Maybe not manager of the year, but Tim Sherwood deserves a bit of recognition for turning Villa round, especially If he wins the FA Cup and keeps Villa up.

Its Tim Sherwood we are talking about, he wants recognition every single game.

Macclesfield Town/Manchester City. It's complicated.
That's veering worryingly close to the Spear 'Presser' obsession.

Definitely not manager of the year but he's fulfilled his objective from August which was to get United back in the top 4, next season the bar will be raised.

I love Van Gaal, but he's not my manager of the year. For me it's Ronald Koeman. He lost half his first team before he even got there, having to rebuild a squad which only just got promoted a couple of seasons ago, Southampton were tipped for joining the relegation battle, and they challenged for European slots half the season. Pretty sure they still have the best defensive record in the league, if not they held that for 90% of the season.

Mourinho, yea he did really well and Chelsea won the league, but when you have the best team in the league that's sort of expected. There's arguments for Pardew, Sherwood, Pulis and Pearson for how they've pulled their teams out of the relegation fight, but personally I don't think you can get manager of the year for getting your team to perform well for just a few months. Closest to Koeman I would say is Garry Monk, the only reason I put him below Koeman is because Monk has had pretty much all his team set out since he took over last season, other than losing Bony there's been no real roadbumps for Swansea in the last year so they are a team I expected to finish around the upper mid-table. It's certainly not a case like Laudrup where he took a team who had only just been promoted, picked up a few players on a shoestring budget and managed to win the League Cup and get into Europe.

Proper funny bloke when he's had a few, aint he? Should take a leaf from Fergies book and knock a few back on match day imo, might brighten his ppst match interviews up a bit.

Looks like the party carried on afterwards and things got messy...

This post is filled with inaccuracies.

We spent around 160 million not 200 million, a fairly significant difference.

In what world was Herrera a Moyes signing?

Blind has been more than worth the price paid.

Rojo as not failed in any way. Was first choice until injury allowed Smalling/Jones to strike up a partnership and will continue to be an excellent squad player going forward.

Judging your posts on us and any team except Arsenal I'd say you need to watch some games other than your beloved.

Blind has been excellent and given the prices in the current market, his versatility and his age we definitely got him for a good price.

Are we seriously comparing LVG and Wenger solely on money spent? Arsenal had perfect stability going into the season coming off an FA cup win, having the same manager they'd had since the dawn of time and added a few players to the squad one who is absolutely world class without losing much. Van Gaal on the other hand was inheriting a team at rock bottom, recovering from our greatest manager ever being replaced by a clown, had a huge turnover in personnel and was attempting to completely overhaul the system bringing about a complicated style of play that requires lots of time to get right.

I don't think Van Gaal is the manager of the year but if we finish only a point behind Arsenal it will be because either LVG over achieved or Wenger under achieved.

You have no idea what its like to have a team at rock bottom do you?

It's like when we were supposed to feel sorry for Arsenal fans for their eight while years without a trophy.

The fucking humanity.

What Wenger achieved with Chamakh and Bendtner, LvG achieved after spending £150 million. Anyone remember which one was criticized more?

It's all relative.

But if you want to do tedious point scoring based on what club we support I used to spend a good amount of saturdays watching my local club fail to get out of the Unibond premier division.

You Derby fans have no idea what rock bottom is.

Is it just me that thinks LvG is a tosser? Disrespecting players. Calling out Valdes like that, just let him leave, there's no need. He just lacks any kind of class.

He's got a justified arrogance and he takes no bullshit from anyone regardless of whether they are a big name or not.

It's great.

I've seen United fans react badly to his actions, "washing our laundry in public". Hasn't gone down well with everyone.

He just seems like a dinosaur, maybe spending big will buy the quality of players it takes to win something so he can get his reputation back?

Who are you quoting there, by the way? I've not seen any comments like that.

I'm not sure he has to get his reputation "back" either, he's still a highly respected manager with an excellent record. If anything it's United that have to get their reputation back after a season or two of relative mediocrity.

So far we've signed well, none of the fees have been excessive though. Darmian, Schweinsteiger, Schneiderlin and Depay all address problem areas for United and I'd say we didn't overpay for any of them. By the end of the window though I think we will have spunked a giant amount of money on someone like we did on Di Maria last season.

I'm actually pleased to see a manager come out and say it how it is without hiding behind the PR spin.

Would you be pleased if you have a private disagreement with your boss and he went out and made it the public's business-hung you out to dry? We've only heard LVG's side of the story and now it is the public's perception.

Given the nature of the job, nothing to stop Valdes giving an interview, how many times have we seen/read stuff like that down the years? Not exactly a one-off case.
