sure I'm about to get abuse for this, however...

I play for a rugby team who are up for winning some money from the national lottery to grow our reach. The club is predominantly targeted at gay/bi men but is 'inclusive'...of all abilities (thankfully in my case) and sexualities.

It's not just about providing a place to play football and generally be yourself but the club has helped so many people with self-confidence, body-confidence etc. and engaged many people in physical activity that otherwise wouldn't have.

If you could take a few seconds and comment #NLASpartans in the national lottery post below I'd really appreciate it!

Union, cue more abuse for being a northerner playing union
Not fussed what you play fella, your life isn't it?

I was gonna make a tongue in cheek comment but avoided it as some folk are oversensitive.

Good luck with it all.

I actually used to always wear pink when I played in net and away at Royston a lad asked if I was gay, then when I said no, asked if I was Polish 'as they love that sort of stuff' and then when again I said no he walked off into his own half shouting 'well he's not gay and he's not polish so I don't know what the fuck is wrong with him'

Anyway, I found another tweet that looked like it was from your club and retweeted that so hope that counts?

I don't mind either code but Union can be won purely on who has the best kicker, League is faster and less touchy feely.
Fair comment, but for me, League annoys me with its (pretty much) uncontested scrums, and the whole 6 phases with the ball before the opposition gets it. If the ball is won in a tackle, it should be won, not stand up and carry on for a few more phases then lump it up the field on the last one. Honestly, those two are the biggest things that annoy me about League, it's alright to watch, but I much prefer Union. Different strokes for different folks as ever, mind you.

Obviously, coming from the west country, we're all union down here and I played to a reasonable level for years. While I preferred playing union, the school I attended were national schools champions for many years and we used to play League in training. It was bloody hard but we learnt not to mis tackles!
While, League is probably a better viewing sport and kicks in union are too heavily weighted points wise, the pure theatre of something like the recent Lions tour would take some beating!
I'm just gutted I'm too bloody old to play any more. :(

There is only one sport at this end of the country. The Union game is in the Celtic blood. If there was any doubt that I would fit in when I moved here, that went away very quickly the first time I saw a Cornish Pirates vs Plymouth match at the Mennaye. As a Plymouth player tried to kill the ball at the breakdown I shouted out (without even thinking about it) "Ruck that bloody Englishman off the ball, Pirates." That seemed to go down rather well with the Kernows...!!

I come from a Union background anyway as my dad used to play Back Row for Blackheath back in the amateur days. I grew up watching rugby at the Rectory Field. I played women's rugby at university (Centre or Wing) and can hold my own at the bar of any rugby club anywhere.

I don't knock League because I respect the level of strength, fitness and stamina required to play it, but personally, I find it repetitive and one dimensional. That's just my opinion.

Blade...... I say "Well done, you" in your endeavour to spread sport in the LGBT community. You'll certainly get no "onslaught" from me.

Been down here for the thick end of 40 years, but I still prefer League to Union. That said, I have watched Camborne on a few occasions, and I usually go to at least one away game a season (@Brixham last season). It is more of a social thing though.

Btw Camborne>Choppers>Pirates :fish:

Gotta do the social, Gilly. There's no rugby - league or union - without the social..!!

We sometimes go to watch Penzance & Newlyn since we moved here. Before that we lived in Falmouth and used to watch them at the Dracaena Rec. Good curries..!! We've seen games at Penryn too. Nice bar at Penryn. Good craic on 6N weekends..!!

Damn.... I love rugby in Cornwall.

I have been to Truro, St Austell, Redruth and Wadebridge, with Truro having the best bar.

Across the border, I have been to Ivybridge,WSM, Brixham and Paignton, which wins by a mile.

I am disappointed to learn so many of you like rugby. Especially union, must have missed the boat on what is exciting about scrums collasping and 90% of scoring being from kicks.

You do realise that is the case in football too, right?

No need to be disappointed for us, bunny. We don't mind watching scrums and line outs and rucks and mauls. We rather like them actually. We like tries and penalties and occasionally, a drop goal or two. Like this one.........

It's a kick at goal I never get tired of watching.

Of course, we love our football too. Two sports, both with their own attributes to enjoy. Watch each game on its merits and see the good in both.

And get this..... England are the only country to have won both Rugby World Cup and FIFA World Cup. Don't you think that makes us a pretty special sporting country..??
