Well we’ve decided to give it a right good go now, beat Bolton 2-1 today but played fantastically and should have won by more.
Sadly it’s probably come too late for us but if we play like we did today for our last 5 games then we have a chance and that’s all we can ask for.

Unfortunately GTFCfish getting all giddy after our win today meant Colchester went and won after and sucked the life out of us again, I blame fish! :sur:

Yep.
The only hope for either of us is if that was Col U last points of the season. They can effectively relegate us on Tuesday which would be the nightmare scenario for us.

Sorry we might not be joining after all, some very clever people have decided to make a new league and fingers crossed it starts next season, with 6 spots up for grabs.
Congrats on your promotion Hartlepool, Sutton, torquay and whoever wins the playoffs

They should do it by invite to the biggest BELTS. Assessed on willy waving ability.

So Hartlepool, Notts, Wrexham, Stockport, Chesterfield and bump York back up. Give League 2 some cache back.

I for one think it's an absolute disgrace and a pisstake that Halifax have been allowed in, but at least their fans aren't used to winning anything ever anyway, I guess?

I got even giddier when I saw Walsall were winning at Colchester but then within 25 minutes my giddiness had evaporated.
Sorry. :(

One of the positives if you do come down will be to watch Hollywood reds against your team first hand

That looks quite a good league actually, can we get rid of loooooton though, incase you didn’t know they are the biggest club in the world.

Chesterfield should be made to enter the lesser tournament with alfreton and york.

I wouldn’t want to be in the conference playoffs with our bunch of cockwombles this season that’s for sure, some proper quality in there.

So they’ve all changed it so 4th is home to 7th 5th at home to 6th in 1 leg and the winners of those are away to 2nd and 3rd, that right?

Yeah you're right actually, Luton have probably been invited to the actual European Super League. Their Simod Cup exploits won't have gone unnoticed. Chesterfield stay though, you know you want them in there really.

Haha, not really. Them losing to some obscure outpost like bromley still has quite a novelty factor, still i recall us losing 4-1 to hayes and yeading away infront of a crowd of about 250

Mansfield are certainly a lesser team than Chesterfield.

Yes thats right. All over 1 leg too so it gives advantage (in theory) to those who finish 2nd and 3rd as the higher ranked team are at home, unless you lose to a worldy against Eastleigh that no one could stop

So if you are 6th or 7th, you have 2 away games and a trip to Wembley to look forward too if you make it all the way through

*After having a perfectly good goal disallowed.

Sometimes you get a weird anomaly team that finishes high up based more off away form than home, imagine finishing 2nd and being loads better away than at home. I like the idea of this revamped playoffs as an outsider, but not sure if I'm as keen on it now it's looking like we're gonna be aiming for them next season potentially.

How has everyone down here found them? More so fans of teams that have played in this new format?

It's all a bit of a lottery. It doesn't matter if you are the best team left or you go into the play offs in good form.
Results can be affected by referring decisions or just old fashion luck.

So, it's the same as the normal playoffs then?
The big difference is there is 2 extra teams in it. So down to 7th ( and may have finished 20 + points off the champions). So clubs who have lost a third of their matches can gain promotion.
Of course the up side is that near the end of the season more clubs still have an interest in making the play offs

that’s fair enough then, certainly seems well thought out to include more sides and they do something similar in rugby league, so if you do finish bottom of the playoffs you could do it but hats off to you if you pull it off!

guessing on that format they can be completed pretty quickly also, have the qtr finals early as midweek at the end of the season over 2 nights and then the semis over both weekend days - it all seems all rather well thought out for the conference board? (unless they’ve got better)

will be interesting in playoffs across the board this season (and last) without fans

See aforementioned worldy Eastleigh scored against us, plus the disallowed goal prior. The 1 leg version of the playoffs makes it a lot more tense and frustrating.

they are pretty speedy, there was only 10 days between quarter final and final when we were in it, and the season would have only finished a week prior

Hello all! We’re back.

I’d say it’s been a nice 5 years but I’d be lying. If you do manage to go up and you’ve got a decent board then you might well do alright. We learnt once again (and by the hard way) that if you don’t know how to run a football club, don’t do it.

Hampered by Holloway’s shite until January meant we were in a downward spiral from October. Paul Hurst has made us far harder to beat and more of a football team but it has not been enough. There are some players I’d keep from this season and we’re luckily not stuck with many. We need some good signings and we know that Paul Hurst is capable of that and I’d be very interested to see what he can do with an actual backing and a 21st century outlook at a very tired club.

As most know, Hurst is usually good for the playoffs and I imagine if we don’t make the top 3 then he’ll go. Big 3 months ahead.
