Well done chaps. I don't get to watch NL football that often, but people are saying your promotion is a thoroughly deserved one and who am I to disagree?

Your success means you Sutton fans will get to post in this part of the forum and there's loads of good posters in here. Also, while this forum is probably not as busy as the NL one, at least you won't have to put up any more with all the the 'proper' vs 'tinpot' vs 'hobby' club debates any longer. Or the brotherhood and natural order (LOL) crap.

On a personal note, it's a pity I won't get to watch the U's play at your lovely ground next season.

Only because the proper tinpot hobby club are Salford City and they have no fans on here to debate with the rest of us.
Well done Sutton United.

Ours is being dug up and replaced with a £1m hybrid, won’t be ready until September so first couple of home league games will be switched. Looks likely that Newport RFC will be moving out of Dave so pitch should now last the season. Dragons being bought off the WRU by a local consortium which is rumoured to invest in the stadium further - roofs over north and south ends.

Well done Sutton United.

Haha that's all so very true. I wonder if anybody has ever met a proper Salford fan. Proper as in pre the class of 92.

Haha Sutton coming up reminds me of a time one of their fans signed up for our forum and had a username called 'Amber Sutton' or some such after their club colours. A few of our forum weirdos didn't clock on to the colour reference and were asking if 'she' would be coming in the bar when Sutton were at Holker Street, only for the fan to confirm he was indeed a bloke.

The documentary showed there were about 200 members but only about half at most went to games. A lot disappeared because it wasn't what attracted them in the first place. It wouldnt be a surprise if a lot of their crowd now are ex FC United fans who switched to them as they made their way up the leagues. Man United fans who can't afford the real thing but have no affinity for FC United.

At least it's another relatively Southern club in this god forsaken division.

Salford, Barrow, Forest Green, Sutton... It's like we are back in the conference, only it's even shitter than I remember it.

You’re going to love Gander Green Lane....

It’s strange knowing that next season I won’t be supporting a Non-League club. I’ve defined a section of my Football fandom as being the supporter of a Non-League club. No more swapping ends at halftime!

It’s not sunk in. We weren’t supposed to be challenging for the National League, but it’s a new adventure. And we don’t have to play in the FA Cup qualifying rounds

Welcome Sutton, hope you’ll enjoy the EFL.

Decent away day as well, some good pubs always enjoyed our trips there, Gander Green Lane is a proper traditional non league ground.

Congrats, Sutton. Enjoy not having to qualify for the FA Cup.

Has the new guy built on Doswell's work so done his own thing?

Has the new guy built on Doswell's work so done his own thing?

Matt has said himself that he’s built on the foundations that Doswell left. After all Doswell turned us into a joke that had just been relegated from the Conference South to the Isthmian Premier in 2008 (we finished the 07/08 season with 24 points) barely watched by 400 idiots like myself into a team that could compete in the National League watched by a lot more people. And he brought Matt Gray to the club.

Matt has forged his own way since he took over but we were in the position to do so because of Doswell (and it was nice that he got to be there yesterday. He’s been to a few games home and away when circumstances have allowed since becoming Havant manager).

That's fair enough, I wasn't sure whether Doswell was holding you back from taking that final jump.

The London Borough of Sutton has a population of a little over 200,000 plus in theory we can reach into Surrey. However being a London Borough we are hemmed in some Premier League clubs, Chelsea historically draw a lot of support from the area and Crystal Palace and Fulham are easy to get to.

We’re not a big club, and our gates have jumped massively in the last few years from about 400-500 in 2015 to 1500-2000 just before lockdown. 2000 or so may be a realistic guess for League 2.

Comedian Tim Vine is our most famous fan. His brother Jeremy occasionally joins him at home games.

Local rivals is a tough one as historically our biggest rivals were carshalton athletic and maybe Kingstonian at a push. We haven’t played either club in a decade as they are Isthmian League sides. For the youngsters Bromley are very much disliked. In the last decade we’ve been at the same level for 9 seasons.

Catchment area - South London. A fair few Womble/Sutton 2CWs.

Crowd? Dunno, not been to GGL for 3 or 4 years.

Famous fans - Tim Vine.

Local rivals - Carshalton Athletic, always, although there's a massive gap now. I guess us as well now although we've never played in the same league. The difference is that ours would be a friendly rivalry.

I live in KT1 so it's basically a home game for me, not that I've ever been to the ground.

Welcome Sutton United.

For a club just up the road from us we have hardly ever played each other (Isthmian v Southern league). Off the top of my head the only things we have in common are John Mackie, Louis John and Matt Gray (assistant here under Dermot Drummy). Hopefully we can get a FRIENDLY rivalry going.

This division is mostly Northern folk and the travelling can be horrendous not least going back to Barrow (good posters here but miles upon miles away)

I suppose we will have to call it the A214 derby or something equally stupid but I hope to see lots of you and lots of us (fat chance) at our respective grounds next season.

Other than a few friendlies and an FA Cup game in 1995 (which we won 4-1, early bragging rights!) I can’t recall ever playing Crawley. I’m looking forward to a friendly rivalry, we’re a pretty friendly bunch for the most part.
Didn’t we pinch Ted Shepherd and Larry Pritchard off of you in the 90s (not long before the aforementioned cup match) as managers?
