So Burnley have just bought two players relegated from the Championship last season.

All the best lads.

I'm curious what Klopp has seen in Wijnaldum that I haven't. Decent but £25m including addons? And it's not as if he's particularly young at 25, what's the chances of him improving that much over the next few years before he hits his peak? I hope I'm wrong of course and he thrives under the German, but I'm not overly impressed with this purchase if it goes ahead. The cost of players has reached new levels of barmy.

As someone has said before, if we get £10M on what we paid last year it's going to have been a good piece of business. Obviously has a lot of talent but is a proper fair weather player who we could just not afford. Perhaps he may thrive under Klopp but I can't see how he'll fit in to the whole pressing style that he plays. As you say, it's just a sign of the current market. Played a massive part in a turgid season for us and get's headhunted for a profit.

I used to think it was lack of ambition, but it's become clearer in recent weeks that it's lack of talent.

These things aren't mutually exclusive.

There is a third rumour doing the rounds that a man simply cannot perform to his very best when the constant threat of censorship hangs over him like a heavy, heavy cloud.

Pace and goals are the two things missing from our midfield. Mane and Wijnaldum offer both. I'm not suggesting either are going to start knocking out Lampard figures now that they play for Liverpool but their signings make sense, even if the price for both is inflated.

Sign an LB and I'll be relatively content going into this season.

Wijnaldum would be a very good signing. 20-25 million is absolute snip considering we sold Ibe for 15 million. He would bring the goals that we need from midfield.

I don't think he's a bad signing but I'm struggling to see how you'll line up with Wijnaldum, Mane, Coutinho and Firmino. You could play with a false 9 in Firmino and fit everyone in or maybe you've spent 25m/35m (Wijdnaldum/Mane) on a backup player. I've kindly left Sturridge out of the equation because he will probably have his usual injury problems.

Options are never a bad thing, I suppose - perhaps this is the going rate for a backup player of Wijnaldum's talents these days, I don't know. I'm not particularly happy going into the season with the possibility of Bailly as a starting centre back and we paid £30m or so for him.

They bought him for 15 mil+ , scored 11 goals. Did you expect him to get in an exchange deal with Lucas or something?

No, if we had to buy him, I expected to get him for a sensible price, and up to £25m is too much. You think it's coincidence that Newcastle fans are happy about this transfer?

Whats a "sensible" price today? Who cares what newcastle fans think? I would trust Klopp over them for sure.

I really don't want us paying that for him. It's at least £10m too much.

My primary issue though was you saying it's an absolute snip. That's frankly bollocks.

Wijnaldum's numbers were good in Holland and though he had issues at Newcastle last season, on his day he looked very good. I'm coming round to it and wouldn't be disappointed if he signs, and 25 mill is 15 mill a few years back, not an insignificant amount but it doesn't exactly break the bank either.

I think Newcastle can see us coming.

What are the chances they slap on another £5m (£30m total) on the player and we pay it.

Some days are just depressing.

we'd be happy with any of last seasons team being sold tbf. i like gini me, would prefer us loaning him out for a season and seeing if we get promoted then having him back. he obviously has a lot of talent but never really put the work in here in what was an awful side. same goes for that apparently highly rated sissoko prat, minus the lot of talent part. ofc liverpool are paying over the odds, that's what they always do. don't think he'll be a revelation or anything but he's a good signing nonetheless and will likely prove to be more consistent than that coutinho gimp, with his skinny little girl legs, shit haircut and 30 yard strikes to nowhere.

I hope FSG veto the Wijnaldum deal at £20m+. He's barely worth what Newcastle paid for him. Yet we're willing to pay above and beyond.

If we have money to burn, why not go for Yaya Toure. World Class certified. Just what we need!

Wow Yaya Toure who is finished! That's as bad as your love for the woeful Skrtel.

I personally think we should have a word with Roy Keane. With the right amount of money on the table I reckon he'd jump at the chance to play again.

Stockport County.
Wijanldum is a top 10 player at best. Liverpool need more top 6 quality if they are to break back into there. I think the money could be spent more wisely.

I do like Mane, but on the whole pretty underwhelming from Klopp this. I thought he'd attract better quality. As it stands they'll be nowhere near the top 4 in my opinion and will only trouble the top 6 if they get lucky with injuries.

Macclesfield Town/Manchester City. It's complicated.
Sky Sports News reporting that City have put in a bid for Reece Oxford, but it's been rejected by the club.

Meh.

City's scatter gun approach to transfers this summer is odd and out of character for them. Usually they know who they want and go all out.

They'll end up signing 5-6 come 1st Sept but they won't be Guardiola's first picks (bar Gundogan and probably Stones).

No Europe and time to train will gain good results. I expect them to be pushing for the CL spots.
