We don't need 2 DM's, nobody does. 4-3-3 with the ball 4-5-1 without. Spurs are showing why the system is flawed today. They're always 4 or 5 vs 2 in the midfied battle which means we can't get/keep the ball. The amount of 2nd balls they're winning is the give away.

I reckon your crappy defence does :bg:

Defending isn't all about having defenders though. If you're busy with the ball up the other end of the pitch you have less defending to do. This setup just invites teams to push on top of you and as a result then you need the 2 because you need numbers to counter the threat, a threat that you wouldn't have to the same degree if you don't adopt that negative outlook. Even if you can't keep hold of the ball in the opposing half if you have men forward and so you have a visible threat, the opposition will leave more of their own players back so they can't be hit by counter attacks.

If we could keep the ball we wouldn't be inviting pressure on to the defence throughout every game.

If you're set up to counter, then inviting teams onto you is sort of the point. Leicester do it.

You can't counter unless you have an outlet. We don't as our 2 central players are pushed so far back and the "wide" players are back to cover the oppositions players. As I said, forwards 40 yards further up the pitch, which leaves the option of long, hopefull passes... and ofc the ball comes back instantly. More pressure to deal with.

They're box to box players. Kante runs about 8 marathons a match. Drinkwater not so much.

I can only go by what I've seen. Which amounts to your game against us and Man Utd.

I'd say you play exactly how I'd recommend Newcastle play in this game. Maybe in other games your midfield get forward more, but it was very much countering with two mids sitting infront of the defence. You got number forward against us, but less of against Utd.

Anyway. Clearly we're all wrong and McClaren is a genious 1-1!

Lloris shit the bed there tbf. Spurs are a weird team, they look really good when they're actually playing football but they spent so much time playing Redknapp football with the long diagonals first half when they were on top, should have just kept at it and played on the deck between the lines.

Alot of bodily fluids were released this game from what I've read.

This result along with Pool's makes me feel a little bit better about the weekend. Well done again to the Geordies.
