Ouch. Good win for Crewe. Some good loan signings should see them safe after this recent upturn in form.

Once again we've failed to show up in Crewes cup final. Way too negative again but got to take 1 or 2 of the chances we've created.
Once Crewe got the goal It killed the game and then they used Stevenage type tactics to see it out. Fair play to them it's their big game and we need to match their desire in this fixture going forward if they stay up.

It's not about that really, it's just the general inconsistency of this Vale team. Still a step up from where we would have been heading under Adams.

Credit where it's due to Crewe though. Finally the curse of neither team doing the league double has been broken, not quite the way would have liked mind. Think they should survive, Davis has shown in the last couple of years a bit of a knack for playing the loan market well.

It's why I've said we won't make the play offs. Off all the games at home Page has overseen (Yeovil aside) it's the two poorest sides we've faced of the 8 or 9 we've faced (Crewe and Coventry) and you can't afford to lose those. Defence let us down again and when you're playing 1 up top at home to the bottom sides in the division it's hardly inspiring.

Special mention to the attendance as well for our cup final, 8000+, certainly wasn't our tinpot following.

God, you sound like a little kid, embarrassing. Just because we lost doesn't meant it was Crewe's cup final or they played dog shit,

Who ever thought we'd get in the play offs then you must be delusional. Play off chasing teams simply aren't full of average players. I've said it from day one, I don't rate Page. They had 5 at the back and 3 centre halves and we had Williamson upfront on his own...doesn't take a rocket scientist to know that they'd have the easiest game of their season. No movement what so ever in this team and our attacking players sinply just stand infront of their defence. Well done Crewe, did a job on us.

Might I add, when walking out of the away end it was lovely to be greeted by a big bunch of Vale fans circling us and singing to congratulate us. Thank you. 6 points.

Yet again Vales biggest home crowd and its OUR cup final???

Great 3 points, this team certainly shouldn't get relegated now. Got a chance if finishing above Vale if you ask me.

Thanks mate, I only joke with regards to whatever other Vale fans say. Had a good chat with some on the bus to Castle.

Was a poor standard game but lately we've tended to turn up more than you have in these games. I'm sure Vale are better than what they've shown today as their home form suggests and their league standing but once again we've done the job the right over you.

That's the first league double between the sides isn't it?

No ones ever suggested we would make the play offs, simply that had we won we'd have got into the top 6.

I've said all along with our defence we wouldn't sustain it, we've been decent and although should have got a goal or two today, especially the Popes sitter at the end the forms been decent. I expect us to end up 12-15th which after the start and with our weak back line would be a decent season.

Five more wins for safety and imagine we will get them comfortably and look to sort the defence out in the summer.

I said fair play to Crewe, they got the goal and played a very physical and gamesmanship type performance which worked well and got them the result. The football purity the Crewe fans tugged over is long gone but the reality was they've finally realised it doesn't get you very far and Davis has sorted it.

Probably is! You always seem to want it more than us and Davis always seems to get your tactics right.

Get in there, great result. Felt we were the better team in the first half and deserved our lead. We got deeper and deeper in the second half and Vale blew a few great chances, but we held on for I felt was a deserved win.

Ajose is a terrible finisher, but he has the smarts to keep getting in good positions so i'll let him off for that shocking penalty.

Vale moved the ball around well and probably should have scored from one of the chances they got in the second half, but we held pretty firm, which was pleasing. First league double, love it.

Crewe always seem to be up for it more than us. Probably because we are their biggest derby match.

Exactly what I got slaughtered for saying earlier. The last three meetings we have not turned up and they've played above their position, Davis talks it up far more than Adams/Page and we haven't looked up for it. I'd Crewe do stay up next season we need to match their desire simple. Today wasn't as embarrassing as we were worth a point and missed some good chances but the previous two meetings were a disgrace.

Ben Garratt, though. Let's appreciate greatness.

Best player on the pitch today.

Can see why he's interesting a few big clubs. When you first see him he looks a bit lightweight, then he comes flying through a crowded penalty area and clings onto the ball. Goalkeepers dont peak until mid to late twenties anyway so if he keeps progressing like he is he'll be class in a few years and strength and build will come as he gets older.

Chris Neal was probably our best player as well today, 2 good goalkeepers on show.

See, I'm not saying Neal isn't a great keeper for this level, but I'm not sure what he did today to earn MOTM. The penalty save was pretty easy once he guessed the right way and I can't remember him having any other really difficult saves to make. I'd have given it to Dickinson, thought he really stepped up in the second half and shut down a number of promising counter attacks by us. When did he discover pace, always had him pegged as a sloth? Must have been thinking of someone else.

Veseli was the best player on the pitch for usband Daniel did well when he came on. Neal did well to save the penalty but had he not hesitated when he started to come for the long punt forward he wouldn't have given it away in the first place!

Our average wage is £900 p/w , Port Vale closer to £2k p/w. Maybe smurf and all his billions of £££ should invest better, because I couldn't see a difference today. To think how rubbish we have been most the season to be 8 points from playoffs prooves the lack in quality in league one this season.

I'd imagine Sheffield Uniteds dwarfs our wage budget but we beat them so it means little in one off league meetings. We are still a work in progress with Smurfs investments and trying to change our approach to signings. (I.e. Youngsters released from Prem/European clubs.

Why wasn't Neal even carded for his challenge on Ajose for the penalty?

Anyway as for the game, another deserved win. The last couple of minutes were nervy as Vale lumped the ball into the box, but I don't think it worried out defense too much. Great three points, onto the next.

Crewe are gonna stay up if they keep picking up wins like this, has Ajose and other loan players been that much of a difference?

Simply put, yes. The loan players are our best [outfield] players. Uche and Ajose are up there with the best strike partnerships in this league imo, Tate has given the defence that reliable old head we've been desperate for since Artell left, Leigh has blossomed after a slow start and Ness, having had a first month or so where I'd have put him on the first bus back to Stoke, has been absolutely outstanding in midfield.

I still think we'll continue to struggle and not coast to mid table as I've heard a couple of people suggest. We've far too much to do to get completely out of it before April/May imo and we will keep making life difficult by fucking up at the wrong time.
