The point is, not everyone has been offered a vaccine yet and we don't know how long it will be before they have.

I haven’t, until I’ve had one I’ll be patient and try and make sure I keep doing my best not to infect or kill anyone. If that means I have to wait a bit longer to be allowed in crowded places, so be it. Places you can social distance like pub gardens are fine.

But how do you know if someone’s had one without a passport?
How do you know anything about anybodies health if you do not have access to their medical records.

Not asking for peoples medical record. Just whether they’ve had their shots. If they have they can go in, if not they can’t (unless medically exempt).

The more people vaccinated the more you break the chain. If there is no good reason not to get it, you have no excuse not to have it.

The big proble is going to be that clubs do not just rely on ‘gate money’ especially lower down.

they usually need good pub bar intake, food being bought etc etc. You have people who use toilets all through game.

the sport always requires a lot of mixing together, queues, going to different parts of the ground.

some clubs require a lot of their income from the away supports than home.....smaller clubs.

if you restore it back to the limited number spaced out stuff it won’t work financially or simply practically.

would we need a time slot to visit the toilet, go to the bar in sessions.

football has to just go back to its normal state but for that short term it may well need passports

Well if you really wanted to, everyone who gets a jab is given a card with their details, dates and vaccine type.

Isn’t that basically what this is?

Just pointing out it already exists. But like already said, that wasn’t the point. Until vaccines are open to everyone the suggestion of passports would create a two tier system in society.

Even some tory MPs are worried about using it. That says a lot.

Nah, if you have a negative test you're allowed in too - nobody will be restricted from attending a match.

Agree about the negative tests. That would work alongside the passports. But you’d need everyone without passports to be tested on the way in, inc people exempt from the vaccine.

Anyone that tests positive gets sent straight into isolation. We need to eliminate, not mitigate. Like Australia have done.

The testing wouldn't be done on the way in - too difficult and time-consuming. There's no official guidance on how long a negative test is good for (that I know of), but certain NHS depts and teachers usually test twice or three times a week, so it'll probably be that you'll have to prove a negative test within the past 3 or 4 days.

I'm pretty sure the plan is to just be able to show your result on the MyGP app on your way into the ground. Old people without phones presumably get given a bit of card.

All this is gleaned from various articles and someone I know involved in vaccine trials, so might not be 100% yet (government hasn't even confirmed they will definitely do it!), but that's the rough thinking of how it'll work.

I am amused by the fact that after years of being accused of wanting to turn the country into another Soviet Union due to my political views i am now defending against a system that Stalin would have loved.

I posted on our forum earlier that I don’t think we’ll need them for next season. By the time we come to August, every adult will have been offered one shot of the vaccine and take up has been extremely high so far - we’ll have herd immunity and therefore we should have faith to return to normal.

Yes kids might get it but since transmission rates are lower between them, they don’t suffer from it and society as a whole won’t be able to continue the chain then any covid won’t spread as it has before.

Got to have faith in a vaccinated population or it’s rather pointless having a vaccine in the first place.

You’re forgetting about variants and/or the need for booster jabs.

If that’s your approach then we’re stuffed anyway - you’d need to roll out a further 53m doses in the autumn again to permit people to go, just not going to happen overnight. Then the next variant comes along and that one’s out of date and you’re back to square one again.

The general belief/principal of the current vaccine is that it weakens the effect of any variants even if it doesn’t beat them completely. You have to get society back to normal then roll boosters out as they become available but you don’t shut down society while you wait for 53m doses to be offered.

they were only talking about boosters for the over 70's - so if they stick with that it shouldn't affect most people

I stand corrected but that’s still 13m people. So is the idea to exclude those over 70s from football matches until they’ve had their boosters even though the rest of the population won’t be getting it and therefore will be more at risk of transmitting it? How will that work with vaccine passports?

It’s the travelling they are worried about and people mixing but then will International travel be stopped and we will have inside places open well before next season starts.

I notice there are plans to have 22k at Wembley for England games so there must be the confidence it’s ok for that many to go to a match in June.

Guess it will be more local people ?

Hasn't the talk of boosters been along the lines of offering a COVID booster to the groups who have an annual flu shot, ie: those considered most vulnerable. I had a flu jab for the first time last autumn as they offered it to my age group, despite not being considered vulnerable in any respect. I took it more as a precaution, to reduce my chances of ending up in hospital and putting pressure on a creaking NHS, than anything else.

I am conflicted on the need for vaccine passports, the libertarian in me says no way, but the logical part of my brain says that anything we can do to stop the spread of the disease has to be worth a go. I have friends and family members who fall into the clinically vulnerable categories for whom catching COVID could be incredibly serious and not result in a positive outcome, I will do anything I can to protect them even if it makes my own life a little less tolerable.

I think it is likely that we will have to produce a vaccine certificate, call it a passport if you wish, and a negative test result before travelling on an international flight and I kind of get that. I want to start travelling again, it is something I am really missing from my life, but I want to know it is safe before I do travel again. I just hope that the same conditions apply to anyone who wants to travel into the UK and that they are enforced. We seem to have driven down the rates of infection, and death rates. These are hard earned gains, I don't wish to see us squander them just as life may start to return to normal for our population.

I don’t agree with FGR that the vaccine should be mandatory, it’s still in human trial phase until 2023, it would be totalitarian to force it on people although as said personally I’ve had it would encourage people to have it but can’t force it.

As I understand it you will need a booster, the new jabs in the autumn are meant to have insurance against variants although the Pfizer is meant to work against the SA one as it stands, but generally as they mutate viruses weaken over time, pandemics in history naturally end due to this factor.

International travel is a funny one, last summer I went Greece twice, no vaccine, no tests (although got randomly tested in Greece one of the times on arrival) but this year it’s going to be going through hoops in terms of 2 or 3 tests despite the vaccine and better treatments so have to see. I felt a lot safer in Greece mind!

I expect regardless in the summer like last year cases will be very very low, they were across Europe mostly last year and with the vaccine so the Euros should be fine, it’s the autumn to winter when the test of the vaccine will be. Nice to see the U.K. doing so well after the complete mess last spring, here’s to hoping we can be in the stands next season.
