I noticed that Maidenhead will likely play a large role in deciding the important positions this year.

We have to play Wrexham, Pools, Notts, Sutton, Halifax and a few others who may fancy themselves like Bore Off Wood and Yeovil.

Just in case you are unaware of what "being Devonshired" means, I will reproduce a definition I found on the Oxford Dictionary a while back.

Devonshired.....Verb

this is a surprisingly frequent occurrence, whereby a football team generally considered to be far superior than another, is beaten usually by dubious means, involving utter shit-housery tactics engineered by an elderly limping gentleman in a flat cap, who also surprisingly is not Northern and does not race whippets.
This gentleman should know better as he was a bit of a player in his day and used to play football in the correct manner aka The West Ham Academy. Nonetheless, to be Devonshired has now become a well-known feature of the National League and such shit-house tactics are not exclusive to the man formerly mentioned, and are often the tactics employed by other plucky underdogs who continue to put the "brothers" in their rightful place.

You got a point at our place last weekend that was thoroughly deserved by most accounts. Looking at the highlights you played some good stuff at times.

We aren't one of the uglier teams at this level any more in terms of playing style.

We got off to a really good start to the season then got Devonshired 2-3 at home.. although to be fair half our team had Covid. We’ve never really recovered from that day to be honest!

I'm hoping by the time we get to the 2nd last game of the season losing wouldn't mean much. We all know its going down the the last game against Chesterfield though don't we? Haha

We got Devonshired 5-0 early on in the second season of our v1.0 campaign and it's now woven deep into the fabric of our club folklore.

I DO feel there could be an element of Devonshiring afoot. They’ve got 37 games in hand.

10 games to close a 7 point gap, plus Devonshire seems to have stumbled on our best team with Orsi on his own up top after an injury to Blissett (who I don't think fits this team at all).

We probably won't do it but should put up a fight.

I assumed this thread was about Torquay, not one of the players I watched as a youth at the Boleyn.

This sort of insider knowledge is how we sort out those who are knowledgeable and those who are ignorant about non-league football. All of us down here plus the Grimsby fans knew what Mike was referring to when he started this thread!

I rember it well, still have one of the Grimsby shirts fans were hurling on the pitch in frustration.

Hahahahaha sounds about right. We got you back in the end though, although it took over 300 minutes combined for us to score past you in that promotion season.

Sorry to say, for you, that you will more than likely be able to renew your acquaintance with the former Braintree Manager next season. No doubt you will be Devonshired again...........happy days revisited.....not!!!

So... we broke Devonshire. Sent off at half time. “Very, very angry” according to our soft, cuddly manager.
