No idea why Vaughan was transfer listed might not have made the cut in the league but when he was with us he was easily one of the best rb's in the conference.

He will be sent off at some point in the season though as he has a temper.

Why was Vaughan transfer listed?
No idea why it didn't work out for him at Cheltenham, but for us he was consistently great. He's fantastic going forwards and is okay defensively. A lot of our attacks went through him bursting down the right wing the year we came second (we didn't really play with wingers).

However, he will have one game a season where he loses his head completely and gets himself sent off for a stupid, reckless challenge.

Be happy with either Tait or Vaughan both got plenty of Conference experience and Tait has got promoted from here.

Think its more likely to be Tait as can't see us paying a fee for Vaughan.

As for the position would have preferred a left back, but East is more a versatile player than an established right back by the sounds of it. Still not sure why Hurst always has plenty of options at right back but very few on the left?

Vaughan just wasn't up to standard at the start of the season, then got a stupid sending off at home to Wycombe. He never really recovered after that. Yates was sacked after the Wycombe game and Buckle never took to him. Was treated appallingly by Buckle, including being left out of a team meeting when we played Southend away (Buckle's last game) where he told a number of travelling fans about how Buckle had alienated players, etc...

Some fans warmed to Vaughan after that and are gutted to see him listed, but in fairness Durrell Berry was much better and he never got a proper look in for the last few games.

Ultimately, I think Johnson just wants a brand new clean slate. Anyone out of contract was immediately released and only 5 players who came through the youth team were told they were definitely in Johnson's plans. Asa Hall (out all season) and Eliot Richards (Cancer) will be judged during pre-season.

If East can cover both and we already have a specialist left back then it makes sense to sign a specialist right back.

We all support relatively small clubs so we've all seen our best players leave time and time again. But if there's one thing I can't stand is when we don't get a decent fee. We've sold good players for peanuts before, and I'm sure every fan of a lower league club has experienced this. No one likes seeing the better players leave, but at least a decent fee gets you a replacement or two.

Absolutely. In terms of Moult I suppose we couldn't complain too much as we did exactly the same to Nuneaton!

I'd be gutted if he goes but I don't buy this "suddenly we are a mid table side from play off contenders." He's a very good player but realistically he is replaceable. And in Jennings we have a player capable of stepping into that role straight away.

We've had decent enough squads to be in the play offs every season we've been down here. Some seasons we haven't got things going and we've finished in dissappointing positions. And we arent alone in that. But the Conference prem is a league that a relatively average team can do well If the manager gets things clicking.

Yep, Moult has gone and it'll be confirmed tomorrow most likely. A shame but that's football at this level, the best players always get snapped up sharpish.

We've accepted the offer and I would think it must be a good sum of money for us to seemingly accept this quickly. The money is there to reinvest it so it'll be interested to see who we target now. Although I think Jennings playing in his correct position in a footballing side will be good for us this season. I'd like to see us get another midfielder with the money personally, we are short on numbers there.

Strong rumours/suspicions that it is Tait. Comes seemingly with good reviews from Cambridge fans. Might help make Marshall look like a footballer. ;)

Palmer is a good Conference striker. Played regularly he'll get you at least 15.

His finish against Barnet was even better. I think your odds would lower if you signed Palmer.

When I read an earlier post, I immediately thought of "Taiter." He's a great bloke and very straightforward RB. He got found out frequently at L2 level when he didn't have track back support or a consistent partnership with a RM/RW in front of him. Get a good partnership going on the right and he should be a good fit for you.

How much did we pay? He was in contract at mansfield i believe
He was out of contract at Mansfield but they had offered him a new one. The fee would purely be the under 24 compensation arrangement.
I don't know how much we paid, if we have signed him at all. It's merely a rumour doing the rounds on our message board and those of Grimsby and Mansfield too. Given that we have been negotiating with Wigan over the compensation due for Max Power, it could be that we would be using some of that?

How did you not go up hammeing barnet twice
Because the ref bottled it in the PO final and because we were shite at home. Didn't help getting beaten twice by that shower up the road.

Yes, I'm the twat who always answers rhetorical questions. :)

Because we dropped points to Telford, Dartford, Nuneaton, Southport etc, whereas Barnet battered all the shit teams but shit themselves against anyone decent, (and Lincoln ;) ), but it was (just) enough from them!

Basically, this. We barely dropped any points against part time teams, but as soon as we played decent full-time teams we shat ourselves (although we did tonk Rovers and Gateshead twice).

Palmer is a good signing for you in my opinion, although Mansfield fans say he's terrible and find it hilarious someone's actually paid money for him. Hes a real handful to play against and when he played us he was ridiculously good.

That must be a bit of a worry going into this season . Bigger more professional clubs, exc
