Portuguese media reporting Talisca (striker for Benfica) has rejected Liverpool and signing for Wolves for €25m...

I'll believe it when I see it. Surely not. Think to spend that sort of money in the Championship would be insanity.

The mystery man training with PNE is definitely Anton Ferdinand.

To be fair we haven't spent anything yet, and if when we do I doubt we'll spend as much as Derby have in the last 2 years.

It's sad the way football is going that a 2nd tier club is willing to spend that kind of money.

Also shows that these signings are out of Kenny Jackett's hands. No way would he be making these signings, he is usually happy to sign reserves from Newport and Barnet. This is Jorge Mendes doing everything.

Think we're helping out an agent and keeping him fit, wasn't involved in our friendly last night. Chris Eagles did the same last summer.

Charlton linked?

Local Journo has said we've expressed an interest but that he's currently training with your mob.

Yeah I'd just dread to think the wages too if the guy is willing to turn down Liverpool, in a few teams another Pompey or Bolton is coming in a big way if this continues to escalate, I just hope its not us and thankfully I can't see Lansdown letting it happen.

This is exciting. Lots of quality players down here and on big money. Not every team can go up and there's going to be some carnage to come when the sums don't add up

Or, y'know, strikers that go on to make your club £10m. But you keep on revising that history if it makes you feel better.

Yeah I'm concerned for us. We are one of few clubs not in any sort of debt and I'd like us to stay that way. Say we spend 25 million euros on this guy and on a wage easily of upward 50k per week, if Fosun decided to pull the club we are effectively fucked. It's not viable, and it is a potential Portsmouth situation. It's bot exciting, but it goes tits up the consequences of the future of the club are frightening.

Eh? what are you on about? I was referring to him signing Aaron Collins from Newport and Hakeem Odofin from Barnet. For the record it was Kevin Thelwell who did all the work to sign Afobe for us, not KJ.

Do you have Kenny Jackett on auto highlight or something?

Amazed at how fast Wolves are seemingly able to move on these players and line these deals up.
I can only assume groundwork was done on them before the takeover actually went through.

If that goes through then that's genuinely hilarious, glad we're run far cleverer than that.

Yeah thats true. The thing in common with all of these players was that Jorge Mendes is an agent to all of them. We were linked with them all weeks ago so I think it's been in the pipeline. Now that the takeover is complete it's just about finalising the deals.

As Millwall manager, Jackett tried to sign Afobe repeatedly, succeeding once in getting him on a short-term loan, so I highly doubt that he had absolutely nothing to do with that signing.

I don't care to follow you around these forums, but I do read the Championship rumours thread regularly and you more than any other Wolves fan seem to have let your feelings about his current abilities as Wolves manager spill over into something much more personal and ultimately ungracious The fella is one of the most dignified and well-thought of people in the game, and he got you back into this division in style before consolidating with very little boardroom support. He may not be the man to lead you forward from this point, but he doesn't deserve to be talked about in those terms. Show some respect.

Better to spend 25 million on 4/5 players than on one who will probably come with a big wage demand too?

Brentford to sign Callum Elder on loan.

Arguably the best left back in League One last season before his injury.

It is a well known fact that Thelwell did all the scouting and equiring for Afobe, I could get you links for this if you're bothered?

Also sadly I am the only Wolves fan who regularly posts on here, there are one or two others who post a couple of times a month but that's about it. Also if you read the Wolves takeover thread I was praising him on his professionalism. What you fail to understand is Wolves and Millwall have very different expectations. You may have the ambition to be a mid table Championship club, but we want to be a little more than that.

I have a lot of respect for Kenny Jackett. He got us back up at the first attempt and had a decent following year. Last year was awful by contrast, the football was dire, he didn't know his best XI all season and ended up resorting to playing Bjorn Sigurdarson over his own signing Joe Mason as a starting striker for the last 4 months of the season... a striker who hasn't scored for 32 fucking months.

Sadly he looked clueless in the last year for us, and is repeatedly undermined by our new owners. If we have a poor start to the season it will be Jackett's job on the line.

I assume those three signings Wolves are making today are through Mendes?

Yes mate, I think every signing we make this summer will be through Mendes. Although if it's a UK based player it'll probably be Thelwell or Jackett (like Andy Lonergan)

Wasn't it Mendes who supplied several players to Sheff Wed last summer (none of whom have made a huge impact)?

Seems like an agent who wants to get as many of his clients into the Premier League "shop window" somehow. Attaches himself to big Championship club who have fallen on hard times, maybe?

It was yeah, but Mendes' players were fairly decent. Still got to the play off final.

Stam has said that van der Vaart was the one who approached us. Not sure if that's a good thing or a bad thing.. Also confirmed that the club are not going to rush into it.

Loved Elder when he was with us a couple of seasons a go. Definitely was always going to make the step up.

Agreed. Great player, and destined to go quite far IMO. Gutted we didn't get him back this year, as before injury ended his season, he was utterly brilliant for us last season.

That's good to hear - was a little underwhelmed when I first heard of it. Given we lost one of the best left backs in this division in Bidwell (certainly in the top 8) was hoping for a real quality replacement. Massive shame it's only on loan.

Still holding out for Rico Henry, but we'll see what happens!

Admittedly on the whole the Portuguese contingent brought in by mendes on reflection were no better than average. Many were used but none shine, we struggled until forrestieri and bannan came in to make us tick

I don't have a problem with you wanting him out and I am not an idiot, of course I know that Wolves and Millwall have very different expectations. What YOU have failed to understand is that I have never had a problem with criticism of Jackett. He has his limitations and I believe I made those known on the old forum when you appointed him. The problem I have with YOUR criticism of Jackett is the tone and language you use, which is often disrespectful, sometimes contemptuous but invariably ungrateful.
