Non League side Wembley FC face going bust due to a long running legal battle against the FA over the usage of "Wembley"

http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/42442290

Should the big boys let this go or do they have a right to protect their brand?

More bullshit from the top. Wembley FC have been Wembley FC since they were formed in 1949... why is the name an issue only now in 2017?

Reminds me of when Tottenham Hotspur took shots at Fleet Spurs for the similar cockerel on their crest a few years ago.

Wankers at the FA showing once again they don't understand football. Also, you can't trademark a place, so I hope it does go to court and Wembley FC wipe the floor with them.

if you read up on the construction of the new stadium everyone sued one another, the fa sued the construction company who in turn sued the architects, who sued the concreaters who counter sued the others . it got so bad that work stopped on the stadium due to the steel providers ' cleveland something or other' walking off the job due to the fact, yes youve guessed it, they were getting sued by one of the other parties .

the whole thing has been a farce

just on this wembley fc might be able to use the defence that they used the title first as wembley was called the empire stadium it all depends what year it changed name.... this could end up with the fa having to change the name of their stadium lol

Does it really matter anyway? - sure the FA have got greater issues to deal with within the game or maybe its a smokescreen to hide those more serious problems.

Curzon Ashton....and Carlisle
it will be solely down to something money related than being bothered about the fact someone may go to wrong place. Either marketing wise they need full rights to make a tonne of money or else down to something based on tottenham and maybe Chelsea playing there.

of course if the FA had something like a PR department they could have worked an agreement on Wembley Fc changing its logo but the FA paying costs for them to do so in order to put no financial cost on them......but well that is too much common sense in this greed orientated game.

How utterly ridiculous. The FA have once again showed how totally out of touch they are with the game.

I cannot for the life of me see how a club that plays in front of 50 people in average home games could possibly be any sort of threat to the vast, monolithic edifice which is the Football Association.

And hey.... what if somebody DID confuse Wembley FC with Wembley Stadium..? So what..? I reckon that anybody in any football crowd who admitted to making such a gaffe would get such a damned-good mickey-taking from his mates he'd be left a red-faced, older, wiser man for the experience.

The FA should have just shrugged this off. They are, after all, supposed to have a certain moral responsibility to every club under registration to administer the game with a bit of understanding. The club was founded in 1946 and has always been called "Wembley FC" so it isn't a recent re-branding that has brought about the conflict.

And if the FA tried to argue that their badge resembles that of the FA Premier League, Wembley FC could respond by saying that the lion on the badge is a replica of the coat of arms for the old Borough of Wembley and they have been using it since their foundation.

Perhaps Wembley FC should sue the FA for copying THEIR emblem..?

Wembley FC simply won't have the financial resource to mount any kind of legal challenge.

I think that that is the general point - they are being forced out of business by big bullies.

Playing devil's advocate, couldn't Wembley FC just comply and redesign a badge they have only been using since 2012? Maybe make the FC as prominent as the name Wembley? If it really means the difference between survival and extinction, I don't see the issue beyond "it's the principle of the thing" which usually means it's nothing of the kind. At least they now have lots of free publicity and faux outrage as the plucky underdog, which is maybe the real point.

Some other examples of football club names causing confusion; I once read a Cambridge City programme where they said they had a steady stream of away fans looking for Cambridge United. I'm sure Gillingham (Kent) have played friendlies against Gillingham Town (Dorset). And the local paper did a recent article about people looking for Maidenhead turning up in Maidstone.

It's not the name of the club that the FA has a problem with, it's just the badge. The club won't have to drop 'Wembley' from its name as the petition says, it will just have to re-design its logo so that it's a bit clearer that it is actually a football club (all they have to do is make the 'FC' bit as big as the other lettering)

Having said that I think the FA should realise that it's all an unnecessary cost for the football club and if they want the club to rebrand itself then they should just fund it themselves.

Shithawks. Neither the FA, nor the EFL are remotely fit for purpose.
