You haven't done that badly, my Girlfriend's Mom has 2 grandkids (neither of which are from myself and the missus...) and is 47, the oldest grandchild is 5.

I called my grandparents by their names, and my nephew and niece do the same to my parents. MODERN. Although I call my mum and dad 'mum' and 'dad', so not that modern.
