Might be the time to fork out on 4K. Sky will be launching a new box and broadcasting in 4K sooner rather than later, as will BT by all accounts.

Don't really see the need for home-use. Especially given the price of them.

Yeah don't they have to be about 80-odd inch plus in size to get the best out of them? Knowing Sky they'll probably charge about £50 a month for the privilege too!

On a slightly rated issue, we've got BT Vision (and therefore BT Sports) which meant we got a free Chromecast the other day. We also have SkyGo but not Sky TV and I was hoping to be able to project this from my iPad to my TV however Sky have blocked it. I don't suppose anyone knows a workaround?

How did you managed to have SkyGo and not SkyTV?

Presumably he knows someone who has Sky TV who lets him use their account.

Exactly. We swapped it for our BT login with a mate so they could use the BT "Go" equivalent.

You can get SkyGO without a sky tv subscription, its just not advertised that well.

£15 a month for the family package, £32 for family and movies, £35 for family and sports or £40 a month for family and sports and movies.

Blocked it as in it won't allow you to log in? If so, then your mate needs to give em a ring. He's removed removed your device, either by accident or design.

Since I moved a month ago, I use my parents Sky Go and pay them for the sports package. The live football is often about the same quality as a stream but the box sets and the like probably make it worth it... Does anyone else struggle with the sports channels?

I think he means blocked as in you can't chromecast sky go to your TV. I don't have sky go so can't confirm this, but wouldn't surprise me as other services like amazon prime you cna't chromecast, but netflix you can. It depends on the individual company. I guess sky don't want skygo to be chromecast as they have Now TV instead.

No, I generally find the quality to be very good, much better than BT Sport. I don't ever watch anything else on Sky Go so I can't compare with other things on there.

Yes exactly this. I can get SkyGo on my iPad with no issues. It's when I try to send this to the Chromecast that it doesn't like it. Works fine sending BT Sports 1 and 2 to the Chromecast (you can no longer get BT Sports 2 on BT Vision so this is now a necessity) but Sky block users from sending SkyGo to Chromecast which is a bit annoying. Sky actively admit they block this (obviously to encourage people to buy their full package rather than do what I'm trying to do ;-) ) but I was just interested to see if anyone had found a way round this.

I've got one. 4k input looks crazy good on these TV's. Netflix streams some of its shows in 4k. You can really tell the difference over HD. I love it

Now they're a sensible price they're worth buying, I paid just under £1000 for my 50" Samsung 1080p only 14 months back, yet I saw a 55" 4K LG advertised for £950 a few weeks back. A bit depressing.

In the same way the first generation of 720p (HD Ready) and even 1080p TVs rendered really shite standard definition resolution, you need to be careful that any 4K television you buy doesn't render sub-par resolution quality up to and including 1080p, especially considering it's the vast majority of what you will be watching now and for the near future. 4K video will look very good on the vast majority of them as it's their native resolution, but the the proof in the pudding is the visual quality of their backwards compatibility. Technology is much improved though, so even the cheaper models should do a decent job of it.

I may have to look into purchasing a 4k TV. Problem is my £349 Bush is working absolutely fine!
