suspended from football, it's probably not the wisest move now.

Yeah I wanted him too. It's not pretty but like I said he gets the job done. His teams are horrible to play against, which you need in this league. I remember that Bolton team he had, bloody horrible team to play against.

I think Dean Smith would be a good move. He's improved every club he's been at and Villa right now need someone who understands the club and it's fans inside out. He'd get time from supporters considering he's one of them and of course he doesn't have to undergo a huge rebuilding job as the players he has are all more than good enough. If I was a Villa fan, he'd be my pick. Realistically though I think Dr Tony will play it safe and get Bruce. Should be a good appointment on paper but with his Blues links, there is zero room for error.

Yeah, personally I think Smith is my first choice, but he is a more risky option than Bruce. I wanted him in the summer, but since it has come out that he is also a dodgy cvnt, I don't know at the minute.

I actually wouldn't mind Mick either, proven track record in this league, he's not had all that much to work with at Ipswich has he, TB?

I do stand to be corrected, however.

He's had enough in the last 18 months to not have taken us far backwards as he has, and he's a one trick pony.
Respect to him for saving us from relegation, and taking us to a playoff semi final, but he has to go ASAP. Too stubborn to change.

You're more than welcome to him.

One of the best promotion records in the league, surely? Probably (definitely) wouldn't be a long-term solution, but what manager is nowadays?

He has a very hefty buyout clause (increased & renewed contract in Jan to 2018 with option for further two years), he's been public about that. Will be cheaper options available but who knows?

I suppose it's all about getting out of this league at any cost. Nah, I'd rather us go with Bruce.

Grayson 3rd favourite at 7/1
God no.

Also, from oddschecker, he's 10th favourite. Behind (in order) Bruce, Smith, Clarke, Wagner, McClaren (yeah right), Giggs, Allardyce, Johnson and McCarthy.

I saw Grayson at 18's.

Can't see him interesting Villa's mentalist owner.

Grayson is as high as 20/1 and as low as 15/2 across the main bookies.

Would be surprised if it was Smith, not because I don't think he'd go, he'd be off in a shot, but because I think they'll go for a name instead.

Not sure how bothered I'd be if he did go. Think we could make a run for the play offs this season if he does stay, but equally I've had times when I've questioned his tactics and substitutions. We've been fantastic defensively this season, and while a lot of credit has to go to the players, a lot has to go to Smith too...

Guess I would be disappointed, but we'd be fine and bounce back

I suspect Evans would let him go for free now though! Saves him paying out to sack him!

Ipswich would be stupid to sack McCarthy. They are only looking poor this season as they have been overachieving consistently throughout his leadership.

Hopefully takes Villa longer than two weeks to appoint a new manager, then we get the joys of Clarke back at the Madejski. Would be interesting.

This really isn't the case. We've overachieved with him at the helm in the past, I've been a long time supporter of McCarthy.. but for anyone in the know we are now very much underachieving, and have been for 18 months, there's little argument there - and that's only taking into account results, not even factoring in entertainment value, stubborness to change and square pegs in round holes etc.

It really is a sorry state of affairs at the moment and I would be happy if he goes in the coming weeks.

Wagner could've gone to Liverpool with Klopp but turned that down for the project here. No doubt Villa are streets ahead of us in terms of size but I doubt now's the time for him to go.

Don't think you'd leave top of the season with just under a 1/4 of the season gone to go to 19th who are in a mess.

It's going to be Steve Bruce. By all accounts he's interested. Will be great to have him as our manager, and him returning to the sty and grabbing us three points. That will shut them up for a bit.
