Fucked up. Scary shit ahead.

One thing I have been wondering about is all the pictures of women screaming whilst holding up pro-Trump placards with "Trump For Women" or some other such bollocks written on them. Given his comments on females in general and his alleged criminal sexual activity with some women who have come out recently, you really do have to wonder what kind of mentality a woman would need to possess in order support him full stop, never mind in such a public manner. Fucking bizarre.

America showing once again that, despite their power and might, why the rest of the world has the square root of fuck all respect for them.
I don't get this either. Intrigued to see what the breakdown of votes by gender looks like.

Thing is I am just not that surprised he won!

Worrying but clearly Trump got to the people in a way Clinton didn't - maybe because he isn't part of the political elite

Lets just hope his advisors do reign Trump in a bit with some of his ideas!

How long before the plans for the wall and forced repatriation of illegal immigrants in the USA are shelved? You do have to wonder if there are people who were so gullible/stupid that they voted for Trump purely because they believed either of these were ever going to happen.

I find it worrylingly unlikely that they will. In fact, they may well end up being people worse than Trump himself.

Not only has the US voted for a meme as President, in Pence they've voted for a Vice President who believes in gay conversion therapy, is anti gay marriage, is pro-Guns, doesn't believe that smoking kills, is against Planned Parenthood, rejects the scientific theory of evolution, is anti-Secularism, believes that global warming is a myth, called stem cell research obsolete and once used campaign funds to pay off his mortgage.

He also listed Dick Cheney as his role model for Vice President. Darth 'Machiavelli' Cheney who took the US to war in Iraq despite knowing there were no WMD's, massively profited thanks to his ties to the engineering/arms company Halliburton, and left office with an approval rating of 13%. And like Cheney ruled over Bush, Pence will be the defacto President, pulling at Trump's strings since Trump isn't really even a politician. God bless America, they're gonna need it.

I was just thinking about this result and the social bases of Nazism.

Here is a map showing the geography of Nazi support at the January 1933 election.
1933-German-Elections.png
You can see that the Nazis performed very well in similar communities to those in which Trump was doing well, small towns but not usually the cities. Also, thinking back to Brexit it was these kinds of communities that were voting overwhelmingly in favour of leaving the European Union.

This is obviously superficial and would require greater analysis, but what is it that makes these communities so susceptible to right-wing spiel?

Lack of jobs. Feeling trapped in poverty. Life is pretty shit as it is so might as well vote for something different.

A lot of women can probably just ignore what he says about women if they agree with his overall outlook.

Or perhaps a more crazy explanation could be that some women might even see in Trump something quite liberating. The notion of equality could be quite scary for a random, traditional housewife somewhere (a crazy explanation).

Is this the end for the polling industry? Seems they can't predict anything right these days, bunch of charlatans and bullshitters.

Good to hear that Trump admires Putin.

He'll need some allies somewhere.

What will Trump do next?

First 100 days:
  • Starting process of "removing the more than two million criminal, illegal immigrants"
  • Denying visa-free travel to countries who refused to take back their citizens
  • Repealing every Obama executive order
  • Restrictions on White House officials becoming lobbyists
  • Term limits for members of Congress
  • Cancellation of all payments to UN climate change programmes
  • Using that money to fix US infrastructure
  • Label China a currency manipulator
He has also controversially vowed to build a wall on the southern border, paid for by Mexico. Right up until the campaign's final days, he has reassured his supporters this will happen, although it's not clear how or when.

Think back to New Years Eve 2015.

Who would have thought that in 2016:
Leicester would win the League
Britain would leave the EU
Donald Trump would be elected US President

What the fuck has happened. And what's next. This year = every other year on acid.

To be fair though it's going to be no different to the Farage/Brexit/NHS thing where he's made misleading statements for the vote and once he's got it then says '...actually no, we won't be doing that...'

What do you mean, are you saying it's unrealistic to build a 2000 mile long wall? Bush built a shit fence that covered a third of the border, so why can't Trump top that? He's good at building things you know.

Here's how I choose to look at it:

Back in the 30's, there were nazis all over Europe. Eventually, Germany actually elected one and their mistake was enough for others to not make the same.

Once Trump has fucked things up completely and America's imploded, maybe the right wing populists in Europe will find things harder. I hope so anyway.

Jesus christ what a fucked up country.

A lot of the emotions I imagine US citizens are going through I feel a fair few of us Brits went through back in June. After the referendum I felt like the country I knew and love, and looked back on fondly when abroad, was but a figment of my imagination. That the image I built up didn't match the reality of a country that voted for separation; that voted for an end to multiculturalism. I feel that our situation and theirs are eminently comparable. I see them less as a vote of hatred, of xenophobia, and more as a purely protest vote. People didn't vote in Brexit and didn't vote yesterday due to racist reasons. They voted for Brexit (and Trump) as a protest vote. I feel that in both instances it was an awful, awful choice, but I feel understanding the reasons why and not dismissing them as a basket of deplorables or as a purely stupid minority is important in coming to terms with the issues and reasons behind the rise of such movements.

I find myself kind of morbidly curious now to see how it all turns out. It's like those fake natural disaster documentaries: "What would happen if there was a great big tornado in the middle of London?", "What would a nuclear apocalypse really look like?", "What if you took a misogynist, self-obsessed, megalomaniac reality TV star and made him the most powerful man in the western world?"

Interesting to see what it looks like if the world really eats itself

Congratulations America on voting in a racist, misogynist bully who mocks disabled people, you complete and utter fucking cretins.

I've got this theory that Trump only put himself forward as a candidate to create a shit storm among the GOP, to try and move them more to the right. Then suddenly he found support for him was gaining momentum to the point where he became the last man standing. His ego is such that he wasn't going to stand down and say 'hey guys, I wasn't serious about wanting to become the president', so he's had to roll with it. Just a theory. Realpolitik will mean a lot of the hyperbole he spouted in his campaign will not become manifest, but what remains is his impetuousness which is worrying.

I see some similarities with the UK leave campaign and Trump's campaign too. Using fear mongering over things like immigration, both campaigns tried to pander to the fears of white working class people, the demographic that ultimately decided the outcome in both cases. That Marine Le Pen was one of the first political leaders was the first to congratulate both campaigns is deeply concerning.

Trump won it on a ticket of him not being a mainstream politician, allowing him to take a more unfettered approach. This kind of capitalising on dis-affection with mainstream politicians seems to be gaining traction in many places. Clinton lost it on being mainstream and there being deep mistrust surrounding her. It was a terrible choice for the electorate and it begs the question of how different it might have been had Bernie Sanders won the Democratic candidacy because he wouldn't have had all the baggage that Clinton has.

I really feel for the Americans who voted against Trump. He's managed to hoodwink working class people into believing he's on their side, much like May has here. How can they have been so stupid as to believe tax breaks for the rich and trickle down economics is in their interests? I'm concerned on a global scale now too. He has no time for accepting or wanting to deal with environmental problems and just doesn't have the measured temperament that a president must have. Worrying times.

I've still got space in the bunker mate. We'll watch Partridge and drink to the end times.

This.

In Germany we remember today the 78th anniversary of the horrifying "Reichskristallnacht". Just a coincidence that this lunatic was elected on this day.

Could be another "ice age" between our two countries, maybe even worse than those under the idiot G.W Bush?

On most subjects Bush was moderate in comparison to Trump, especially when Pence is brought into the equation.
