If they are going to get rid of him, why not sack him now? At least gives the new manager a few months in the job before the Summer to assess the squad and bring in their own team. No threat of relegation so no risk I would have thought if they are this determined to change manager.

Utter lunacy- really disappointed for Brentford, the opportunity of a lifetime and the board seem to have thrown their toys out the pram.
Maybe the DoF system will work for them, but it seems a totally unnecessary change.
Obviosuly I hope there's no fight in them for Saturday, but after that I'd love to see him take them up before walking away

Director of football is shit, load of politically over rated bullshine. Feel for Warburton, for not wanting to spend extra cash he gets the sack, basically. One thing I would say though, everything Benham has touched thus far has turned to gold for Brentford Football Club. For that he deserves time to prove this to be a correct decision.

Absolutely gutted, Warburton has been just fantastic for us, and seems to be a genuinely good guy. I am so proud to have him as manager of our club. At the end of the day though, we have to support Benham in what he is trying to do for our club. Everything he has done so far has made the club come on in leaps and bounds, and hopefully this decision will pay off as well. Would have loved the club to progress with Warburton as manager, and will be gutted to see him at another club. Despite the fact that his tenure will last less than 2 years, you can bet he will go down as an absolute legend of this football club.
Whoever gets him next (please god don't let it be QPR or Fulham...) has got a special man on their hands.
Let's give Benham the support he deserves, as he has saved our club before, and is the sole reason we can dare to dream of the PL. Above all, I hope the next 4 months are a fitting send off to Warbs, the team work their socks off, and even if we finish 20th, it will still have been our best season in my liftetime. Good luck to him in whatever he does next.

Brentford Football Club would like to update supporters on planned changes to the football management to come in to effect from the end of the season.
Club Owner Matthew Benham has met with Sporting Director Frank McParland, Manager Mark Warburton and Assistant Manager David Weir and the Club has reached agreement on terms for their departure.
The board, with Matthew’s approval, has made the decision that the trio will leave Brentford at the end of the 2014/15 season.
Mark and David will continue to work with the first-team on a day-to-day basis through to the end of the season – with the support and backing of Matthew and the Club’s Board – as Brentford push for promotion to the Premier League.
Matthew, a Brentford fan since 1979, who has owned the majority shareholding in the Club since June 2012, has decided to make changes in order to ensure the long-term prosperity of the Club.
Matthew and members of the Board have been in discussions with Manager Mark Warburton and other football staff about the future direction of the Club for many weeks, prior to stories appearing in the media last week.
As part of a remodelling of the Club’s football management, a Head Coach will be appointed to work alongside a new Sporting Director.
There will also be a new recruitment structure using a mixture of traditional scouting and other tools including mathematical modelling.
As part of the new recruitment structure, the Head Coach will have a strong input in to the players brought in to the Club but not an absolute veto.
The club wish to implement these changes in time for the next transfer window that opens this summer and to best ensure a smooth transition to the new recruitment model current Sporting Director Frank McParland has been placed on gardening leave.
The club want the new structure to be a long-term way of working which is independent of whoever is in the Head Coach role.
Frank, Mark and David have decided, following long discussions with Matthew that they feel unable to work under the changed structure and approach as it differs from their football philosophy.
Matthew Benham said: “I am a passionate Brentford fan and every decision I take is intended to be in the best long term interests of the Club.
“Some of the decisions taken to date have been easy and some, like this one, have been extremely hard.
Cliff Crown, Chairman of Brentford FC said: “Lots of clubs are criticised for short term thinking – we want to take a long term view and put structures in place that both the Board and the owner believe will be to the benefit of Brentford FC for years to come.
“The new structure is unusual in English football, although commonplace in other European countries and in other sports.
“We would have loved for Mark to stay, working within the new structure, but he feels that this is not right for him.
“We understand that completely and had to weigh up the benefits of the new structure against losing a fantastically successful manager before taking this decision.
“Recent press articles made it impossible to continue orderly discussions in private about the next steps for the Club.
“We regret this happening and fully appreciate that the uncertainty and often inaccurate speculation has been unsatisfactory for fans.
“We must now focus totally on the remainder of the season.
Matthew Benham also said: “Under Mark’s stewardship, Brentford have achieved a high league position and played football which is a joy to watch.
“It is difficult to seek to implement change, particularly when things appear to be going so well, but I am single minded in my resolve that we can leave no stone unturned in our quest for sustainable Premier League Football.
“Innovation, not increased funding, can be the only route to success for clubs such as ours, and I fully accept that innovation is never without risk.
“We are continuing to build a strong base for the future.
“Everything has been perfectly amicable between all parties and we remain friends.”

Given Mark’s increasing profile within the game, we recognise that he will deservedly have turned the heads of other clubs. Not only have these heads been turned but they might well have been whispering sweet nothings in his ear.
As with every other sensibly run club, we plan for various possible eventualities, although not this one.
We are a progressive club and we talk to other people within the game to learn about other ways of doing things, but not about how to stop our manager leaving. We have now carefully learnt and perfected the art of fucking up promotion campaigns.
Until recently, we believed that this was most effectively done on the pitch by penalty takers, but now we see that it is more cost-effective to fuck up a promotion campaign and unsettle the entire club, team, supporters, sponsors, stewards and local residents by running the club like a tinpot version of Crawley.
We are thrilled that the club has been nominated for the League Managers Association 'Fuck Up of the Month' award for February.
We suggested earlier that Mr Warburton would be leaving this club over our immobile, frozen dead bodies, but would like to clarify this: he will more likely be leaving this club using his Oyster card.
Mark Warburton will be Brentford's manager for at least three more weeks. After that we will introduce lots of positions and people and shit and look professional. Like a "QPR-lite" but in red and white so we look auspicious to Asian investors. We can confirm that we are applying to the Football League to change the club's name officially to the Brentford Mighty <insert your brand-name here> Ninja Bees and have not ruled out ground-sharing with East Fife.
The Brentford Mighty Ninja Bees performance has been magnificent this season and that is primarily down to the leadership of the directors and assorted suits."

Well, they think they're being smart-arsed and progressive and clever but in reality all they're doing is destroying their promotion hopes and implementing a management system that has never worked in English football. Genius.

There is nothing in Mr Benham's statement explaining why they want to move Brentford to having a Director of Football or why they think it is a superior system to the current one. Despite his creditable record as club owner, it looks like a potential error of judgement to remove Mark Warburton.

I just don't understand the need for a change of system. If things weren't going well fair enough, but they couldn't have wished for a better first season in the Championship.
