Can’t argue with anything the Vale fans have said to be fair.

We love playing on a Tuesday night - think thats 5 wins league and cup so far this season. Compared to 0 on a Saturday.

It wasn't pretty tonight, but we dig deep and worked and pressed hard. Unable to work out Derbys play, they looked so ropey at the back with 2 slow centre halfs and keeper passing it between each other. With our high press, they struggled. Then they kept launching to the wingers. By the end of the game, their attacking players were ridiculous - Conor Hourihane, William Osula, James Collins, Nathaniel Mendez-Laing, David McGoldrick & Barkhuizen. Crazy to.
keep a clean sheet against that lot.

We certainly missed Hopper up front, but we huffed and puffed and got over the line. Of course we rode our luck, they had two goals disallowed, but we broke with pace and it was so nice to see a battling performance and clean sheet.

Feel our goal came at the right time (was it a pen?), and meant we could sit back and soak up the pressure, and play fast counter attacking football.

Got to say, expected a lot more from Derby.

Jesus Christ that was an awful game, I can’t remember the last time I felt this deflated after a win.

All I’ll say was this is probably what the average punter *thinks* lower league football is like, all hoofs, stop-start midfield scraps, head tennis and precious little of the ball actually in play.

As I said before the game, I have genuine respect for Accy and Coleman, punching above their weight time after time, but I think they could be in for a proper struggle this campaign based on that display.

Their finishing was simply dire - in some ways we couldn’t have complained if we’d lost that game, such was the number of chances they created…but totally pissed up the wall.

We looked like a lot less than the sum of our parts tonight, we pretty much tried to park the bus after our lone goal, but it looked more like a rusty old Ford Transit than an actual bus, the amount of times we failed to clear our lines and permitted the inevitable free-for-all goalmouth scramble.

We’re in for a proper humping by Derby on Sat if we don’t buck our ideas up.

Bit of a strange one tonight. Lots of almost fouls that were blown up. Game never got going. Ref got a few things wrong. Red card studs up only produced a yellow. Harsh on Scarlett to disallow his goal and Burton forward looked level to score to make it 1-1. Rode our luck but made it count. Sides who want to be near the top 3 or 4 need to get results.

League 1 is just the pits innit, the football isn’t good enough to be as enjoyable as championship football and not bad enough to be as enjoyable as league 2 football

I have to give special mention to our “tribute” to HM the Queen…

classic tinpot club shambles…we just about managed to organise a minute’s silence before KO…

then they were supposed to play the national anthem over the PA for everyone to join in…

but somehow they accidentally started playing some disco tune instead…and then everyone cracked up and it kind of killed the moment.

It was literally only for a second before the PA guy realised, but still, the damage was done.

Then people started singing the national anthem spontaneously…and eventually then the PA kicked in to back them up… but in the wrong place for the singers who were already into the first verse.

Quite the shitshow.

As for Cheltenham last night, a game that was short on quality (save for the 3 goals, which were all brilliant) but with plenty of battle. First half was scrappy, with Cambridge looking the more composed and deservedly being up at half-time.

Second half they seemed to want to sit on the lead and, for once, we took advantage of that. With that being said, we didn't really look like scoring until Dan Nlundulu's bit of magic to make it 1-1. After that we dominated for large periods, and Cambridge struggled to get going again. Once we went 2-1 up the game seemed comfortable. We let Cambridge have the ball, but our keeper was rarely tested, with our defence standing strong.

Caleb Taylor really is a bit special at the back, and will be playing in West Brom's team next season whether they're in the Premier League or the Championship. We've had some top defenders on loan in the past, but none as classy as this lad.

We played some really good stuff last night, should have been 2 or 3 nil but we've got Oxford missing an open goal to thank for the 3 points at all.

Our home form is exceptional, 11 clean sheets out of 12 taking 31 points out of 36.

Onto Pompey at the weekend, should be a real quality game.

Agreed, it's the first game for a while where we've won against the xG. Never easy to win when it's a new manager's first game though so we deserve credit for that, bottom of the table or not.

Next two games are against 3rd and 1st so could slow us down a bit!

Thankfully the vast majority of fans as expected respected the tributes.

Even the noisy Scousers at Liverpool were told to shut up by others.

I actually expected us to be a bit more hopeless than we were. So that’s a plus! At times we looked better than we have in previous games.

We don’t have the players to challenge. They’re either all injured or as a consequence of failing to properly recruit. We’re at least four players short without our (six?) injured. We have no fit wingers, no competent wing backs or full backs, no pace and one senior striker. It’s all a bit bleak. It’s the first time in a while that I’m just not all that interested in watching football, specifically Oxford United. I’m a bit detached from it. I couldn’t even tell you who we are playing this weekend.

That Joseph chance by the way actually cleared the stand bizarrely.

Unless I’m conveniently forgetting there wasn’t (beyond long range efforts) many chances? I don’t recall Eastwood making a save?

Those Sheffield Wednesday stats last night are fucking ridiculous for a League One game of football.

Has the difference in quality between top and bottom of this league grown apart massively from when we were last down here? We had an unbelievable side away from home but I don't ever remember dominating anybody performance wise like that.

Wasn't expecting that last night, sounds like a more than deserved win as well and a good reaction to the Cambridge game.

I did wonder how we'd cope with losing Hopper as a physical presence up front. Walsh injured again in an in-house match over the weekend...! Bishop went off injured in the first half last night as well so a bit of disruption but pleased to get through it.

29 shots! I do think the fact Morecambe seem to be absolutely crap this year would of helped.

Just standard Derek Adams football really. It’s worked for them overall to be fair even if I wouldn’t be too thrilled seeing it each week.

He was left with a shitstorm and our poor start was then dumped on his shoulders.

Hopefully, he's started to get the team in order now and we're at least grinding out results, even if it's not the greatest football. Last night does seem like the start of an improved season though.

Having said that, we'll probably be battered by Accrington on Saturday now.

I follow was absolutely awful tonight, freezing, buffering. stopping and then repeating what had been on before then jumping 2 minutes ahead etc, missed both goals and the offside one , just about got a replay when we hit the post, would not say we were shit, won at a canter and spent the last 20 minutes just playing the game out. nit like a training exercise in the end, never in trouble, zero shots on target for NK Dons who looked abysmal

They play for set pieces and long throws. If you can handle that you should be OK, their finishing is shocking. But if you have a powderpuff defence, things could get ugly.
