I think Parkinson has realised that his job is likely on the line now and is doing all he can to keep it.
I wouldn't say the trial of Tomlin is desperation by any means. Under trust ownership it definitely would have panic button undertones but now we can afford to take gambles. He may never prove his fitness and get any where near the first team, or he may prove a level of fitness and end up bossing our midfield.

I wouldn't say desperation as to be honest, we have nothing to lose.
And i wouldn't say the signings of Palmer and O connor could be classed as desperation. But we probably got fleeced for more than we should have!
It’s just that there are clearly good, young, ambitious players on the way up that could be picked up for a fraction of what you’re paying for players whose ambition must be questioned a touch. Let’s face it, they have moved for the money not the career opportunity. That’s a transfer policy road Southend have been down far too often and it’s never ended well for us. Hope it works out better for you, but all that cash could be much better invested elsewhere IMO.

There probably is an approach thats better value for money, and I think its fair to say our management team are more comfortable looking at the League than non league but we are constrained by a transfer window and we want to progress quickly not build up a team over a couple of seasons.

Personally I wouldn't say we've signed too many duds (overpayed of course but the actual players are decent amd it's not like they aren't putting any effort in). The issue is we've got the wrong manager

Shades of Ross McCormack signing for Aldershot.
Aye. We've seen it many times that a player who in terms of ability is miles better than this level but they are either too unfit, not motivated or quite simply too finished to actually make any sort of sustained impact.

This is a tough league and these sort of 'gambles' rarely work, if ever. We've nothing to lose though, I suspect we'll get him in until the end of the season and see what happens.

I think a few clubs have had them players at one time or another - Billy Kenny signing for us when we were in the equivalent of National League North when he was still 21 or 22 was a good example. If the guy had stayed off drink and coke (widely publicised) he would have been a huge premier league star for a decade or more. He'd been man of the match in the Liverpool/Everton Derby match less than 2 years before.

Notts County fans. What is Elisha Sam like. Evidently the player agreed terms with us during the week but our Chairman dithered and the deal didn't go through.

I’d be surprised if this was true - he’s just broken into our team for the first time this season (scored twice past you in the week) and well in contention at the minute. Unless we have someone else coming in upfront.

He’s a total enigma, basically. Big, quick, strong and skilful. Scored one of the best goals I’ve ever seen against Oxford City in the Trophy last year with a scorpion kick. Also wildly inconsistent, clumsy and looks a bit moody. I don’t think he’s ever going to score many, but if someone can work out how to get all of his moving parts kind of working in the same direction more often than not, he could definitely be a threat at this level.

If he is inconsistent, clumsy, moody & unlikely to score many, then he will fit in our team perfectly.

I’ve no idea where this has come from but apparently we’ve re-signed Tom Whelan from Eastleigh?

That would almost certainly point to a falling out between him and Rowe if that does happen. I always liked him when he was here, so if it is true then I won’t mind that one bit

Done deal apparently.

Heard Khan is expecting to return south due to home sickness too - i know he has been training out of a gym in London 2/3 times a week anyway to allow him more time back down south.

As Jacob says, he's an enigma. Can look a right handful but on a bad day he doesn't even look like a footballer.
He looks like he's on the cusp of greatness but never quite gets there somehow.
Think he'll be gone in the summer when his contract expires so it's possible we may be in the mood for some wheeling and dealing.

Some of the rumours that have been floating are Wes Hoolihan(That would be a coup), Ex-Town Keeper James McKeown(think he might go to another NL Side), and a couple of "Experienced" Centre Halves.

We've tied up two of our own decent young lads, Jai Rowe and Finley Shrimpton.

We have lost both Pete Jameson and Akil Wright to league teams seriously weakening us,only Max left who is league standard.
At the moment we only have 3 players signed up for next year, not really bothered yet because Askey is a top manager.
Hoping for top half finish and believe budget should achieve this.
McGill our chairman is staying for another season then looking to sell,at the moment we have a healthy bank account and new ground.

I would anticipate at some point or other before the season starts JA will bring in Scott Burgess who was just released by Grimsby. Think he might have been at York previously but he has played under him at both Macc and Vale and especially with us looked pretty decent then. He does have a habit of bringing in his former players a lot and we released David Amoo so that might be a possible move too.

Heard a rumour (starting a rumour) that Jordan Tunnicliffe is on his way to Wrexham when his Crawly contract expires. We did offer him another but he turned it down.

Injury hit season (like nearly everyone in the squad) but ever present and league 2 team of the year the season before.

Sorry to see him go. Decent centre half.
