Think you can reserve our space here for next season. How’s the standard of football down here because I can’t imagine it being worse than the **** we play at the moment!

So how much is the membership fee?

We might not be able to even pay that.

the football aint bad, some good teams, obviously some teams made up of 6 storey buildings but that can be said about league 2 and 1.
The refs are poor though, the worst part of the league is its board as no one has bollocks to make any decisions.

They all seem to get promoted to the FL though!

I genuinely don’t think being a part of this league is that bad anymore. Granted, it’s still ‘non league’, but the general size of the clubs down at this level makes it have more of a ‘League 3’ feel than Non League if you get what I’m saying. Don’t get me wrong, I’d love to be back in the FL but I just don’t think it’s quite the pit of misery it once was!! (Only a personal view..)

I think I’m right in saying there are only a handful of part time clubs at this level these days which shows just how far this league has come (mainly from renowned football league clubs like ourselves drastically underperforming to find our way here!!)

As others have said, the biggest downfall of this league are the officials. To put it bluntly they’re absolutely honking... yet to see one not try and make a game all about them in almost 3 years...

Even with your troubles this season I can't imagine you will come to the Walks and get nil.

From a selfish point of view and in the hope that crowds will be allowed next season (I know its a pipe dream) Grimsby and Southend look a lot more appealing than Barrow.

You have to be truly awful at defending to let us score. Our sham of a football club cannot attract players of any quality, especially forwards, unsurprising when you have a reputation for spending long periods of time not paying your employees. I don't think that changes next season, I expect more troubles in front of goal.

As the only previous time Southend United faced Kings Lynn (FA Cup, 1968) we smashed 9 past them it's ripe for the usual ex-league, welcome to non-league, humbling to come in Norfolk.

This is where we could be in real trouble. I'd love to be a fly on the National League AGM wall when they tell Ron he's got to prove he has the finances to make it through the season and no they won't accept waiting for a couple of months while he shifts some stuff around.
Could be the first point he regrets mothballing us down the leagues and out of the comfortable 'we don't really care where the money comes from or when' EFL.

We are averaging just over 2 a game so awful doesn't really come close, the really sad bit is that we have fared better since furloughing half the squad. Basically any ball into our box will cause us complete panic although maybe we will be a different proposition in 2021/22 but I doubt it. I don't remember much of 1968 (in a pram!) but if you are saying anything less than nine against will be an improvement I will take it :)

Do you post in the League Two forum much, KM? I swear I never see any of your posts, maybe I'm just not looking hard enough.

I haven't posted on here in years, I'll be more active next season in this section as there's always been decent posters here.

Well this isn't the place to come if you want logical or rational decisions. If you have any expectations that the National League board are fit to administer anything more complex than a tombola at the village fete, I think you may be gravely mistaken.

Lovely as another stint in the bananarama league would be were plodding along at a sufficient pace to be ok, 2 wins from the final 8 games will take us to 50, not that 50 will be what’s needed to stop up. Clough knows (and has stated) what he wants and needs for next season and to have him as manager is incredible. but we’re mansfield and will always find some elaborate way of cocking it up (though our friends across the m1 and down the A60 remind me on how bad it could be!)

As for the quality of the league this season it’s been a disaster really

grimsby have shown some sign of life and unbeaten in 6, though 5 draws and a win isn’t enough currently
southend aren’t a bad side until they get into the other sides penalty area - you’re always going to be in bother when you’ve scored 22 goals and it’s easter.

Barrow looked as if they’d obtained safety going on a 4 game winning streak which started with a 2-0 win over us but have lost the last 2, they’re away at out of form colchester easter monday and have a block buster against southend the 2nd last game of the season.

Colchester are the ones really in bother form wise, won 1 in the last 22 but have have barrow southend and walsall in the next 5 games that will go along way to deciding their fate.

Personally i’d love grimsby and barrow to stop up, but it doesn’t look likely, i suppose if grimsby going down they can resurrect hat east midlands table thing with chesterfield and county next season - though with both in the playoffs one might get back up next season.

I still think there should be a realistic conversation about a 3rd promotion spot / i thought so when in the conference and still do now, odd that league 2 has 4 teams promoted but only 2 go down whereas the conference is the opposite

What an uninspiring set of teams in the relegation picture, some proper tinpotters in there.
Looks like it’ll be Grimsby and one other - hopefully Southend, considering how rattled they were a few years ago when we deliberately turned the lights off to deny them promotion.
Hopefully Barrow can survive - would be a disaster for the Southern brotherhood to lose Sutton and Torquay and have them replaced by Grimsby and Barrow.

99.9% of the sides in the National League are down south, simmer down.

I’m amazed that the thought of a cold wet November Tuesday night in Cleethorpes is not very appealing for you.

In fairness aldershot has about as much appeal as an ingrowing toenail, i find it hard anyone would look forward to that trip, northern or southern alike!

I guess Adam Stag is right. The place doesn’t appeal to many Shots supporters either. But you can’t help where you are brought up, and humble as the “Rec” and the town is, I’d much rather travel back there to watch my now not-so-local club, than join the glory hunters who follow rich and fashionable clubs umpteen miles away. And Mansfield is hardly fashionable either, but I’d love the chance to go back and visit the place again with the Shots back in the FL. Sadly I expect a long wait.

I'm seeing rumours that Colchester could be placed in admin. Surely they're down if so?

I'm a bit sceptical of that for two reasons. Firstly, their Chairman said a few days ago that their budget cuts this season would see them in a better state than others next season and secondly, they owe pretty much all their money to him.

Has the point not passed where the deduction would be applied next season, rather than this?

Not sure sorry.

It’d still be applied this season if it meant they were relegated. Sounds like it’s nonsense anyway, though.
