I think McKirdy v Covolan might have a bit of spice to it tomorrow. Vale fans are going to be on McKirdy's back and he is going to love it. Whether that spurs him on to play out of his skin, or just be a bell end and get himself stupidly sent off is another story.
Covolan has only started once in 5 games now I think so we may stick with Aidan Stone. Cov has calmed down a lot in terms of trying to dribble around people since his sending off when he got dispossessed at Northampton.

For us we just need to keep out the McKirdy circus, focus on doing the job on the pitch and that includes the players who may have issues with him. Our disabled stand is high up so he cant taunt them like the Cobblers, so I would worry if he dives towards the paddock to celebrate in front of our harder core element if he scores at that end that things may get ugly so hopefully our fans don't get drawn into it.

Just for clarity, and I am not sure you completely meant it that way, but he didn't taunt the disabled Northampton fans. When he scored his 4th goal he ran and celebrated in front of where the Northampton fans were situated, including a row of Disabled supporters at ground level - which is where the infamous video of the fan in the motorised wheelchair was filmed.

I know I was teasing in fairness.

As I say with McKirdy he just needs to grow up a bit (ok maybe a lot) and settle down, he has a chance at Swindon which he is lucky to get after his recent spells and reputation and has hit form so he needs to just stick at it and not blow it again.

He has the ability its just the baggage that's the issue and if he does blow it at Swindon you'd think that would be that.

Loads of rumours at Vale Park around the Askey losing the dressing room stuff and its impossible nor do we know what was true and what wasn't but hopefully he has found the right place and matures.

It's a tough one. McKirdy is clearly 'different' and not your run of the mill footballer. If you can manage him then you get a hard working, enigmatic character that stands out at league 2 level. The problem is, that when there are highs, you reap the rewards. But it's when there are lows when issues happen. At the moment he's happy, he has a good bond with the team (evidenced via his instagram) and the management team seem to be able to manage him.

He's not for everyone of course and as you rightly say he does need to mature. Constantly mouthing off to referees is tiresome (but probably his way of letting off steam during a game) and he has a habit of saying daft things on social media. (he lasted 2 weeks on Twitter and recently referenced Mansfield as a 'shithole' which was just pathetic really)

Sometimes teams need characters like him and the fact we have just extended his contract tells you how much we think of him.

As a footballer its harder for us to judge as we didn't really see much of him, Pugh deregistered him after Askey was sacked and by the time Clarke re-registered him which he got special permission from the EFL to do we went on a run of 8 wins and a draw in 9 and was shoved at left back on the last game so the only limited football he played was in the EFL Trophy when he scored 2 goals, fans clamoured for him to start which he did against Stevenage in one of the most pathetic performances a Vale side has put in during my time following them... so he wasn't the only player in that who didn't show up.

I can't otherwise recall him getting any game time so although I dare say he will get stick (he did before playing for us in fairness due to his diving and an incident when he threw Whitfield over the hoardings at Crewe which nearly sparked trouble onto the pitch) its not the case that he will get stick for his football contribution as an ex player for me as he didn't really get much of a chance.

Yeah I'd be kinda surprised if McKirdy did get any stick from the off. I imagine most fans will feel like myself, completely indifferent. He never really did anything of note for us, and by the same token never particularly did anything to upset us either.

More interested to read of the possibility of a Grant fall out in the background however, it would be incredibly uncharacteristic of him... :shifty:

Yeah I would expect it would be the same stick he gets off any other club than specifically as an ex player who did something horrific. Have to remember as well he never played a game for Vale in front of fans either.

This is where our little run ends.

We can take some heart and confidence from this little run of results, but Crawley will be a step too far. They are not only in form, but they are beating teams at the top end of the league away from home. If they can go to Northampton and win, they should come here and win easily. In fact looking at crawleys up coming fixtures I expect they’ll break into the top 7 themselves fairly soon.
We may well make a game of it, but they will surely have far too much. Therefore I can’t see anything other than a comfortable Crawley win. This defeat will make Hartlepool at home on Tuesday vital, as after that we have Forest green away, so 3 defeats in a row would really undo this good run we’ve had.

Seems a bit disrespectful too moaning about his Fifa card having him in a Carlisle shirt

That's very pessimistic!
Default position of most fans.
Yes, we did beat Northampton, but we had a LOT of luck especially their shite finishing.
Anyway, if we score tomorrow, that will be 9 away games in a row.
We have yet to do a double against Carlisle; will be delighted if I witness it tomorrow on my 4th visit.
Will be happy with 1-1

Listening to the early morning news on local radio this morning and was a bit taken aback when the female presenter said that FGR will be taking two supporters coaches to Northampton.
FGR usually struggle to fill one supporter's coach.
Cue FGR's first away defeat of season although the away support will be noisier than normal.

Will miss most/all of todays game. Hoping we finally have a squad back from Covid/injuries.

I get the feeling both us & Pool are completely different teams since we last met.

I was probably in the minority reading your fans views on the game but I thought you looked okay to good in spells earlier in the season, only thing letting you down on the day was when that lummox Pitman came on for the injured Clarke.

From what I remember if you took your chances you would/could have won 3-0? Been a while now though I must admit.

Ironically apparently Clarke is finally back training after that game. We are decent now and much more of a team but we have silly mistakes in us.

I fully expect a comfortable win today tbh, queue the 4-1 loss :D

Big game today for us at home to FGR, need to get something out of it to regain a bit of momentum after our break with Covid. Not sure if teams in and around us would rather see FGR lose with the hope of reeling them in, or whether its accepted they are clear and a more direct rival drop points.

Im going with a 1-1 draw today.. although head says 2-1 defeat. Fog could be a massive issue going by how bad it is atm.

Scrappy first half and pretty even so far. We’ve had a few decent chances and have put 2 away plus hit the post. Harrogate good in possession and still in the game.

Harrogates centreback pairing of Leon and McArdle is to put it nicely not the quickest. Wouldn't surprise me that Telford would have a field day with that.

Telford having a field. Won the pen, scored 2 and an assist for the 4th.

Newport done wonders for their goal difference today. Should probably keep pushing against that defensive pairing could probably get another couple at least.

I fancy Harrogate will fall right away now. They’ve been stuttering for a while.
