Happy with that, over 100 Premier League games, 100 in the Bundesliga and 67 international caps. On a free think it could be a great bit of business.

He's not been exceptionally good in League 2, which you have to be if you're Championship quality. Brad Potts is probably a better signing.

Not sure Pearson is Championship quality. I obviously don't watch him every week but he has never stood out in a middling Accrington team.

We heard the same when we signed Barkhuizen from Morecambe who play in L2, he's turned out to be class. Sometimes good players need to play with better players for their talent to flourish.

Agreed, Potts is a better signing because it pisses the lashers off.

Even in the middle of an injury crisis last year he was our only recognised LB and we prefered to play a shit CM George Saville ahead of him.

You get one or two players who come up from L2 and do well, but it doesn't happen very often.

I dunno mate - we've had quite a few. Bentley, Woods, Hogan, Gray out of the conference, probably a couple more who weren't long out of L2. There's more talent in L2 and L1 than people believe.

Fair enough, good point. How many of those players were Championship quality in there first season?

We haven't had great success from the lower leagues other than Beckford. I think Roofe will have a better season this time around though, so perhaps it just takes time (Beckford only came good after that loan spell to Scunthorpe).

Linked with Reto Ziegler. Him and Borthwick-Jackson would add some depth to our back line. Suspect Berardi will take some forcing out at LB but if one of these two come in and show something at CB, would make me a lot more confident about having a viable partner for Jansson.

Well, we sold Gray for £9m after his first season, Hogan for £12m after only 25 games (both including add ons), Woods has been first choice ever since he joined, and our PPotS last year, and Bentley was brilliant last year in his first season.

Thought Bentley was often making mistakes for Brentford last season? Aside from his obvious fuck-up at the Madejski, most Brentford fans I spoke to thought he was ok. Not living up to the hype around him of the previous couple of seasons.

He made one or two, no more than anyone else at this level. He's not in the Top 5 in this league, but I'd take him over most. Considering what we paid for him he's been great.

His distribution was pretty poor to start with, he's gotten a lot better at that but still has a way to go

They're still pretty cheap. We do a bit of a mix of home based and abroad, and will end up making massive profits on all the players we signed from L2.
