Rushden and Diamonds went bankrupt because they lived beyond their means and couldnt sustain it when the owner pulled out. The same will happen to the other three eventually. Gretna in Scotland being another example. Hardly a dream.
You could add Maidstone and Boston to that list of infamy as well.

AGM Cup. Usually held at Celtic Manor. We have lifted it twice.

We started well but I still expect you to catch our defence out.

Anybody aware of any other fanbases that hate Clough, seems a weird one.

Cambridge playing well now and our suspect defence doesn’t look like it will hold out for long!

All goes back to when we and burton were in the conference and in the playoffs, we eventually won which I think hit a nerve.

you’ve started really well, first 10/15 was all you but we’ve slowly came back into it.

that looked a bad tackle and worthy of a red, would like to see it again, be gutted if boateng has to go off as he’s been playing very well.

Have this nagging feeling that our form is going to plummet which in typical Carlisle United fashion has to coincide with us being able to actually attend games. We’ve been a bit hit and miss recently and there’s a few signs that players are dipping in form who had previously been good for us.

Tough game tonight against an improving Salford. Win and it might be the boost we need to keep this run going, lose and that will be 3 defeats in 4 games in the league and could be the start of our slide down into mid table which still wouldn’t be a disaster as most would have accepted mid table at the start of the season.

Prediction: Carlisle 0-2 Salford
I hope you are not a gambling man.

2 reprieves in 12 seasons, but one of those reprieves was only needed because we lost points from a win v Chester after they went bust. We struggled most years but had some decent seasons as well, two top half finishes, two FA Trophy finals and 2 FA Cup 3rd round appearances. We also built a new stadium and were full time a long time before Vince took over.

Vince didn't build up the club, Trevor Horsley (RIP) and his fellow board members did and that's why he is still seen as a FGR legend and always will be. Connected with fans in a way Vince never has.
Never had a problem with your fans. Only the owner. Was in The Green Man before our play off final and a family of FGR wandered in. They were treated with nothing but respect and didnt take offence at the singing which was a bit earthy lyric wise. Saw another family of FGR fans outside Wembley enjoying german sausages and said we would report them to Swampys mate. After the game we were fine with the fans as far as i saw. As our chairman said, he is a custodian of the club and the players are employees but the fans are forever and when that is forgotten the club is in trouble. Dale Vince gives the impression that history means nothing and your club is an advertisement for his wares. If he does things to ensure a long term future for you then he is worthwhile. If its all about Ecotricity and his other businesses then he is nothing.

It's like I said a while back, some rich guy buying a NL league club and consequently hoovering up all the decent players around in an effort to win promotion is more or less the same thing as what the NL clubs (inc. the U's) used to do pre 1986 to get elected to the FL, which was raising enough capital so that they could influence the FL chairmen to vote them in.

Cambridge shelled out at least £5000 back in 1969, and taking inflation into account, that figure roughly translates to more than £82,000 in today's money. I heard that it was more like 10k in actual fact, and if true, that means the club did spend £164,000 to earn a place in the FL. Of course, that money was to influence the FL chairmen to vote them in.

Then there's the way we distinguish between different clubs. In what way, and this is only an example, is Dale Vince taking over FGR any different to what Ryan Reynolds and the other chap will be doing at Wrexham? IMO, it shouldn't really matter that Wrexham are seen as a traditional FL side while FGR aren't, because things change in everyday life and football shouldn't be any different.
Wrexham will find a way of making a mess of it.

Ok half, only really tested the Mansfield keeper once but we’ve played ok.

would like to see iredale come on at lb and bring dunk further up especially with boateng going off, would bring more balance in midfield, would also be inclined to take ironside off and push hoolahan further up.

If Mansfield and Stevenage win Bradford City are in the bottom 2. That is a real fall from grace.

We’ve done ok in patches but pressure has been a bit unsustained. Mansfield look alright with the ball and Bowery is getting into plenty of space. Hannant could have done with just pulling the trigger a bit earlier. The Boateng tackle was hard to see from where I stand in the Habbin but no one near me thought it was bad. So seeing him down and then off was a surprise so I’d like to see it again.

Great if rather surreal to be back. Wouldn’t want to be anywhere else.

Drew 1-1 with Walsall, disappointed to concede late on but Walsall were value for a result tonight so shouldn't complain. First half was one way traffic, all Walsall, they got into a lot of promising positions but lacked a cutting edge in and around the 18 yard box.

Second half we won a penalty early on, took the lead the lead, somewhat against the run of play. We actually did a reasonable job of nullifying the threat Walsall had shown in the first half, we even had a 5-10 minute spell where were pushed for a second, created 3 or 4 semi decent openings and probably should have got a second. With the clock winding down Walsall pressed for an equaliser, they didn't really trouble the keeper but they had a couple of penalty shouts, the third of which resulted in a penalty which was scored to make it 1-1.

Think on the balance of play it'd be hard to argue we deserved the win but it's always disappointing to get so close to the three points only for them to slip away in the dying moments. Massive game vs Southend on Saturday, first game for us back in front of a crowd, would be a welcomed three points if we could get them.

Salford are shit!

We were too good for them tonight, all that money invested in them and they looked so ordinary.

Decent win tonight against Salford, though if we'd taken our chances it could have been 4 or 5 nil. Lovely goal from Alessandra. Excellent game from Devine, given it was his first league start, he's been a bit of a fringe player so far and was probably the last player in our squad (excluding loanees and long term injuries) who you might have worried was a passenger. Every contracted player who has been given a chance so far has shown they can bring something to the team.

Referee was a bit dodgy. He blew for every little foul in Salford's favour but let them be a lot more physical in tackling our players.

Great win that, actually shown some bottled and held on.

We looked genuinely threatening in that second half, although Stech had to make some great saves to get the three points.

I don't know what Bradford were thinking in letting us have all these decent players in Patrick, Riley and Devine.

Got to thank them eh.

A tremendous night
in the pandemic’s history

Thoight tonight could be a pivotal night for us. We’d started to drop our standard in a few games recently and I felt it could either be the start of us dropping or a chance to preach to a couple of defeats and lush on. Tonight we were on it. Salford were hardly out their half in the first half, we had them pinned back which in fairness they defended reasonably well and limited us to few clear chances. Took a superb strike to break through.

Second half they opened up a bit more and we had more joy getting behind them and getting crosses in, but they carried a bit more threat.

I think our play and dominance deserved more than 2-1, but a win’s a win.

Well that was frustrating, more in how we played than anything else although I did think the ref was utter shit.

fair play to Mansfield who took their chance when it came and I’ve gotta say it was a lovely little finish from Reid.

disappointed we couldn’t take one of our chances but just feel like we had that fluency tonight, also thought bonner should have changed things long before he did.

Crawley fans are a tad ... shall we say..unkind to him.

When Burton were transferred from the Southern league to the Northern league he was reported as saying he was fine with it because "at least I don't have to go to Crawley again".

We like to remind him when he comes back.

Oh, not sure if it's been posted but the meeting where relegations are agreed and reversed at the end if the season is known as the AGM Cup. Lots of teams in the nether world of non league football have entered this time honoured tradition.

Casey.

Delighted with the win, didn’t really think we’d get much there but that’s twice we’ve won at Cambridge this calendar year in the league (which is impressive as we’ve only won 6 haha)

typical away performance I guess, happy we held on after some nervy times towards the end

I felt they were better than us second half - they missed two chances before they scored. They defended well and though we had a couple of half chances (plus Mullin’s shot from way out which the keeper saved superbly) we never really looked like scoring.

Was always going to be a bit of a strange one for our players and fans alike so probably not surprising. Am disappointed but it’s not the end of the world. You could see even though it didn’t fall for us tonight that we’re a decent side.

Really enjoyed being back even if it was a little surreal at times.

Edit: also we’ve got a dreadful record against Mansfield in recent years so all in all we should have expected to lose!

Only a last minute Walsall equaliser saves us from being in the bottom two tonight. How depressing.
