We have an issue going up against three at the back, provided Watford play the 3-5-2 they have been playing for much of the season.
Their three at the back covers our front three, while being able to man mark our central midfield completely. Which forces us to push up our full backs, and leave a 2v2 at the back in transition. With Henderson as a nr 6 it's less of a problem as he covers enough ground to keep 3v3 in the middle, and 3v2 at the back. Unfortunately we don't have such a replacement. Milner, perhaps, but he as other duties. And a 2v2 will always be more dangerous than the 3v3 we can create on the other end of the pitch. So with that in mind Matip and Lovren can't put a foot wrong or Watford will get a very good opportunity to punish us.
An alternative is not pushing up our full backs, creating a 4v2 at the back and a 3v5 at the front, which is asking for a 0-0 draw.
So we have to be at our best, especially defensively. I don't think we'll keep a clean sheet though, Klopp will always prefer the 4-3 over the 1-0.
Good first half from Watford, their man-cum-zonal marking is working perfectly with the formations matching each other so perfectly. Haven't played three at the back in a while but it was a good choice from Mazzari. It would have worked even better if Lucas wasn't playing out of his skin positionally, never allowing a 2v2 at the back but still getting involved as shown by his assist. The less said about the dive the better, as embarrassing as Rashford's yesterday.
Our goal changed the match obviously and now Mazzari will have to tweak a bit as Lucas won't have to get forward at all if that low block of five moves a bit further up the pitch.
Not at our best but toughed it out after the spanner getting threw in the works after Coutinho's injury. Can's goal was a stunner. All about the points now and job done.
Massive results this weekend with both City and United slipping up coupled with the tight win for us tonight. Now back in our hands, win our 3 remaining games and it doesn't matter what United does. 7 points from our remaining 3 games will get us CL I reckon.
Hope Coutinho isn't serious. Such a fucker, get Lallana back and lose someone arguably even more important.
Annoyed with Sturridge at the end, piss easy pass for a one on one and the greedy cnut was so desperate to score he didn't do it.
Dogshit game, but Can's goal a contender for goal of the season. With United having to play away to Arsenal and Spurs the win takes the pressure off a bit, but Liverpool need to remain focused, not think about that and pick up maximum points from their remaining fixtures.
I think we need just 4 points from our remaining games to be honest, which is a nice thought.
That would put us on 73 points, meaning United will need at least 8 from 12 depending on goal difference. And with the fixtures they have left, that is a huge ask with Europa league in between. Arsenal would need at least 13 from 15 depending on goal difference and that just won't happen.
But then again, third is so much better than fourth. And to be honest, the shambles City have been at times this season should see us finish above them. They won't win all of their remaining games but we very well might.
