Suits was high on mine, it's rapidly turning into one of my favourite programmes. Just easy to watch, simple but effective storylines and 90% of the main characters are very good. I'd advise anyone to watch it.

34. The Thick of It
Points: 67 | Lists: 7 | Number One's: 0 | 2013 Position: 26th | 2011 Position: 41st
Seasons: 4 | Episodes: 24

The Thick of It is a British comedy series that satirises the inner workings of modern British government. It was first broadcast for two short series on BBC Four in 2005, initially with a small cast focusing on a government minister, his advisers and their party's spin-doctor. The cast was significantly expanded for two hour-long specials to coincide with Christmas and Gordon Brown's appointment as prime minister in 2007, which saw new characters forming the opposition party added to the cast. These characters continued when the show switched channels to BBC Two for its third series in 2009. A fourth series about a coalition government was broadcast in 2012, with the last episode transmitted in October 2012.

The series has been described as the 21st century's answer to Yes Minister, highlighting the struggles and conflicts between politicians, party spin doctors, advisers, civil servants and the media. As with Yes Minister, the political parties involved are never mentioned by name, although the context makes clear which is which. The series became well known for its profanity and for featuring storylines which have mirrored, or in some cases predicted real-life policies, events or scandals.

A feature film spin-off, In the Loop, was released in the UK in April 2009.

Like with It's Sunny, this is another show where decent clips seem hard to come by. So here is Malcolm Tucker swearing a lot...

I'll give Suits a watch once I'm finished with True Detective. Might take a few years.

I know it's cool to dislike James Corden but I liked Gavin & Stacey. Not in my list but it's something I enjoyed.

I'll put it out there. I like James Corden, Gavin and Stacey was alright, the christmas special was superb, I bloody love Malcolm Tucker, I do however much prefer Matt Smith as the Doctor. I dislike people's indifference to Steven Moffatt's Doctor Who and programmes I've never bloody heard of like It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia.

Doctor Who is a guilty pleasure of mine. S5 was my favourite but all the seasons since have been fairly average. I like Moffat and usually his episodes are the best, but I didn't enjoy S6 or S7. Davies was probably a better showrunner but Moffat is the better writer of the two, in my opinion.

I've recently started watching It's Always Sunny, love it so far.

Hannibal, Parks & Rec and Band of Brothers were all on mine. BoB should be much, much higher, was expecting that to be top 10 easily.

Had Gavin and Stacey on my list, think it's very funny and all of the main characters are superb. Also agree that the Christmas special is sort of a tradition now.

33. Bottom

Points: 68 | Lists: 5 | Number One's: 0 | 2013 Position: 138th | 2011 Position: 73rd
Seasons: 3 | Episodes: 18

Bottom is a British sitcom that originally aired on BBC2 between 1991 and 1995. It was written by and starred comic duo Ade Edmondson and Rik Mayall as Eddie and Richie, two flatmates who live on the dole in Hammersmith, London. The show is noted for its chaotic, nihilistic humour and violent comedy slapstick.

The show continues to be shown in the UK on Gold and Dave, and has been dubbed in other languages. In Spain the show, known as La pareja basura (The Trash Couple), aired on Canal+. The theme music was provided by The Bum Notes, a band that once featured Edmondson, and is a cover of "Last Night" by The Mar-Keys.

Plans were made in 2012 for a BBC spin-off series, Hooligan's Island, featuring the Richie and Eddie characters from Bottom, but the project was cancelled that October prior to production as Edmondson explained that he wished to pursue other interests.

32. Father Ted
Points: 71 | Lists: 5 | Number One's: 0 | 2013 Position: 24th | 2011 Position: 9th
Seasons: 3 | Episodes: 25

"You'll have to get up very early in the morning to catch me Father."

It's a second consecutive drop in the list for Father Ted, having sat as highly as 9th back in 2011. The British sitcom was broadcast on Channel 4, and predominantly starred an Irish cast. It originally aired over three series from April 1995 to May 1998, including a Christmas special for a total of 25 episodes.

Set on the fictional Craggy Island, a remote location off Ireland's west coast, the show starred Dermot Morgan as the eponymous Father Ted Crilly, alongside fellow priests Father Dougal McGuire (Ardal O'Hanlon) and Father Jack Hackett (Frank Kelly). Exiled on the island for various past incidents, the priests live together in the parochial house with their housekeeper Mrs. Doyle (Pauline McLynn).

The show was critically acclaimed, receiving multiple BAFTA awards, and remains one of the most popular sitcoms in Irish television history.

31. Arrow *
Points: 71 | Lists: 5 | Number One's: 1 | 2013 Position: 87th | 2011 Position: N/A
Seasons: 3 | Episodes: 69

Arrow is an American series based on the DC Comics character Green Arrow, a costumed crime-fighter. It premiered in North America in October 2012. Primarily filmed in Vancouver, the series follows billionaire playboy Oliver Queen, portrayed by Stephen Amell, who, five years after being stranded on a hostile island, returns home to fight crime and corruption as a secret vigilante whose weapon of choice is a bow and arrow. Unlike in the comic books, Queen does not initially go by the alias "Green Arrow".

The series takes a realistic look at the Green Arrow character, as well as other characters from the DC Comics universe. Although Oliver Queen/Green Arrow had been featured in the television series Smallville from 2006 to 2011, the producers decided to start clean and find a new actor (Amell) to portray the character. Arrow focuses on the humanity of Oliver Queen, and how he was changed by time spent shipwrecked on an island. Most episodes have flashback scenes to the five years in which Oliver was missing.

Arrow has received generally positive reviews from critics, and was the CW's highest-rated new series in five years. The series averaged about 3.68 million viewers over the course of the first season, and has received three awards and multiple nominations.

Bottom: The episode with the gas man is my favourite.

Father Ted: Brilliant, absolutely brilliant. "You let Dougal do a funeral?!"

Arrow: My number one pick. Green Arrow is my favourite superhero and has been since Smallville. Loved every season although season two was easily my favourite due to Deathstroke.

30. Arrested Development
Points: 76 | Lists: 7 | Number One's: 0 | 2013 Position: 11th | 2011 Position: 20th
Seasons: 4 | Episodes: 68

Arrested Development is an American sitcom, which originally aired on Fox for three seaons between November 2003 to February 2006. A fourth season of 15 episodes was released on Netflix on May 26th 2013. The show follows the fictitious Bluth family, a formerly wealthy and habitually dysfunctional family.

Since its debut in 2003, the series has received widespread critical acclaim, six Primetime Emmy Awards, and one Golden Globe Award, and has attracted a cult following, including several fan-based websites.

Despite acclaim from critics, Arrested Development received low ratings and viewership on Fox, which canceled the series in 2006. Rumours of an additional season and a feature film persisted until 2011, when Netflix agreed to license new episodes and distribute them exclusively on its streaming video service. Netflix has commissioned a fifth season of Arrested Development, expected to premiere in 2016, and the script of an Arrested Development film has also been in development, with the main cast purported to reprise their original roles in both.

Couldn't be getting on with Arresed Development. Didn't hate it, but it just didn't really convince me to persevere with it.

Same here, Alty, I watched a few episodes but just couldn't get into it. People keep telling me how good it is though, so I'm going to give it another go.

The mistake you're making is not letting it grow. I did the same watched about half of the first series and just wasn't getting it but my mate kept telling me to keep going and it would get there and it does. The characters take a little while to develop and there are a lot of running jokes that don't kick in until later. It is worth persevering with.

Alty did you watch Cordon?
Sorry, totally misunderstood this. Thought you were talking about James Corden as we'd been talking about Gavin & Stacey!

No, didn't catch it. Was it worth watching? Salamander was so good until that poor ending so I'd be interested to see another Belgian series.

Yeah, I've only watched the first few episodes so far but I'm really enjoying it. Different theme to Salamander obviously but similar slick style, definitely give it a go.

29. Top Gear
Points: 80 | Lists: 5 | Number One's: 0 | 2013 Position: 49th | 2011 Position: 33rd
Seasons: 67 (22) | Episodes: 690 (175)
brackets represent the numbers since the 2002 relaunch

Top Gear is a British series about motor vehicles, primarily cars, and the most widely watched factual television programme in the world. It began in 1977 as a conventional motoring magazine programme, but over time, and especially since a relaunch in 2002, it has developed a quirky, humorous and sometimes controversial style.

The programme has received acclaim for its visual style and presentation as well as criticism for its content and often politically incorrect commentary made by its presenters Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond, and James May.

On 25 March 2015, host Jeremy Clarkson was informed by the BBC that his contract would not be renewed. Following Clarkson's departure, his co-hosts Richard Hammond and James May and executive producer Andy Wilman announced that they would not return to the show without him. On 16 June 2015 Chris Evans was confirmed as the new lead host, whilst open auditions will be held to cast his co-presenters.

The show also features an anonymous test driver known as "The Stig", played by numerous racing drivers over the course of the series.

Clarkson, Hammond, and May are expected to soon reveal a return to television either through a streaming service, or by an American production company to get round the two year uk tv broadcasting ban that was part of their BBC contracts.

I could find better clips, but well I didn't...
