‘I would say that only Germany, Spain and England genuinely wanted the ball,’ commented technical observer Peter Rudbæk.
England had an average of 59% possession – better only by Germany (63%) and Spain (61%).

So, what: Ball possession means nothing when you can't create chances and convert them. This is a rather useless statistics. I remember matches where for example Bayern had 70% Ball possession in CL matches but lost the match. Tiki Taka my arse

Yeah, I feel it's rather silly to praise England for sterile possession, something that played into the gameplan of the opposition they faced.

These report mean nothing, you have to win on the night, no one gives a shit how you do it or whether it look good or not. Only stat that matter is the score end of.

Portugal for me a worst performing side to ever win a tournament but they found a way to get through and that's all that mattered.
