The strange thing is, there's large bits of the USA that are perfect for large scale renewable energy production. Large open windy expanses, lots of sun, lots of land for biofuel etc. Just that they aren't the same bits that have historically benefited from fossil fuel, and thus the jobs aren't easily transferable.
