Horrible bastard but a hell of a player. Seemed to be the exception to the rule for great finishers in that he almost always fucking slammed the ball home rather than cooling passing it in.

Massively biased, but my favourite ever player and would finish top every time for me.

Henry had better finish above Ronaldo now though...

Ronaldo in the top 2? He was very good for United and that season where he cored 42 was probably the best season any individual has ever had but bar that he's not come close to his performances in Spain. Shearer was class aswell, think he actually equaled the record for goals at Newcastle against us in the FA Cup!

He had 6 good years at United and his final two were genuinely brilliant. You can make the case that longevity is more important, but if we're asking who are the best players ever to have played in this division, Ronaldo is objectively better than the likes of Shearer.

He did! It was from an Albert Luque back heel assist iirc?

I also kind of liked the way that despite the fact you could generally rely on him, he would just occasionally fly into a bonkers tackle or randomly handle the ball deliberately...suggested there was a flicker of mad genius in there.

I also kind of liked the way that despite the fact you could generally rely on him, he would just shut the fuck up after matches and not sprout out the most obvious, dull punditry with the occasional inflammatory remark.

That said, I'm pretty sure I voted him my number one. The way he transformed himself early in the 00s from a goal-scoring (more) advanced midfielder to the man who dictated the pace of every game was incredible, and a sign of a truly great player. Best player I've seen live.

I bet no-one saw that coming  By a comfortable 145 points in the end, so nothing to be too surprised about. Shame the cheat had to win it

Well, that's it. I put the initial thread up almost 5 months ago now, and the reveal has lasted 3 and a half months (but the books list is still going so any moaners can fuck off  ;)) On a serious note, sorry it's taken so long but I wanted to make the profile for each player as detailed and informative as possible and at times it was hard to motivate myself to write up profile after profile after profile. But on the whole, it's been good fun and interesting to see how peoples' opinions differ on where players should be. Thanks to everyone who took the time to send in a list, and also to those who commented on players as and when they were revealed. I hope you've all enjoyed it, and feel free to bitch at each other in this thread as long as you like :)

Without doubt the greatest.

One of my biggest footballing heroes, and seemingly a genuinely nice bloke. He was my number one.

My number two was Le Tiss. These two did things that no other player, other than maybe Di Canio, could do. Those little moments that make you shout "WHAT THE FUCK DID HE JUST DOOOOOO" in a high pitched voice.

Thanks for running this Cardsfan. :brill:

Henry a worthy winner of course. One of the best players to never be recognised as the world's best player. If his peak had been at Real Madrid or Barcelona then I think he would have, it was very close between Ronaldinho and himself.

Alan Shearer is such a massive twat. That assault on Neil Lennon followed by his cry baby act about not playing at the '98 World Cup unless he was let off, followed by us not beating Argentina at said World Cup thanks to his unnecessary foul. Took great delight in seeing Justin Whittle smash his horrible face in in 2005 and I took even greater delight in seeing him on TV the weekend after and the week after with a fat lip.

Correct winner, but Shearer was robbed of second place.
