And no team has won both games which is quite unusual. I know it's far too early to form any real opinions yet but just thought I'd give a few thoughts.

Luton had a great win on the first day of the season but were held at home by Yeovil on Saturday in a game I'm sure most Luton fans would have expected to win. Another of the early season favourites Pompey have only managed 2 draws and the less said about Plymouth's start the better. It's not been a very good start for either Devon team.

I thought that Leyton Orient may do well this season but they had a very disappointing result at the weekend. and Donny too have got off to a stuttering start.

It'll be a big test for us tomorrow at Colchester who have started the season well but from what I've seen so far I think we'll be more than okay this season. We we're far better than Morecambe on the opening day of the season and they went on to beat Blackpool on Saturday and despite our defeat at Wycombe on Saturday I don't think there was much between the 2 teams at all.

I think the early results just show how wide open this Division is going to be this season although we should really wait until after a dozen game or so before forming any real opinions I was just wondering if anyone else had any early thoughts.

In this league of all leagues, you don't win it or lose it in August. The amount of overreaction from fans of various teams in all divisions at this stage is ridiculous, but that's what happens in this day and age with the rise of social media and forums like this one.

Can't judge anything with any sort of certainty until the end of this month. You draw one lose one in November and no-one bats an eyelid, do it in the first 2 games of the season and it's like armageddon has begun.

I'm going to cop out and say it's far too early to draw any sort of conclusions. 2 games isn't even a start, 5-10 is. And we've seen time and time again teams that drop like stones after christmas, teams that start slowly but then pick up and blow the league away come May, teams that rise out of nowhere in the last 2-3 months of the season, great escapes from relegation etc etc.

You are right Les, it is unusual that not 1 team has managed 2 wins from their opening games. I don't think you can draw anything from it though, same as you can't read much into the promotion favourites not getting off to great starts.

Well it may only be two games in but I'm tipping Morcambe for automatic promotion. They played with a certain style at Blundell Park despite being well beaten. That certain style will serve them well in this league...

... the same league that you's haven't played in for the last six, or whatever it is, seasons.

You should back them, 17/1 at the minute.

we'll be alright. still a bit toothless up front but creating far more than last year and have other options up there now. only weaker on one position everywhere else is same or stronger.

The table will begin to shape up by Crimbo and not before...and even then any team could storm the second half (especially with some wily January signings) and nab the playoffs.

that said, I am confidently expecting more midtable boredom from my own team.

I thought Colchester looked a very good side , if you lose to them you still won't have learnt much about yourselves , but if you win , you're in for a good season , which I think you are anyway

But I don't really think Morcambe will be promoted, 6 years in the conference leads to the development of an odd sense of Forum humour...or maybe it's having to constantly post in threads with Lincoln fans and the Forest Green fan...probably both...

Wasn't at Carlisle but apparently we were shite first half and more competitive second half. First half was ok against Luton and second half we capitulated. We need to score tonight.

Whisper it in your own secluded corridors but I reckon that we might all be going down this season! - Every single one of us.

:conf:
We're not, I think we're pretty happy with our start so far; granted Portsmouth and Plymouth haven't made the starts that were expected of them but on paper, away to Portsmouth and home to Plymouth would have been up there among the most difficult.

Oh, so you're going to smash 22nd position whilst the rest of us occupy the bottom two places?

We were apparently really good against Exeter and then proper sh1t against Morecambe. I'll let you know which of the two we are tonight after the Barnet game

Colchester looked great I thought, Cheltenham showed promise, Cambridge were awful - but I expect a marked improvement. As for Orient, I think it's going to be another season with off field issues.

Still only two games played but I reckon there won't be just one fancied club (or should I say a club that, on paper, should be comfortably mid-table at the least) at the wrong end of the table come Jan/Feb. Have no idea who these sides will be but that's what I'm thinking right now. Hopefully it won't be us.

edit - I'm also expecting quite a few managers to get the sack around Oct/November.

When I said Morcambe for automatic promotion I really meant it.

This league is worse than the conference - we lost 5-0 in our first visit to Essex in the conference...there is no way Braintree would have let us back into the game like Colchester did for tow minutes last night...

Worse than the conference? give over - please?

A different style of football, certainly - but better - no chance.

The season Mansfield got promoted out of there was probably the hardest and most competitive season down there in a while, 5/6 sides would have won it with 6 weeks left to go - and we finished midtable.

If you read my posts the literal meaning is rarely what I intend. Just my way of provoking debate I guess, with a bit of piss taking thrown in. A lot of conference sides have equivalent fitness, good shape and work rate. And some play decent football. Squad strength in depth is naturally weaker. And then there are a few pub sides, which we usually either trounced or lost by the odd goal to.

I guess I'd lost touch with most regular Grimsby fans with you still being down there until last season. The conference has to be a tough league given how hard it is to get out of - and I dare say that most sides coming up wouldn't go back down again. It's why the relegation zone holds so much fear for those that have been down there

Yep it's harder but only due to the one auto promotion place up for grabs, but better most definitely not. A side can waste 10 clear cut goal chances down in the connie and still get away with it, while up here (OOHHHH I'M FEELING DIZZY!!) you'd get punished instantly. Then there's also the fact that the bigger connie clubs rarely drop points to the struggling sides, bankers in other words, whilst up here (OOOOHHHH!!!) it's a pretty common thing.
