2 average to poor sides tried to score a goal. They couldn't. It rained. Highlight was having my first mince pie of the year.

The Eastleigh motor bike is going south with another 3 points. We have had 3 great results this week. Should have done a treble but can't get the hang of this vision lark

I notice Bromley have only won once in their last five and Dover have lost three of their last five. Both sides beginning to get reffed out of the play-offs and top 10.

Probably one of our best performances of the season. A very even first half with Aldershot slightly edging it but we came back out in the second half and dominated the first 15 minutes. Murphy was allowed to walk past the Aldershot defence and pass the ball across for McQuilkin to score (consecutive home goals at Aggborough for him albeit 3 and half years apart), then a hopeful long ball from Hodgkiss found Whitfield after a defender missed the ball, he then went round another defender and smashed the ball into the top corner of the net.

2 Home wins and 2 home clean sheets on the bounce for us now.

Does anyone think Eastleigh\Forest Green would be able to be a substantial clubs/s in the FL? Eastleigh's a big place but I imagine it's split between Southampton\Portsmouth in terms of who the locals support.

Fuck knows about Forest Green.

Trying not to be fooled too much by Macclesfield, despite comfortably beating us twice. Took their goals well today and made the most of playing against a side completely void of confidence. But they conceded, twice, to us. A mid-table side, top 10 at a push.

Getting smashed by Macclesfield is the mark of a good side.

Cracked it. Gentlemen, our Conference North title in 2017 is now assured. To secure a title this early is surely a record? :woo:

He's under massive pressure. He's wasted a budget on 'names' like McNulty (whose been shite) and Tomlinson (whose been shite), when we need wingers and some options at centre midfield. We've got 6 centre backs and 8 forwards, but 3 centre mids and 2 wingers (one is on loan). It was a team and now it's exactly what you said - a collection of individuals. Relatively expensive individuals at that.

Please Luton, take McNulty back?
Well done playing Tomlinson out wide to Brabin, he's useless out there as we all know here.
He's so much better through the middle.
You tried to walk in it and score the perfect goal and the free kicks were terrible too, god knows why you didn't GTF take them.
We really dug in and got the result.
Have we finally got a team to get us promoted......?????

Just got back. Horrendous day all round, dreadful game, we never looked like scoring (again), and I got soaked on three separate occasions. Boz, it's all your fault...

Well blow me down a feather or three we went and bloody won away at the best team we have played all season! Typical Alfreton that!

Harrogate 1 Colbeck 20, Alfreton 2, Thanoj 37, Robertson 53

Massive Win today! We started as poorly as ever and were extremely fortunate to come in level at the break 1-1. It was a stunning freekick from either side for the goals too. Thanojs almost broke the net he struck it so sweet.
Second half however it was a totally different story. They showed heart desire, a will to win and fantastic determination to a man to take the three points. Robertsons persistence to close down the keeper and snatch the ball and then to find the goal from the tightest of angles was the decisive goal. Thanoj then the post from the 3rd beauty of a freekick of the afternoon after a Harrogate defender had gone in late on a Robertson and fortunate to stay on the pitch.

Harrogate threatened all afternoon though and only a series of excellent saves from MOTM Matt Duke denied them.
Alfreton legend Paul Clayton was introduced on 62 minutes and Duke was called in to action soon after to palm away his goalbound effort.

A great day all round and a much needed win.

Interestingly, Wayne Bradley joined in the celebrations in the second half and called a meeting with Nicky after the final whistle which was unusual.

Welling are a lot better than last season. Apart from the first 20 mins, which included a screamer from Conor Townsend, we were very average but overall were better than Welling.

Eastleigh game next week is crucial. Lose that and we don't deserve to win the title, never mind be in the title race ( this isn't a dig at Eastleigh, just that it's a game we should win if we hope to win the league).

Hope so, you're not often wrong. :ds:

We got done 4-1 at Macc, but we're doing alright.

I also said Lincoln would do well, despite what their fans said. My moneys looking pretty good on that one.

Always right am I.

Now off to get shitfaced. I'm right on that as well.

Tranmere's performance in the second half was pathetic, so lifeless, they're a bunch of individuals, not a team. Brabin has to go surely.
Pathetic is a word I'd reserve for a big lad like Matt Rhead rolling around like he'd been shot after the slightest contact. Agree with the rest though.

Sorry mate. I'm doing Boreham Wood and Halifax, if you want to give them a miss.

You fully deserved the win based on the 2nd half - we were outworked, outfought and generally outplayed. Maybe it would have been different had we scored one of the three point blank headers we wasted but we didnt and lost. Barry Smith was seething in his post match interview and righfully so.

At least the pre-match lasange lived up to its expectations.

Our game was a snooze fest, absolutely nothing happened.

Despite that, we've actually moved up a place in the table.

Fuck knows about Forest Green.

I think Eastleigh is in a similar position to Crawley or Stevenage, they could easily get enough through the gates if the actual town supported the football club. However they'll be more Man Utd/Chelsea/Arsenal 'fans' in Eastleigh than Eastleigh fans. Plus they have Southampton and Portsmouth right on the doorstep, hence the need for investment to get them near the top of the non-league tree, if the investment continues it's more than likely they can climb to League 1.
FGR - unknown quantity for me - again if they could get a good portion of the local towns and villages to turn up to matches then they could survive in the FL without the need for the eco millions and I think actually thrive, but it's getting them through the door of course. My comparison for them would be Hoffenheim in the Bundesliga, middle of nowhere, no massively supported clubs close, need investment to climb division, only difference being Hoffenheim got a budget in the 3rd/4th tiers of German football that would have made Arsene Wenger weep with joy and their sugar daddy built them a 25000 capacity stadium.

I think Eastleigh could, build towards something that would survive in the league with the plug pulled money wise. They've shown they can grow the support and there are plenty more in the area. The question is, would the crowds hold up if the results are terrible and season ticket prices return to "normal"?

FGR on the other hand, I'm not sure how much more those crowds could grow to be honest. They have a huge fan base as a % of their catchment and would struggle to attract more. For me, without the eco money Conference is about their limit - have a flirt with promotion every once in a while and same at the other end of the table.

It's all a moot point as both have the investment... for now.

Totally agree with you about Eastleigh Southern Shayman, you just have to look at Crawley - think it would be a similar situation, if investment was pulled they'd probably bumble along as a bottom half L2 side, Crawley are a sign to all though at how tough it is even with megabucks to actually attract fans to games.
I'd say the same for Forest Green though, Dagenham &Redbridge and Accrington have shown you can survive in the league on 1500 gates if you cut your cloth accordingly.
For both it's much more about what happens when the investment stops, they'll hope to be FL teams and hope to be a Crawley, now just aiming for L2 survival rather than a Rushden & Diamonds and everything going bang.

Good result yesterday. Fantastic goal by Dom Vose beating 5 or 6 gateshead lads. Keeper probably should have done better though. 2 key points that made the result for me.
1- Taylor rushed out when one of their lads was through and took him and Hudson out in one move. Ref gave a corner. On another day a red card could have been shown.
2- Gateshead red card. Once be went off the game changed. When we got the 1st goal it looked like it could of been 6/7 goals but we sat back after the 4th and played keepball for the last 15mins. Good 3 points. Vital win with most top end teams getting 3 points as well

Some Chester fans have described Boringwood and Chester's match as the worst game of football they've ever seen.
Also they weren't happy that BW charged them £1 more than home fans. This along with charging our local radio station to cover the match, which they refused. All in all I saved £50 or £60 yesterday.
