Business administration companies are essentially money printers. They'll ensure they get their cut first. The fit and proper owners test is clearly a joke. Who looked into this guy's finances to see if he could afford it? Sad for the club but ultimately who is going to want to pay an astronomical amount for a club that doesn't own its own ground? Unfortunately, a savvy businessman will probably wait until all creditors have been settled and then get the club on the cheap. By which time they may have gone bump.

They've still got the fan base, so someone with money will take them on. Even if they had to start from scratch, they'll power up through the leagues in no time.

From what I understand (and I’m very open to be corrected on any of it and of course I may be incorrect) The outgoing chairman appointed the administrators.

The admin company are owed several millions in fees in the event that a takeover takes place.

The guy who wanted to buy them PASSED the EFL fit and proper owners test.

The admin company gave him exclusivity rights (more than once), the EFL deadlines on when a deal has to be made by have not been met (more than once).

The preferred prospective owner was given a final 24 hours to prove he had the funds and/or just buy the club, which passed at 5pm today without the funds anywhere to be seen.

I don’t know who owns the ground. I don’t know who’s going to fund the club/administrators during the mean time, and I don’t know what the EFL does next.

Mike Ashley is apparently involved now too, so it’ll be something. But I’ve no idea what.

Going on what I saw on SSN last night.

Kirchner hasn't been able to prove the funds to purchase.

A couple of other consortiums are no longer interested as their backers have pulled out - in one case one of the money men has invested in another club.

Mike Ashley remains interested, but the administrators don't want to deal with him because he is disputing their fees, believing them to be astronomically high.

Mel Morris still owns the ground. As I recall, he's a big Derby fan isn't he, so there isn't much likelihood of him selling it from under the club is there?

The issue will always be the ground. Mel Morris owns it. Any new owner will want it.
They are screwed.
Need to start looking at a phoenix club because this is not looking good unless Ashley buys it.
But isn’t the ground only worth something if there’s a team to play there, isn’t it?

The land is prime. Around there is a lot of business - he could sell it for development for good money if he had to. So it’s still worth something.

If Derby do go under, will there be knock-on reprieves right down the leagues? Or would L1 go with 23 teams? (Apologies if this has already been answered.)

Biggest complaints was the dire football under Bruce - shocking to watch but could scrape a result. You're just jumping to the media narrative tbh, Preston's golden era was about the same time Newcastle's was.
Didn't know Ashley sorted the tactics too.

What media narrative? You're just whingey twats.

I hate Bruce shitted on us to join the Jawdees but he had no chance with the fans after Benitez had he.

He was a lifelong Jawdee mind.

A life-long Geordie who'd managed Sunderland previously. As you said, after messiah Benitez, he really was on a hiding to nothing.

I remember he was booed at the first Pre-season game!

And it didn't get much better.

Bruce was seen as an Ashley man who supported him.

How long does this drag on for before they are liquidated ? The creditors surely are angry they have not had a penny yet. Like HMRC.

Not sure on this one to be honest. I would assume as the fixture list hasn’t come out that Gillingham would get a reprieve in this league and Oldham in L2 (though the owner there brings his own problems). With Bury the situation had dragged on into the season so had to go with 23.

Not really no, but it’s more about fairness. All should be treated the same. Like bury were. No preferential treatment or more and more extensions.

I think as long as someone is paying wages they will prolong it until near the start of the season where Derby will have show they can complete the season. That should be the sticking point because there is no way they can survive a season without new investment.

I don’t want a reprieve, we are where we are on merit (although there is precedent when Macclesfield went bust). I really hope Derby survive.

Doesn't bode well if he succeeds,

Aye at this point even if this guy does somehow get the money cleared its only a matter of time before Derby are back in this position. Seriously need to just cut him off now and move on.

You don't like theIYou don't like them do youMad
I remember being at their old ground, Eaton Park when we were both at step 5 and the Mad Yank owned us. They were winning 3-0 and singing rapturously ~~ Are you Derby in disguise.

Ironically they are a much better run team than their massive neighbours these days.

We cut our cloth accordingly- as a small club you have no choice. Even in the championship we didn’t go overboard signing people we could not afford. Derby have chased the dream of the premiership and failed. It could happen to so many other clubs in honesty - Bournemouth springs to mind.

I think this is the annoyance from football fans. When your club is competing against others who are essentially cheating by spending money that they don't have then it's not a level playing field. We'd all like our teams to play as high up as possible but it needs to be done fairly.

Hold up, you can't be all pious when your club actively cheated its creditors too..... Hypocritical as fuck.

Our 2012 administration was a bit more complicated than that… unpaid shares. If we’d cheated I certainly didn’t enjoy the “ride” most clubs get!

The fans were mostly the ones mugged as they paid their shares and lost them all!
