It’s like the half-time break sapped all of England’s energy, they’ve been so lethargic this half.

Very good first half, deflated in the second.

Got there in the end.

Well we made far harder work of that than we needed. So many chances created and missed. Justice in the end for Kane given the cynical treatment dished out to him going unpunished by the officals.

Polish up the finishing please! We maybe needed the subs a little earlier, second half went very stale as Tunisia retreated.

Well deserved win in the end (VAR isn't a farce) but truth to be hold I feel for St. Juste . This was his moment and it just didn't happen for him.

So if you do go on and win the world cup from here, when and where is the parade?

Geeb mate you know I support you deep down. Always want the home of football to win, especially when you've been playing down your chances for like two years then twenty minutes of ineffective pressure against Tunisia and you're right up there thinking it's a question of Pelé, Maradona or Best when the rest of the world can't remember Georgie.

I love you guys I want you to go out on pens.

The Referee seemed biased against England. Kane was fouled twice blatantly in the Penalty Box, yet no penalty was given. Begs the question, WHAT is VAR there for ??
Still, England won, inspite of that ridiculous referee.
Congratz, England !

Henderson and Trippier were superb. Two of the standout individual performances of the tournament so far.

Big big win, so important for morale that we get a first game victory, first half was the best we've played in tournament football for a while, second half was more the England we're used to. Slow and laboured and didn't look like getting through a stubborn Tunisian defence, their gamesmanship and blatant cheating made that winner even sweeter. Let's get the job done against Panama now, with hopefully less stress than tonight.

Considering they drew 0-0 against the then World Cup holders West Germany in 1978 that’s not true.

Yeah but West Germany was only half the size so it was only half as good.

Should’ve been put to bed by half time, wasted too many chances, but very impressed with the energy and movement. Walker was silly, but I still think that was harsh, especially when Tunisia didn’t even get punished for some of the stuff they did. Second half the energy and movement wasn’t there as much and Tunisia looked more organised, which made it harder for us. We were comfortable though and patient with our play which was good to see. Kane took his winner superbly as that wasn’t easy. Loftus-Cheek changed the game in the second half with his directness and positivity and I would have preferred that he started instead of Alli. Rashford was also positive and direct and did a lot more than Sterling for his 60+ mins. Good to see that we’re a big threat from set pieces this time and we also have people who can put the ball in dangerous areas. Man of the match Trippier, with honourable mentions for Maguire (after a nervy start), Henderson and Stones.

Better late than never!

Well done Kane for leading by example despite some rough treatment from the opposition defenders which wasn't punished for some reason.

Excellent 1st half - maybe not so convincing in the 2nd but a win is a win and not many teams have done that with ease so far.

Wait, people think Tunisia’s penalty was actually a penalty?

Walker threw his arms out to let the ball run and accidentally connected with the Tunisian. Both England penalty shouts were more of a penalty.

England threatened to be the new fresh, exciting, young team of the future. But thankfully were the dopey, anxious England team of old.

Still, they will be relieved to get the winner. And with the Tunisia goal being a VARce, at least it allows the narrative to be slightly friendlier to the England team.

A bit like when Wales lost to Western Samoa at rugby some wag said that it was a small mercy that the Welsh weren’t playing the whole of Samoa!

Still I think that getting the win in our first match will remove a big mental block from the squad’s collective psyche and we should be able to play more freely in our following matches.
