Sessegnon is staying at Fulham. Probably a good choice for him to develop more this year out of the limelight a bit and then see if one of the big boys comes back in for him next season.

Manchester City are confident of signing Alexis Sánchez, according to the Guardian.

He's clearly a fantastic player who would most likely love to play under Guardiola again but surely there must come a point where City stop buying attacking players? They already have Agüero, Silva, Sané, Sterling, De Bruyne and the other Silva to vie for starting attacking spots.

Arsenal have also had a £31m bid for Monaco's Lemar turned down, according to the same paper.

Well, people call Wes Hooligan the Irish Messi and he rarely starts so it depends on your definition of Messi.

Wes Hooligan, was this epic? Is Hoolahan a Hooligan?

btw: Irish Messi :fl:

Didn't Guardiola sell him on from Barca? If that's the case I can't see that one happening. Mind you they (and you lot) would be the only ones mad enough to pay him 400k a week.

Nathan Ake to sign a 5 year contract here in the next few days, costing us 20m quid reportidly. Sounds expensive, but I'm absolutely confident he'll be worth it, probably being bought off us in the next 2-3 years.

He just needs his raw edges smoothing off, he's got a bit of everything to his game but needs to be allowed to make a few mistakes. He'll get that here rather than at Chelsea.

It's a term of endearment we give him because he's small and Ireland's only technically sound creative player.

Not to mention they have Jesus too. Going to be a rotation nightmare next season for my FPL side! They've got the likes of Bony, Iheanacho, Nolito and Roberts on the books who'll probably be sold/loaned out. Whoever ends up with Roberts and Iheanacho will have done well, might not be very top level but good enough for 70/80% of the sides in the Prem.

Pep signed Sanchez for Barca and left a year later. Sanchez stayed for another two years before he was sold to Arsenal. Enrique was the manager of Barca at the time, he was sold during the same window that they purchased Suarez from Liverpool.

Sounds like Sanchez wants to go to City and I can understand why City would want Sanchez but unless they lose someone (Aguero?) then they really don't need him.

I completely forgot about Jesus! They've got a ridiculous amount of attacking talent right now.

Ah fair enough, all the years these days are becoming a blur. ;)

Really don't think I'd call Matic a "great defensive midfielder". He's a decent all-rounder but isn't very mobile and most top teams will have a specialist midfielder who can do the given job better. Think most Chelsea fans are fairly sanguine at the prospect of selling him - that said, I don't really understand why we're seemingly letting him go to a PL rival. Even though we've seemingly got Bakayoko incoming I think we need more bodies in CM, unless we're going to genuinely give youth a chance (eg Chalobah etc).

Kante is good at what he does but he is next in a long line of massively overated combative midfielders. Ever since Makalele people seem to have gone over the top in praise of this sort of player . He is the latest in a long line who have received praise far more than their actual ability warrants.

There's a reason Herrera is now getting praise since he became more defensive its not that he is suddenly a better player it's quite simply an easier job to look good at, a more limited player can look far better as a water carrier than when played further forward. I like Herrera he is a proper midfielder in the mould of midfielders of old who is equally adept going forward as doing the dirty work. But make no mistake he is merely a good footballer rather that a very good or world class one as shown when he played further foraward.

The tactical evolution of football has basically ensured that it's almost essential to have a purely defensive player in your midfield. Which unfortunately has led to a decline in midfielders of higher overall ability level. But I will never ever get on board with the highest praise being given to players like Kante, Makele , Casimero etc. They may perform a vital role, but what they give in balance to the system far outweighs their ability as a footballer and what these 'world class ' defensive midfielders offer defensively can almost equally be replaced by an actual midfielder who has more quality on the ball.

Everton linked to Okaka - if they like a big physical striker who falls over far too much for somebody of his size and was still seen wearing gloves in May then he is their man.

Mind you did get a couple of goals against them and can probably finish quite well if given the chance or not moaning at the ref.

Keane is about to sign for Everton for £25m with £5m of that going to United.

He apparently rejected United as we only offered him a backup role.

Defoe signing being unveiled via a live twitter conversation between Bournemouth and Defoe's official twitter accounts. The weirdest and possibly cringiest way to announce a signing ever - or perhaps the best?! I can't make my mind up. Certainly feels a bit 'tinpot trying to be cool'. What a time we live in. Gone are the days of just a mug shot holding up a shirt.

Good signing for Bournemouth. On £65,000-a-week too apparently, so not too bad.

You'll actually beat us with him in your team too! Always scores.

Ok we know you dont rate defensive mids that much, but Kante is not a Makelele type of player. His game is nothing like it. Kante actually crosses the halfway line. Hes a box to box player who excels in the defensive side of that role.

This is pretty much our plan! Polish him up for a couple of years and he'll inevitably end up back at a Champions League club. Can't wait to see his dreadlocks charging around the pitch again, leaping like a salmon to win every header, and maybe scoring more 94th minute winners against Liverpool.

Lot of people reckon there's a £33million buyback clause

I'd hope we have one in there but I'd have thought Bournemouth would have wanted it quite a bit higher than that.

Inter raised the money they needed to avoid FFP regulations in time so if we still want Perišić we'll be paying close to full price.

Ake would have been the perfect signing for us this summer.

Shame that we have to sell before even getting close to spending £20m. :(

Ake wouldn't get in our side as it stands now.

Really? I'd have him over Yoshida and Stephens and he will only get much better than both too.

I suppose we're signing this Polish guy, but I know nothing of him.

I'm not 100% sure where Ake best fits, be in CB, full back, or central midfield. Probably CB, I think. We'll find out in time. I know Saints have some very good players in those positions, from VVD, to Bertrand, to Romeu - all of which are likely ahead of Ake right now, but Ake will only improve. And I'd be impressed if Saints manage to keep all 3 of those by August. I thought it likely that Ake would be used as bait for VVD because it just seemed a good fit.

Ake has potential over Yoshida but I don't think there's much between them now. Stephens showed a lot of promise, if we can keep VvD then I think Stephens will only get better if he's given the chance to play alongside VvD.

£20m is also overpriced. Just think about it, two summers ago VvD and Alderweireld signed for their current clubs for £12m each.

Yeah, that's fair enough. Will certainly be interesting to see how Stephens gets on alongside VvD if he does stay after looking at the magic he worked on Fonte.

And yeah, I didn't think that VvD and Alderweireld, who are far superior players cost a lot less.

Just annoying to see Bournemouth spend £20m on a player without selling, while we have always had to sell before buying. I guess we will now have to wait and see this summer after another report of "we won't be selling our stars".

Two summers ago the transfer market was completely different. Two summers ago Arsenal and Chelsea earned 100m in prize money as the top dogs. This summer Bournemouth and Saints earned 120m odd in prize money in midtable.

Saints have money to spend if your owners wish it.

Liverpool are apparently ready to break their own transfer record for a second time in a matter of weeks to sign Keita, according to the Times.

RB Leipzig value him at £70m.
