Anyone watch this over the weekend? Thoughts?

Average start for me but it will pick up I'm sure. No idea what the pool room was all about.

I enjoyed it after about the first 15 minutes , it always seems that it takes a little while for meadows to slow down his directing and for the cast to calm down a bit . I'm sure it will be fantastic . I didn't get the whole pool room storyline either .

Recently watched the film and '86 and '88 for the first time in ages. Such a brilliant piece of work. Was really looking forward to this but can't say it lived up to the standards previously set. I'm sure it'll get better though.

Every Gadget scene made me laugh, love that guy.

Yeah, I've watched 88 for the first time today. Much darker. I'm going to start watching 90 tomorrow.

This is England was filmed in a part of Sheffield called Gleadless
Valley. It was probably chosen because even today it could pass as being a place in the 80's. I used to work there a few years ago. In 86there is a small scene where you see the row of shops from the outside (one of which is owned by Mr Sanjay) One of those shop is where I worked for a community project called Gleadless Valley Community Forum on Blackstock Rd. I also learned today that in the scene where the motorbike gang turn up to the football match Ian Brown played one of the coppers.

If you like Meadows' work and haven't seen it already I'd strongly recommend Dead man's shoes.

the thing i love about all of these series are that it feels so natural.

you could tell in that scene in the flat where they were discussing Smell that the laughs coming from Thomas Turgoose were genuine

and Joseph Gilgun (who plays Woody) is a great actor. watch anything that he is in and he is the highlight

Not necessarily, but it gives a good background to the characters

It's excellent. I found a couple of streams of it online Smat but it's worth buying for £10 on Amazon. One of the best films I've watched.

Watched 90 today and really enjoyed it. I think the pool room bit was about him convincing her that sniffing red seal would get her high in exchange for sex.

I really like Trev's hair.

I just didn't think the pool table bit added much , overall very good especially the bit with woody on the phone to his parents  I'm looking forward to the next episode .

Absolutely love This is England and this is partly why. I assume much of it is improvised as it would be impossible to script it so naturally. One of my favourite scenes on TV ever was when Woody and Milky had a fight in the '88 series, absolutely brilliant and completely improvised.

Rewatched the movie, 86 and 88 last December and they were brilliant. Am I right in thinking there are only 3 episodes? Think 88 was similar too.

Can't see Woody without thinking of him as Rudy from Misfits though.

Decided that this show is going to end with a death but I'm not sure who.

It will either be kell or shaun

4 I think, each episode is one of the seasons. Autumn and Winter still left cha.

I think it'll be Combo. He'll do a full loop from nutter we despised in the first film, to a character repented, but whose inevitable death at the hands of Milky - or suicide - will be mourned.
