Absolutely baffling! On the budget they have he's been amazing.

Would take him here over Smith given the chance

Are there any Brum fans on the forum? It'd be interesting if there are any deeper reasons beyond footballing reasons why he's gone. Seems nonsensical from the outside, especially with Zola favourite to replace him...

Can't imagine Brum fans will be happy with Zola

WHAT THE FUCK!?

Honestly, this is ridiculous. He's steered an average squad well - this season in particular - we're three points off third in an incredibly difficult league and he's got the boot?

I can only presume:

  • They've tapped up Sam Allardyce and think getting him in is worth the collateral damage being caused here.
  • As above, but with Roy Hodgson
  • As above, but with Neil Warnock because everyone in our board room is sniffing glue.
  • The new owners are just trying to 'make their mark' (and are all sniffing glue).

Rowett gone from Birmingham.

Odd.
Plain bizarre! Didn't they lose 8-0 at home to Bournemouth the weekend after Lee Clark had left? Rowett has done brilliantly considering the mess the club was in.

Warnock's only just joined Cardiff, that won't be happening.

I hope it's Zola, that'd be hilarious

Indeed. They were an absolute shambles that day. Rowett turned that ship around within weeks and steadied them, and has only improved ever since from what I've seen.

Zola?
Mental.

Well if it's Zola they want then they must not be happy with the football played because tactically wise he isn't great.

That is mental, they've just sacked one of the most highly rated managers outside the Premier League and replaced him with Zola. :fl:

Done a great job with Birmingham considering the budget he has and let's be honest, it's a very average team who he's been getting the best out of. No doubt there will already be a thread on Owlstalk from the mongs about getting him in.

Baffling one. The club statement says, "Gary came in and immediately stabilised the team amid difficult circumstances and during his tenure improved the Club’s fortunes on the field."

Yeah, exactly.. so why have you sacked him? :bl:

Doesn't give any legit reason, just some waffle about strategic, long-term view.

Simply baffling.

Unfortunately for Birmingham this sounds eerily similar to what happened to us when the Belgians took over, sacked a popular, successful manager with no real plan. Difference being we were not sitting in third place of one of the most competitive leagues in Europe!

Can not get my head round this one at all, at least for Rowett he isn't going to be out of work long.

This may be as good a place as any to ask Forest fans how Montanier is doing? Judging by the league position, not very good.
Like him a lot. Seems a good bloke and is single handedly propping us this club. Hasn't moaned once about the hand he's been dealt. Blooded a lot of kids and encourages open football. Made some mistakes and think he really needs to work on his defensive tactics, but given time, backing and something resembling a structured hierarchy, he could do well. He is almost unanimously liked here bar the usual keyboard warriors.

He also has the best song I think we've had at Forest and is a funny chap.

Maybe there was something in the rumours that we tried to bring in Rowett in the Summer..

Ipswich ticks all the right boxes.
He's been touted by our fans as a potential McCarthy replacement for a while, I thought it was unrealistic because (a) we wouldn't pay enough to poach a divisional rival, and (b) I don't see why he'd leave Birmingham for Ipswich. Both of those obstacles are now out the way so it's a possibility.
