Right, this has popped up on the Shoutbox this evening and it seems we're running with it. Apparently there was one of those on TFF before it's demise and it ran fairly smoothly. So how will it work?

Well similar to the Top 100 Premier League players, I would like you to send me a list of your Top 10 1FF posters, chronological order is preferable with who you deem to be the top poster at #1. Be as partisan as possible please when considering candidates, ideally you'd vote for someone on their ability to debate, humour or contribute to the wider community in another way. Rammy, if you send in 10 Derby posters I'm disqualifying your list.

For this to work I need as many people to contribute as possible. Anything less than 20 lists and it will be a no go as far as I'm concerned so no pressure everybody.

I'll set a deadline of just over 3 weeks, 8pm 29th March 2015.

Edit: Can't vote for yourself. Thought that would be self-explanatory but just in case you weren't aware.

Its a great idea to do this again, but I think it may be worth waiting at least a few months before you start this mate. The site has been around less than a year, with the vast majority of posters joining in the last 3 months. The top poster has less than 2,000 posts still, and he's a complete fucking e-geek!

I think if you gave it 6 more months, people will have a better idea of their favourites/top 20.

I don't think the novelty of this site really matters tbh, its a continuation of what we had before so everyone will have a good idea of who they want to vote for.

Good point cha.

I'll be running a top 50 1FF bastards again in 2016. Shame that old thread died with TFF, there was some proper knicker wetting as the results started rolling in iirc.

I just feel it makes it a little tin pot doing a top 50 posters, when 47/48 of those have posted less than 1,000 times.

95% of 1FF members made over 1,000 posts on TFF though. It might be a different website but we all know each other and our posting styles.

Jeez, we're getting a bit obsessed with ranking things these days. I'm not really a fan of these popularity contests, I feel it turns into a bit of "you scratch my back, I'll scratch yours", the whole thing turns a bit sycophantic and we all vote for our buddies. We have an awards ceremony every year for this sort of thing, don't really think we need a bi-annual evaluation of how great we all are.

Also, I echo the sentiments about giving it a while if you are to run it, because we are still pretty much the remnants of TFF at the moment. I don't remember the list from TFF (I remember a thread on the top 50 posters by post count in which we gave our opinion on each one, but not ranking us using a points system), but I imagine the results here would pretty much be the same. The identity of the website is the same.

The idea and endeavour to run a new feature is much appreciated though Aber, don't get me wrong.

2 x Most Football Knowledge, 2 x Best General Poster (runner-up) - I'm not bitter, I'm just sayin'....

Yes, lets not do this again.

Lets just let whoever finished top last time enjoy his 1st placed finish forever.

I've got about 20 people on my shortlist, it's going to be hard to narrow down to just 10.

Sorry for the late reply everyone, been inundated with work today and whilst I've had a couple of quick glances at the thread I haven't had the time to reply.

Well reasoned comments from everyone and both sides have their merits, I went along with the idea after getting a few people in the Shoutbox to commit to sending lists, plus I did ask Saddlerrad if it was OK to go ahead with this. In hindsight, it may have been worth putting a thread up asking for a wider opinion. I'm going to be somewhat stubborn here and stick with the OP, the majority of active posters on TFF have made their way over to 1FF and to the best of my knowledge, no poster has drastically changed their posting style (there to be proven wrong).*

I really want people to be as objective as possible, something I don't think I can say the TFF awards were either. Were I to send a list in, there is one poster in particular who only really posts in the non-league forum but I don't think I've come across another user who is as knowledgeable on the intricacies of football, on and off the pitch, yet they were never voted for a TFF award once.

* If I don't get 20 lists in, the deadline is redundant and I'll postpone the idea until a later date.

If you want to go for it mate and people are interested, then by all means go for it. Don't waste your time though if you only get a couple of lists in! :)

I'll do a list at some point, narrowing it down to just 10 will be tricky though!

I'll do a list too Aber.

Can't see the issue. It's not like we don't all know 99% of the posters on here from TFF anyway, how they post, what they post, and if they're gobshites or not.

I'll try to get a list in at some point. I wasn't really active during the last one so didn't vote.

I'll still get a list in bud. And I doubt my top ten would change between now and a years time. I just think it would have been worth waiting a few months purely to give it a little more credibility.

Long term gains.
2 Bristol City fans in my top 10.

Would never have expected that.

I'm going to do a list based on who I was excitedly waiting to see wash ashore 1FF island after the TFF shipwreck.
