So that implies that the local paper wasn't making it up or telling lies, either Cheltenham were, or FGR were. Are they still banned from TNL or was that a temporary thing?

Temporary. Any more stories the club don't like though and they'll be gone I reckon. They're on thin ice.

Will Dale Vince be apologising to the paper for just reporting on what Cheltenham said?

Can't see it somehow, can you?

Why though? I assume the Gloucestershire Citizen reports on both clubs and there was interest (later confirmed by Cheltenham) from CTFC in Frear. Presumably their source for the original story came from within CTFC. If we take the point of view that FGR are telling the truth, then that implies that CTFC may have made an illegal approach to Frear. The original story (here), simply suggests that Cheltenham were in talks to sign the player. If the reporter had heard from CTFC that they were talking to him, it's not a huge leap to infer that there had been discussions between the two clubs and this has then been reported as an article that would be of interest to fans of both clubs.

It just seems a bit odd that Vince has got so wound up by the media when it would appear that it isn't a story that they have fabricated. It's hardly a derogatory article about the club.

I think what annoyed the club is that The Citizen appear to be complicit in the attempts to unsettle the player, and have been very one sided in their approach to this and subsequent stories about the player.

Taken from our forum from a respected member of our advisory board:

"Facts: The player is under contract and both Manager & Chair say there has been no approach from him, least of all offers. So any so called negotiations will have been illegal, if indeed they happened

Despite this, and without any contact with FGR, the Citizen has run the story 3 times and connected CTFC & Tranmere. The Agent is mentioned too. Common denominator in every story is The Citizen"

and later on

"this is not a rumour. No one would be getting excited if it was. The Club has no cause to be embarrassed.

This is our local daily paper working with an agent & CTFC to unsettle a player. Based on the evidence we can glean, it is a case of tapping up which is a clear breach of League rules. That it is being done with the complicity of a paper which purports to support the club is galling."

It strkies me as a little paranoid that FGR think that the local paper is deliberately trying to unsettle one of their players. They've heard a story that will be of interest to the fans of two local clubs (therefore will be more widely read locally) and have run it and milked it a bit to get a bit more exposure. No conspiracy there. Meanwhile, FGR and CTFC have continued to draw attention to it, and in doing so give the stories more publicity. CTFC have made statements saying they were close to a deal. Of course the paper that originally ran the story is going to run that follow up as well. It does seem a bit odd that Cheltenham would draw attention to the fact that they may have illegally approached a player however.

If there has been an illegal approach, CTFC are at fault, not the local paper who reported their interest.

We have made a cash offer again for a player again in the national north. Bid was accepted but I believe wages are currently being discussed. Anyone heard anything?

Jon Worsnop has left Chester FC by mutual consent. We are left with a loanee youngster Roberts from Walsall. Not sure what the severance cost, if anything.

So you finally hounded him out then.
I think he's had an offer somewhere else (Altrincham has been suggested).

He really has been poor this season. Even his most ardent supporters have realised that he costs us 10 points a season.

Apparently we've signed a young defender with over 100 FL appearances. Revealed after 6pm tonight.
Needs to be a decent centre half then we can start our title challenge :D

Our chairman has said he is looking to spend the Dan Bradley cash and bring in some fresh faces very soon.
Apparently a First Team XI played the new Alfreton Youth Team and won but still couldnt keep a clean sheet, winning 5-1. A number of trialist played. Perhaps those who impressed will be offered deals?

Ran the show against us a couple of seasons back, looked too good for this league. Could still do a job if you get him fit.
