Feels like a missed opportunity that. Just never quite got it right in the final third. There’s enough to take in terms of the positives and all the other cliches but it’s just turning it to results.

I’m hoping Proctor is carrying a knock as his last couple of appearances in a Vale shirt haven’t been quite right.

Always find it a weird place to watch football there. Lovely stadium and all that but feels like you’re watching a pizza trophy match in there all the time.

Not confident for us tonight looking at our starting 11!
Well what do I know! Sounds like a good first half, understandably up against it 2nd half but dug deep!

1 win and 3 draws to start the season then. Onto Peterborough on Saturday...

Come on Ben. Surely you can sack him now.
We actually didn’t play that bad tonight, but still toothless upfront although we missed a sitter.
Sack him tonight and get someone new in for Saturday.

We just seem to be writing off a month of the season and it’s so frustrating, if we had Willo tonight we beat them, at the moment we’ve got little up front having to play a midfielder up top then throwing on Proctor who clearly is miles off fitness.

We should of sorted this striker recruitment by now but it’s bonkers we are having to rotate our all our best players tonight because of match fitness.

It’s frustrating, yeah I get the late finish and early start, most teams have had a month more than us to prepare but we just seem to have got this summer wrong.

Such a contrasting performance to Saturday. Burns is vital for us. It didn’t help players playing in positions not suitable for them tonight!

Burton knew how to scare us, pushed our CBs well into mistakes. They’re clearly one footed and that’s a massive problem for us if we’re not careful.

On a side note, the ref did give way too much time for every Burton throw! They would pretty much pick up a towel for all throw ins and give it a wash before taking it. Bizarre.

We'll take Wheeler if you don't want him. Cracking strike that. Was a bit tense at 2-1 but another cracking corner after a great save settled it. I wasn't even bothered by the usual 7 minutes of injury time.
Happy days

Our game is off, waterlogged pitch. Apologies to any Accy fans making the trip, pretty shit it's happened this late what with petrol prices as they are.
Driving to the game with friends...based on previous experience of wet weather...I gave the game no more than 50:50 chance of going ahead. Funny thing was that the last time I drove them to a game was for Mansfield last season...the one that was fogged off...they only need a frozen pitch for a full set of postponements!

Next time they ask me for a lift to a game they can bloody well walk!

Pompey seem to be a bit good this season. Trying not to get too excited. Quality across the pitch and bench.

Yikes, men against boys tonight. So much recruitment still to do.

Onto a tough Pompey away game

He’s a good player, don’t get me wrong, just not a striker.

I don’t think it’s anything to do with writing a month off. We’ve had one real shocker of a performance at Exeter. Outside of that beat Fleetwood, competed hard with Bolton (albeit they had ten men) and tonight I just think it was more a case the kind of stuff we’d get away with in L2 got you punished tonight. Not sure that’s a case of writing it off etc.

We do need some more options up top though. Willo when he comes back won’t be up to speed straight away as he tends to be a bit of a slow burner.

Superb win and fully deserved. Wycombe had some good moments and you can see why McLeary is so dangerous for them. Can’t help but thinking Vokes would’ve made it a much tougher game but then Diabate was imperious at the back.

Sparkes probably had his best game in ages down the left and we took our goals very well.

Big shout to David Wheeler who showed class both by scoring a great goal and not celebrating.

On to Cheltenham this Saturday

For a 0-0 game this was entertaining, at times frantic especially in the first half and a draw was a fair result for both sides. Cheltenham were the better team before the break, and Fleetwood in the second half. The away fans can be well pleased with their team, they will play a lot worse than this and win. Fleetwood still lacking cutting edge but slowly getting there. As I said in an earlier post, there are no easy games in league 1.....

We were poor in the first half, a bit better in the second but we got the points and that really mattered. PV weren't much better. I have a feeling it will be a long season as the last one seems light years away.

Bristol Rovers didn’t turn up at all but I’ll never pull my nose up at a 3-0 win.

Drew 0-0 with Derby.

Game of two halves. Derby dominating the first and should have been ahead on the stroke of half time but thankfully Marosi saved a one on one.

Second half we were the better team I felt. Had a few decent chances to get the 3 points, most notable Udoh’s 94th minute miss from 6 yards out over the bar.

Derby were very good at keeping the ball and working it nicely, they just lacked that killer ball and finish. They’ll be up there for sure though come May.

We desperately need more numbers as we could only field 6 subs tonight, 3 youth and 1 GK amongst them. A midfielder and striker have to be the priorities.

Onto another tough game on Saturday against league leaders Ipswich.

I would be surprised if we didn’t just set a League One record for the most passes in a single game. 797 according to WhoScored.

Credit to Shrewsbury who go down as the most disciplined side I’ve seen live. Moved as one unit, made life very difficult for our players to find space between the lines. Wound down the clock perfectly, got the point in the end.

Burton fans have just thrown a coin by the looks of it and hit our keeper. Scum. Ban whoever it was for life.
Ban them for life plus a term in prison for them to contemplate their stupidity.

You go champ, most passes, honours board material.

Disappointing result against Portsmouth, first half we was well in the game and probably should have seen it out leading, 2nd half Portsmouth improved and didn’t give us any time on the ball, some sloppy goals conceded from our perspective but credit to Portsmouth, they’re definitely playing as a team this year unlike last season.

As for for us, I’d love us to sign another cm before the window closes, O’Neil is just far to slow for this level, he could have quite easily seen red last night for a late challenge inside the first couple of minutes, he offers very little and we’re desperate for someone to be more creative and hold onto the ball in the middle of the pitch.

Onto charlton.

When we catch a team that were poor on the night, we need to take advantage. Our team is miles off being fully fit but it feels like we could have had 6 points out of the last 2 games and we've got 1.

I guess that's the difference between the leagues. In league 2 we'd have still scrambled a win together, but mk had 2 decent shots and scored from them both.

Worrying that we're still nowhere near ready and our starting team last night might have struggled in league 2.

Lost 1-0 against Bolton which was probably about right. We did OK and gave it a go in the 2nd half but we have nothing up top without Cole so only created one chance.

Bolton didn't really get out of gear I'm guessing as they didn't look great. Connor Bradley looked very good though.

Excellent result for us last night. Like YEO YEO YEO, I looked at the starting XI and missing our first choice 'keeper and playing a striker in CM and I thought we'd be in for a tough night (perhaps subconsciously aware of what seems a poor record at Oxford where everything seems to have gone wrong in the last two or three years).

Maguire was on the bench but no real chance of bringing experience of it to see the game out, the subs were 19, 21 and 22.

Sounded like we saw both sides of us last night - a decent footballing first half then digging in for the second and the latter is certainly something we've had so far this season that we lacked last.

If we'd have lost last night it would have been a poor start, but that win makes it look half decent now.

More of a credit to Shrewsbury, who were excellent off the ball and very disciplined.

It’s actually quite jarring as a fan of the team doing the passing, especially when you’re not breaking them down so it’s just getting recycled.

It was very evident watching the game that the amount of passes was extremely abnormal - nearly 20% more than what Manchester City average a game.

I felt we probably should’ve gone long at different times or tried something different.
