We had a go, all you can ask.
They did, incredible effort and the fact they were wasting time after their equaliser rather than looking to try and win it shows how well we’ve done.

Should of put it to bed first half but plenty of Postives.

Referee though… he literally must have forgotten his yellow card! Even when Cargill booted the ball away in injury time he didn’t get out!

Yep. We worked incredibly hard and in my opinion deserved the 3 points. But for a poor bit of defending off a corner we would as they didn't look like scoring otherwise. We'd built them up to be Man City before the game but they are what they are - a team going through a purple patch and full of confidence but they're still ultimately a league two side full of league two quality players. They've just consistently picked up points and not had too much of a break or injuries. I suspect without our ridiculous injury list and 6 week league break we'd be right up there.

We'll never know though it's not impossible we get ourselves back in that mix for the top 3. DC whether it's been here or at Rovers and even Walsall always has those spells where just out of nowhere his teams can bang out 7 or 8 wins on the spin.

Felt much more like a proper Vale performance tonight with the fast pace and pressing. When that clicks for us we are going to be a difficult opponent for anyone in this division.

Happy with the point at harrogate - basically league 2s version of burnley. proper horrible to play against and we did well to hold on at times, though reslly should have won it late on.

We’ve never claimed to be Man City tbf. On our day we play some good stuff, today we ground out a point which is the sort of thing we’ve become good at, probably why we’ve only lost twice all season.

Said a lot that we were happy to play for a point at the end, very rarely done that this season so fair play to your lot, looked a quality side, put us under pressure and stopped us playing.

Can’t really say we deserved anything else.

Also, real good support from Barrow. 151 made the trip and they were louder than a lot we’ve had.

Not the worst game at Colchester, but not brilliant either.

A couple of moments of class amidst (mostly) mediocrity - Alan Judge's superb volley to give the Us the lead; Corey O'Keeffe's cross to set up a composed finish by Connor Grant for the equaliser.

Other things to note:
- Akinde is much better than Nouble
- Charman and Campbell look like being very useful when fully fit
- Sensible substitution of Cole Skuse before he got a red card
- Colchester should probably have had a penalty at the end, but Dale should maybe have had one in the first half when O'Connell was barged over as a corner came across
- Both teams will end the season higher in the league than they are now.

Classy from the FGR players with shushing fans and celebrating in front of the home fans. You would think they would have a bit of class considering their position but it's the usual way with the virtuous lot - always the hypocrites.

A lot of sides do that, teams have done it at our place. Not a fan of it but it’s give and take, players take enough stick from fans. Didn’t seem too bad.

Not sure why our players are hypocrites btw, just a bunch of your standard pro footballers doing what footballers do. Got nothing to do with our owners views or being virtuous and what not.

Predicable result given both sides form, draw the right result.

Once we took the lead we shat ourselves and never looked like seeing the game out.

Awful game management from Jackett for us - our team was blowing out of its arse and he made no subs and it cost us.

Both managers on evidence of that game sleep walking into the sack IMO.

Well tonight didn't get off to a great start. I got my season ticket scanned and the bloke said "Enjoy the game," and I said "You too." Fucking dipstick. I shouldn't be let outside.

Anyway, onto the game: shit. Absolute dull and lifeless affair. I didn't think either team were gonna score. Orient's football was just as bad if not worse than ours. Not sure why every single one of their players ran to the Midland Road stand to try to wind up our players when they scored. Pathetic really.

Chants of "Derek Adams your football is shit" tonight too.

Edit: Just listened to Adams' post match interview. He said we were good. Get out. NOW.

Did you go mate? If so, I'm really sorry you had to travel all the way to watch that. Bright side, if you're on a coach at least you won't have any problems sleeping!

it was pretty much the same thing we did winning at Cheltenham around this time last season - their fans were all doom and gloom on their forum then, just like yours tonight..... but they recovered and went up - and you still can too.

Another terrible home performance in a long list of terrible performances. First 30 minutes I thought we’d win easily, then a sloppy penalty giveaway and they are on the front foot. Second half was all us without creating a thing.

Fucking powder puff, academy football at its worst. Yes, we all want our clubs to do well and get promoted, but, personally, not if I have to watch that shite week in week out.

Been out and about all day so only just got a chance to check what happened between Swindon and Crawley. 1-1 is not bad but a deflected 92 nd minute equaliser for Swindon is always a big groan.
Seems our penalty was hotly disputed. An off the ball shove from what I'm told.

It appears that a Swindon unused sub got a red card after the final whistle!

Can't wait to hear how filthy, crap and the biggest bunch of heats ever seen in Swindon from the home fans.

Yeah, but not many will get points at your place this season tbf - so good point for Crawley.

On a serious note it sounds like the Garner bubble has well a truly burst over there?

Adams got a nice 3 year deal, it wouldn’t surprise me if he wants the sack tbh. Nice pay out and away from our toxic, terribly run club. Can’t blame him. Maybe Jackett is the same, I sometimes wonder if managers get to a certain age and just start doing the job for a payout.

Jason Taylor's slowed down with his age but he's a rock, a real leader on the pitch, constant communication, encouragement etc. He isn't good enough to be in a decent quality side in this division but he's exactly the sort of character you need when you're scrapping for points.

Finally home.

Really enjoyed that, far more than the turgid win at the weekend and the atmosphere was decent, Vale high pressing is a joy to watch and it always gets the fans going! Through in a useless referee and a couple of FGR pantomime villains and it got the old place going.

Hussey… a fan started a thread on OVF slating him the other day. He’s immense! We never score from corners and scored two identical ones in 2 games!

Really good high energy first half, their keepers made two very good stops, the one on the break would have been a great goal.

Second half we had to dig in at times but defended superbly but one lapse on a corner and the two points are gone. That’s why FGR are top though, clinical to take the point in a game they’ve been outplayed in and what good teams do in those circumstances.

Wilson had a decent game (our one!) and Connor Hall is looking a stand out signing, have to admit I’d never heard of him when he signed from Harrogate but is like a more younger Leon Legge.

Hopefully we take that performance and keep improving with the new look squad and as key players come back we surely will pick up further.

Chuffed for Edmundson to get his first goal for us too.

Good luck FGR for the rest of the season and your almost certain title.

Fair enough - just immediate post match annoyance got the better of me. Still think you'll breeze it purely by virtue that you'd have to have a stinking run now, which seems unlikely.

Aye that pressing game is the key to whether we force our way back into the top 7 or not. Think everyone in a white shirt had a good game tonight. For me MOTM was Edmondson who added some real energy up top but also Wilson whose movement and intelligence is far above this league.

See in DC’s post match interview he’s taken aim at the pitch again as well as the linesman for missing an offside that led to their goal (win some lose some there tbh). Can’t say he’s wrong about the pitch though as every year we get to January and it’s almost impossible to play football on it. I think the FGR manager did say it wasn’t easy to play on either. No criticism of Speedy but we need to look at options on this.

Wasn’t pretty but 3 points is all that mattered after Saturday. Especially with Northampton, Mansfield and Swindon all dropping points. Good to open up that slight gap between 4th as well.

We deserved the win without being spectacular whereas Stevenage didn’t look to dangerous until the final 10.

Onto Barrow on Saturday!
Tweet from little Nate's dad has taken the shine off things a lot. Its only a game in comparison.

Big result for us to bounce back at the first attempt after Saturday. At one stage I thought we were never going to score and that Stevenage were going to pull off a smash and grab.

I’d love to see Harratts offside 2 minutes before their equaliser when clean through, he looked a mile on from where I was in the paddock! Could be the angle though so would have to see that one again.

Pitch has always been crap, clay base isn’t it? Sounds like from the interview Carol is going to sort it this summer. Feel for Speedie as not much he can do with it!
