I’m not a big fan of Till, but I really wanted Till vs. Askren. Would have been fun.

Tony has always seemed a bit eccentric, hence the “Tony Ferguson is the type of dude who…” meme. Really sad to read that he’s not just ‘a character’ and in fact has serious mental health problems. Probably bad form on my part to play armchair psychiatrist, but it sounds like paranoid schizophrenia.

I was baffled when they made the Poirier vs. Holloway fight for the interim lightweight title. Couldn’t believe Tony was getting squeezed out again. Now it makes sense, I guess.

Masvidal, Edwards then? Makes sense after that brawl.

Still waiting to find out if it’s Lesnar or stipe next for Cormier.

I'm genuinely saddened by the Tony news. Love that he was the eccentric dude + eccentric yet mint fighter. That Pettis fight was amazing. In a Ferguson/Khabib/McGregor squabble I'd absolutely be wanting Tony to come out on top.

For a long time it's been frustrating that we don't see how he'd do against the very best and this might be the point where we never will. Fuck. But his health and that of his family must come first ofc.

How good do you think Askren is btw? I first heard of him when he was on Rogan's podcast and not yet in UFC at the time. He seemed arrogant but was unbeaten where he was fighting so can't blame him for being so. Since he's come in he's still arrogant so can't accuse him of being disingenuous before but I get the feeling - based on nothing other than it being a feeling - that he has a loss in him and maybe soon.

It genuinely saddens me, too. He’s one of my favourite fighters – so tough, so creative, so unorthodox, and never more dangerous than when he’s getting his ass kicked (see the fights with Vannata and Lee for examples). He’s one of those dudes who seems completely incapable of having a dull fight. Hope he makes a full recovery.

You have to have an extremely high level of self-belief to succeed in any sport, and that's often going to come across as arrogance. IMO, he's actually a pretty humble guy who deliberately dials up the cockiness during media appearances to troll fans and opponents. I kind of like his shtick. Others find him very irritating. There's box office potential in a guy like that.

I'm not very good at judging how crazy dominance in non-UFC promotions will transition to the UFC. We only have one UFC fight to analyse. Lawler almost killed him in the first 30 seconds, but Ben recovered and went on to dominate the rest of the fight. I don't think there are many dudes walking the planet who could do that. It was an amazing comeback sadly marred by a controversial finish.

My best guess: he's bona fide top 5 in his division and capable of dominating anyone. He seems a bit like the Khabib of the welterweights: very average stand-up but doesn't matter because he has a highly unusual and devastatingly effective wrestling and grappling game that most guys are completely unequipped to deal with.

Interesting stuff, appreciated.

I like Askren. World class wrestler, but like you say, different in its style so it's almost impossible to prepare for. He's very sprawly and doesn't adopt orthodox wrestling positions. His stand up game is just all about closing distance, as you'd expect. That leaves him open on the way in as he doesn't really move his head. Good thing for him though his chin is incredible. Anyone else would have been finished by Lawler right there and then. Him vs Till would have been a fun build up but a dull fight. He'd quite happily eat a Till left on the way in so long as he can get a hold of him, then it would be all over. Askren vs Usman would be a fight

The only fight left for Cormier is Jones, but he won't because he knows he'll get beat so he'll hide the 'I WoNt Fight a DrUgS cHeAt' shtick, rightly or wrongly. He'll take a cash in vs Lesnar then retire.

Edwards is a very underrated fighter, honestly think he'd out point Masvidal quite readily. Masvidal isn't getting any younger and probably wants a big draw fight to get some money. He's a proper fighting man and was always going to be wrong for Till. I'm just upset because I had Masvidal to knock out Till in the 1st .

Cormier would fight him at HW I imagine, ultimately he wants the money fights now.

Barboza vs. Gaethje in a battle of the paralysing leg kicks match should be good fun tomorrow night.

Only way gamebred was winning that to be fair, it was either that or he gets took down all round.

Shame about Santos knee because Jones was clearly seriously worried about him getting up close and throwing nuclear missiles - correct result although not a runaway like Dana wants you to believe.

Yeah, it's one of those, isn't it? 19 times out of 20 that knee misses (or at least doesn't land flush) and Ben eventually gets hold of him and wrestle fucks his way to victory.

Credit where it's due, though. It was planned and executed perfectly.

Now, just watch. The curly headed fuck will be sparked out in 10 seconds when he fights next.
